Kodachrome was a B&W film where the color is added later on the development process. The B&W has more tones than color film which gives this tridimensional contrast on McCurry's photography.

You mentioned that Steve McCurry shoots in soft light & favours bright colours. I think it's also important to mention the background of his images. He always looks for clean backgrounds too preferring darker tones - no bright highlights.

Hello thank you for super lessons, a question please. İ want to edit my portrait photos like old style otantique portrait. How can i add blacks in every clour to make darker clour? For example very dark black-red =burgundy or black- green ? But it is not possible with hue chanel ! Or black-white chanel! İ tried them too

Easy, you open photoshop, remove some things here and there and you are done. At least that is how he works now.
