TECH TALKS
Welcome to EBC Brakes' 'Tech Talks' series, where we look at each of our friction materials in more detail.
Watch as R&D Manager, Steve Payne, talks us through the technical details of our product lines, whilst addressing common myths and queries in the process.
YELLOWSTUFF
This time, it's the turn of EBC's Yellowstuff pad to be put under the spotlight. Yellowstuff (EBC's yellow pad) is a road-legal high-performance road, track day and occasional race friction material that really does do it all - making it no surprise that it's one of EBC's best-sellers.

Got a full set of yellows and slotted rotors on the way for my Colorado. She's been lifted with some meaty Baja boss tires on her and a good bit of engine work done, OEM wont cut it anymore. Can't wait to put them through they're places. All my buddies swear by them.

I like the Yellowstuff because its so agreeable, like you said, works from cold to run to the shops, but also stands up to some track abuse. I'm sure the higher spec compounds will perform better on longer track sessions, but you want to be able to stop properly when you leave home at 6am on a cold morning to get to the track in the first place! I do find that they make a bit more dust than OEM pads, but its a fair trade off.

Had yellowstuff on a Scirocco R and loved them. Bite from cold OE but you can LEAN on the brakes again and again they don't fade but actually get better with heat in them. Zero noise in that car and dust normal. I'll consider them when my OE M2 pads need replacing for sure.

I had noise issues in the beginning with my Yellowstuff, it turned out that the color on the side of the pad, did not always break of properly and would keep grinding against the disk. What I figured out as a workaround, was to reverse and do some hard braking, that would remove the loose color fragments and the noise. After a some more miles the problem disappeared entirely.

Hi Mihaly, it's great to hear that you are enjoying your new braking set-up. You will always get some noise when bedding in as the pads and discs will both have bedding material that will need to be worn off during the bed-in process so that they mate together properly. If you ever have any questions etc. regarding your set up please don't hesitate to get in touch directly at < technical@ebcbrakesuk.com > Have a great day 👍

Just ordered them for front and back on my bmw m235i with my brembo calipers and Zimmermann dimpled and slotted rotors. I chose them over Ferodo DS2500s because of people praising the initial bite which is something I look for in a pad. Had Hawk HPS 5.0 on another car but they seemed the same as stock.

I've used these pads and the slotted/dimpled EBC rotors. Excellent bite for street, no squeal, do hear the sound of the pads against the rotors but only slight and thats with windows down driving in parking lots or low speed. If there's a down side, it's the dust. in my experience they are very dusty. About every three to four days your wheels will look dirty. That said the performance over OEM is much better. Put is this way they are just as dusty as my Hellcat and Mustang with the larger brakes. This particular set was put on my pickup truck. I have a heavy foot and drive in the mountains. Was tired of warping my rotors and wanted a better bite. These did exactly that. I've tried ceramics in the past and although they are quiet and low dust, they never seem as good as the OEM or better. Currently looking at another set for my new truck and tossing the idea around about the Orange Stuff. I cannot tell if the combination of rotors and pads were the success. The Mustang are standard venting and the Challenger are slotted. Both stop very well for street use both have stood up to well over 100 mph speeds with no fade. My dilemma is, do I stick with what worked or choose slotted or try just a smooth rotor this time.

I bought a set of these for my car (2013 BMW 335i xDrive) and I used them agressively over a year of street sport, track days, winter rally events and autocross. the pads perform fantastically. Bite performance is exceptional from -30 deg. C. up to summer track days pushing the car hard. The pads have not faded. occasionally after rain, i will get a bit of noise while the rust on the disk comes off but then no noise. Dust is a bit higher than OEM but expected of a pad with so much bite, modulation and fade resistance.

Just ordered some EBC Yellow stuff pads for my 67 reg F30 LCI 335D X Drive. My car came with the 340mm front rotors on the M Sport package and the standard grey brembo 4 piston calliper on the front. The brakes it has at present are awful and it requires early braking, on spirited drives I have to slow well before any corner as the brakes are not good, especially compared to those on the parents 68 reg BMW X1 F48 which are very grabby. The front brake pad warning came up the other day stating 1,000 miles left, so thought it best to order these and give them a try. Was looking at Brembo pads which I've used before on previous cars or was going to try StopTech pads but ended up going for these as they seem the best overall. Not cheap pads by any means (£156 on a sale for the YellowStuff variant) and another £16 for the brake sensor wire but no doubt worth it when they arrive and are fitted.

