My 2019 coupe ext didnt have those spring clip things. Just did brakes too. 56,000 miles no issues. As for the screw holding the rotor on. Largest phillips head , pound it in to break up rust. Use pb blaster and a impact with gun comes right out. Mine all it took was one turn of the cheap walmart impact gun. Came right out.

Just did the rear passaner side. One question, do you have to disengage the parking brake before starting the brake jon? Does it matter? I've disengaged it, I've assumed that would make it easier to remove the brake pads, etc. Does that make sense?
@raczyk Жыл бұрын
For the rear can you push the piston back too far? I used the old brake pad against the piston and pushed it back as far as it will go with a brake caliper compression tool.

How would you suggest getting off the rotor screws that are, VERY stubborn?
@EdgeAutosport10 ай бұрын
If you are referring to the single set screw (on the civic it was a #3 Phillips) Those can be very difficult. If it looks like trouble, step one: soak in PB Blaster (Or similar penetrant) to prepare for breaking free. Step 2: make sure you have a the right screwdriver, a #2 Phillips will strip it. Step 3: if it wont come loose and feels like the head will strip, get a "Manual Impact Wrench" tool. These are extremely useful for stubborn bolts and screws. Basically the impact of the hammer stroke, turns the bolt head, and the down force will stop it from stripping. If none of this works, then your bolt is probably wrecked and its time to drill it out. It can't be stuck if you turn it to dust.

@EdgeAutoSport - I followed this video, and it was helpful (thanks). However, you guys missed an important step on how to reset the parking brake after the maintenance. Also there's a special tool for getting that screw out of the rotor or other tips to break it free. I messed mine up thinking it would be easy, so ended up having to drill the screw out.
@johnbeck41972 жыл бұрын
if it really stuck you can put the screwdriver in the screw and then tap it a couple of times with a mallet. The vibration will help it to break free.
@spider025402 ай бұрын
There is a special tool it's called an impact screwdriver, you can get one at harbor freight for like $15. A special screwdriver you bang the back of it with a hammer and converts that into a twisting motion if that makes sense.

You explain well on installs! I do have a question.... if I go with this rotor or the stop tech ones can I use my current OEM pads? I just got them this week, which is why I ask
@EdgeAutosport3 жыл бұрын
It's typically not advised to mix a used pad with a new rotor. It's probably not the worst thing in the world but usually you want to bed in pads and rotors together. If you asked a brake expert, they might explain more about why you can or can't. It might be worth a further search.
@antonmo66242 жыл бұрын
Question. I'm very interested in purchasing both brakes and rotators from you. However, at this time, it'll be only the brakes. I'm I able to place these brake pads on the stock rotators? I know. Silly question.
@EdgeAutosport2 жыл бұрын
It is best to do them at the same time, as old rotors have grooves from the old pads that will wear the new pads unevenly. But the car will not explode from putting new pads on old rotors, though. You can also get your older rotors machined/turned for less than new rotors, if they still have life in them.

The brake in coating on the pads removes the black coating on the rotors. As for cleaning the rotors, they are not covered in a protective coating. However, it’s a good idea to give them a quick shot of brake clean because the oil and grease from your hands

In my experience ebc stuff is prone to vibration (TV). I had the green stuff and the slotted rotors on my Legend, then i had the yellow stuff on the prelude with black slotted rotors. Same deal on both setups. Vibration on high speed braking eventually (after a lot of miles) reared it's ugly head. The yellow stuff pads were great for street driving though. They handled the heat fairly well from high speed braking and had good bite cold or not. sometimes little bit of squealing when cold in cold weather. Expect dusty wheels. Perhaps ebc have improved their compound now. So far the best pads i've used on the prelude have been Stoptech street pads which are made by Centric. On the 2020 si though i'm running stock so far. As far as grease i never use any on pads on cars and never had noise. Grease is a sand magnet. Sometimes the shims don't fit so don't be alarmed if they don't. On my prelude the yellowstuff shims didn't fit so they went on without it.

Had vibration with Green Stuff in less than 3k miles after install. Turns out, it was a caliper sticking. Had to replace the brake kit again after servicing the caliper and it's been trouble free going over 10k miles now.

@@oramos5353I disconnected the battery for the job. Not sure if this was necessary but I had no issues doing the job without the battery connected. After installation, set the pads by slow and short pump of the brake pedal until you feel hard resistance. After this, start up and you will see codes. This is normal let codes, radio, etc. reset. Then turn off ignition and back on. All should be as they were before the brake job. Test drive and check braking. Then engage e-brake. No codes should come up. Job complete then.
