As a Vietnamese who live in Vietnam, let me speak right here: 1: that is the wrong type of noodle that they are using there to make pho Pho noodles are wider and thinner in size,the type of rice noodle they are using make the dish call "bún" 2:side veggies are HUGE Vietnam restaurant often give u tons of different varieties of veggies even if you don't ask them not like just basil and onion and bean sprouts 3:as i look at the soup,it looks better than Vietnamese pho Vietnamese pho have lighter soup and you need to put a lot of nuoc mam and stuff 4:there is not such thing call "how you eat pho probably" because different places,people eat it different.some may find the soup is the tastiest,some find the meat the tastiest(like me) so yea,eat how you feel the most comfortable :) p/s: sry for my bad English

he DID say it was his own opinion. He never in the video told people that the way he ate it was the only way. He CLEARLY stated that it's his own opinion and in nowhere in his video does he tell Vietnamese or any type of Asian person how to eat pho. Can you actually go and watch the video before you speak about something that you don't know what the fuck you're talking about ? it's actually kinda sad and people like you who are misinformed and call everything racist without actually looking at the facts and proof make us ACTUAL people who ACTUAL care about ACTUAL social injustice and FACTUAL racist look like a bunch of misinformed little dumb "millenials"
@HelloMyNamelsBanana8 жыл бұрын
"It's a little disrespectful to tell people how to eat pho" he NEVER told ANYONE 'how to eat pho'. He told people how HE eats pho. And tell me, how the fuck is it disrespectful to Vietnamese to state his OPINION on how he eats pho? "But he should of said this was my opinion" HE SAID MULTIPLE TIMES "THIS IS THE WAY 'I'" in the video which you would've KNOWN if you ACTUALLY WATCHED IT. It's should have* not should of by the way.

@nhatduycao7017 жыл бұрын
Actually different regions of the country use the different type of noodles. An Giang, if not the entire Southern Vietnam use the thinner/wider one. In my place, they call the thicker one "Hủ tiếu tươi". Anyway, in other language, they can't distinguish the different types of noodles, they just "rice noodles" for everything, bún gạo - rice noodles, bún ta - rice noodles, hủ tiếu - rice noodles, phở - rice noodles.

@nhouayang25977 жыл бұрын
ChaozDealer I can agree to a certain point with you but then again, would you have taco bell inform you on how to eat authentic tacos? and even if it was an old Vietnamese grandma who grew up cooking this dish her whole life in Vietnam and if her words were his and edited like so, people would still disagree. Because Pho has its standard ingredients, but what's great about it is the options of ingredients you can add to the bowl. My Pho, will never taste like another person's pho. it's preference

He did not say "this is how you're supposed to eat Pho" in the video. He said that's how he personally eats it and stated his personal opinion and preferences when it comes to eating it. And when he says that Pho is on the rise and becoming the "new ramen" he meant that in a popularity sense. Not that ramen is dying out or that they can't live together in the same world. He didn't say it was similar or the same thing. This is only making him look worse.

Had my first Pho prepared by our Vietnamese friend. 1. Controversy: not as big of a deal as some make it. 2. How I like it: A. Taste the broth when it's served (you want more fish sauce? More salt? more spice?) I think this is respectful to the cook. B. It's fun to have side items to try different ways. Pickled onions, chilli paste, plum sauce! C. Bean sprouts are essential for texture and depth. D. Try pouring broth on beef slices or dip immediately before eating so the cooked juices mix with broth and noodles YUM. Slurp to get aroma and flavor. And if we only ate one small bowl we were laughed at.

don't forgot even though Asians like to stereotype/do racists jokes it's all in good fun/not taken seriously but these days and this decade (not sayings it's just the millenials) everyone gets offended by the littlest things. Sure if I ever met that dude I would tell him "you're fucking white, stfu and just eat the way you like and we'll eat the way we like sounds fair? The only off3nse I would have to this is that he's arrogant enough to think he knows how to eat pho and somehow represents all noodle culture. But then again a lot of chefs are like that.
@HelloMyNamelsBanana8 жыл бұрын
Anon Anon no but seriously what are you talking about? He CLEARLY states in his video that all of the ways that he explains pho is HIS opinion and HIS way of eating it. He did not say "this is the only way you should eat it" so there was no probelm to start with. The only problem was with the editing. There are things to be offended by and things to know to not be offended by. Its GOOD to be offended by things that are racist or exploiting of other cultures but the video that he made was neither.