Hi EBC Brakes, I am looking to get the EBC Yellow Pads for my 2022 Audi S6 Prestige model. I was wondering if these pads will have the same issue I am having with the OEM pads. The OEM pads grunt when coming to a slow stop, which is very annoying. The grunting noise does go away when the Pads are dry (when driving awhile). The issue is when the Pads are wet / moist due to weather which caused a grunting noise when coming to a stop. I think it's the material the is causing this, with that being said, Will EBC Pads experience the same issue? Thanks

Possibly also the transition / outer edge. Now it’s all yellow of course 😅 ...would have liked it discreetly painted in black (maybe thermal / exhaust paint ?!) Do you think that's a good idea or to what can you advise me whether and how I can do that ? ... what is the paint that is now attached ? and it goes also over the edge over to the pads / outer edge for the purpose of sealing , so I don’t want to make something wrong and damage my break system ..... what would be your recommendation. Or should I leave it and let the yellow pads hang out ;) Looking forward to your feedback ☺️Many greetings and keep up the good work !

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. One point to consider before making your choice of sport rotor is the air noise that can be noticed with sport rotors. With all slotted rotors there will be an increase in air noise as the rotor passes beneath the pads under normal driving and braking. Some people like this kind of “Turbo” sound and others do not. For this reason EBC produce two ranges of sport rotors, the 3GD or GD series being discussed here are the noisier of the two designs, our sister range the USR sport rotor range is MUCH quieter yet offers similar performance values If you would like any more information please contact technical@ebcbrakesuk.com Have a great evening 👍

Yellowstuff is designed for fast street driving and can handle the odd track day here and there, if you start to do track more often then we would suggest you think about moving up to Bluestuff on the fronts. Yellowstuff should hold up well for now though :)

Hi, where did you order these pads from and what's the part number? Thank you.

Hello guys, Yellow stuff might be good for fast road use, but they're not suitable for track use for sure. I went through a bad experience, turning them into dust after 3/4 of track day in rainy conditions (These were 20 minute sessions every hour). YS were new, correctly bedded in on new cast discs. Result was very different when using another brand of pads. I believe you make good products, but you have to sell them for the right purpose.

@@EBCBrakesUK Hello EBC team. Thank you for your answer. A comparative video with a numerical analysis (friction coefficient, wear, abrasiveness, visual analysis, quantity of dust, etc.) of your products on the measuring bench would already be a good idea, don't you think? Nobody does this, but you could be a pioneer. When you feel that the product sold does not correspond to what is written on the description, you don't want to do another experiment.

I will second this. One track day and the pads were shot. More than half used up. Had to swap them out before the next one.

Ive had a fair few pads on my car, i found the green stuff and yellow stuff quite poor, bite was poor and very dusty (using ebc discs too) i switched to PBS pads on factory discs and they are a little noisey, but the brake dust is alot less and the brake pedal feel is just immense, although to be fair the PBS pads are almost double the price of yellow stuff

“:Its rated very low dust pad”. Then you receive the pads and on the box stated yellowstuff as a very high dust pad 😄😄 going to try them anyway, just laughing at the marketing moves.

EBC bed in process is way too long and unnecessary. It’s only to save their asses if someone fucks up so they aren’t liable. The best way to bed any pad is to do multiple 60/70 to 20s without coming to a stop and get them hot to the point of fading. Once you’re there, drive around for a while without stopping(a few stops to obey traffic are necessary but try to not press brake as much as possible.) I run Yellows on the track and this is what I do for bedding in and have never had a issue!

Hi, thankyou for your feedback we are glad to hear that you are getting on with our pads. We fully understand and acknowledge that people may not follow our bed in guidelines however these are here as the set way to bed in based on many hundreds of hours of testing and development. These guidelines are supplied with every set of pads and are there to make sure that people understand how to bed in their pads correctly. EBC Brakes fully encourage people to follow the instructions supplied. It is important to remember that everyone's situations are different and that whereas some people may just be bedding in new pads others may be bedding in new rotors/discs and pads. If you have any other questions please feel free to get in touch directly Have a great day.

This pad screems like a newborn baby, the biggest problem is no warning when pad is done. Those issues aside, from 100mph to zero you won't find anything better.