What i like about pho is the light and refreshing broth, its like dish in indonesia called soto, also the raw beef is so tender.. I usually just put the lime and chili then mix it in my pho.. i like ramen better cause of the noodle is tastier and the broth is richer.. Overall i like all types of noodles; soba, udon, ramen, pho, bihun, mie ayam bakso, kwetiau

I'm a white guy who cooks his own pho chay (because I don't know any restaurants in Philly that serve it) and I like to add tons of seasoning to the broth, one slice of lime, hoisin and sriracha on the side. Never tried chili oil, fish sauce (yes, there is vegan fish sauce), chili paste, or onions but I'd be more than willing to try. Love adding Asian basil and culantro. I also throw in a bit of Chinese 5 spice into the broth for more of the cinnamon and star anise flavor. I got my recipe from Helen Le so I feel like it's pretty accurate, but I like to add more spices than she does. :)

Can you properly use chopsticks? If you were to use them properly and then twirl your chopsticks, that would be pretty difficult. I don't get what's so racist about it.

Erm...did she just pronounce PHO CHAY as "PHO GHAY" at 5:26??? Come on now, if you go all the way to spell the words out on screen, at least make sure your pronunciation is close enough...being Vietnamese and all that, and trying to teach people how to eat pho. Even the Fung bros pronounced it better.

Eating at Viet Hoa in Houston was my first time eating Pho.That was 25 years ago.Since then San Diego Guam Singapore.For me it's still a split between beef and sea food.Love them both.Jalapeno works just fine.Have never tried the little red thai chili.I did find a soup in Sasebo Japan simlar to Pho.They use beef and udon noodle.Very good on cold winter days.

The reaction to the video was the most ridiculous shit. He did nothing to disrespect the culture, and there were Vietnamese people whose families don't own pho restaurants acting like they know more about pho than the guy who runs a pho restaurant. Whiteness was 100% the reason behind the controversy, and it was ridiculous. He shouldn't have to worry about when to clarify that it's how he likes it. He did that, then people started shit because he likes more lime than anybody else.

Grew up eating pho in China town Hawaii, where this particular place was rumored to have crack in their soup lol. Every weekend, we would go and wait in line, a line that would extend out the door, into the block! No A.C.. Sweating balls, and still everyone would stand in line to suffer. I was a tiny girl then, yet always ordering a large pho with extra tendon and extra jalapeños lol. This vid was fun. Love my pho. Most favorite food ever. 😁

isn't the pho soup made from ox tail. That means pho can't be for vegetarians even if you don't ask for beef in the soup.

holycow343 lol. Good point
@mondovall8 жыл бұрын
holycow343 i think they make the brooth without the ox-tail bones. it might not really be "pho" but it can fill the taste for vegetarians with a bit of twist. i think
@nhatduycao7017 жыл бұрын
They imitate it, instead of using beef bone,, they use East-Southest Asia mushroom (Nấm rơm, which means hay mushroom) to make the broth, yet they don't taste the same, but very close in my opinion. (The star anise, the cinnamon, the onion, the green onion make the broth different, not only the beef bone itself)
@xyzruler69447 жыл бұрын
Pho chay is vegetarian and they don't use oxtails for that particular broth. Some viets are Buddhists which means most are vegetarians.

I have not watched the dudes video but I have to agree on not adding any souce to the broth. it just tastes great by it self. Personally I do not like spicy, but definitely enjoy the mix of the fresh veggies. taking a bite in between scoops it makes it so refreshing.

I know the difference between ramen and pho. Not all noodle soup are Ramen..."6 hours for some ramen" is Pho not Ramen. You're the one that don't seem to get it. Discern the difference between Ramen and Pho. Oh Ramen is its own dish. Just because other dish is made with noodle with soup, doesn't make it Ramen :)
