How To Eliminate Vibration - Innovative Motor Mount Hack

Innovative brand motor mounts are far superior to OEM mounts for reducing drivetrain motion - but they can cause very undesirable Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH). Fortunately they can be modified very easily, literally hacked, to eliminate excessive vibration almost entirely. The result is AMAZING! This can be done for any number of cars including all generations of Toyota MR2 (AW11, SW20, and ZZW30 Spyder) and many many others, even Hondas!

I purchased a rear motor Mount for my civic si . Shaved the excess rubber just off the top so metal tube is exposed and makes contact . Torqued to spec . Nice and tight . No vibration or noise . Feels great .

I just got mine today and was wondering if I needed to shave all the excess rubber. This sounds good! Any trouble with the putting the mount on the new bracket?

@@edgaraguilar7040 no trouble at all . I would install it as is and if it vibrates or feels ugly then yes shave it . I shaved mine and feels good. No unwanted vibrating or droning

I purchased the Innovative mounts and was afraid how much vibration it will make. Thank you for sharing this knowledge. I will shave the extra rubber for sure. Thank you kind sir.

I installed innovative mounts on my MR2 and the vibrations was unbearable. The whole car was resonating like crazy. It felt like I was driving without exhaust. I cut inserts on front and rear mounts just like on the video and it worked. The car no longer vibrates and the engine is still stiff. Thanks a lot!

You should record a quick water vibration test basically recording a water bottle in the car to see how much it vibrates it

Great video, BTW Hasport has inserts that come without the lip (flangeless) as an option as well. They should work with Innovative mounts as well. I ended up finding a softer bushing from a Ford Expedition frame bushing that worked perfectly. 10 decibels quieter in my cabin ;).

Wouldn't NHV be coming from metal to metal contact through the center metal tubes in the bushing, to the bracket/frame? Most oem mounts use rubber and sometimes the metal housings of the mount is completely coated with rubber too. This is to absorb the vibrations and noise. Removing that rubber eould just reduce this dampening, logically speaking.
@Merryfrankster_
@Merryfrankster_ Жыл бұрын
Have you even looked at an OEM mount?
@JohnBoulding
@JohnBoulding Жыл бұрын
@@Merryfrankster_ I have looked at more OEM mounts than I can count ,to be honest. I have been working on cars and modifying them since 1980. The last mount I removed was from a 2018 Mazda 3 the mount was typical OEM rubber, and the metal casing was also coated in rubber. I replaced it with a new performance mount , that is billet aluminum and poly bushings. The bushings have steel tube inserts and it extends .40 beyond the poly bushings surfaces. The NHV has increased noticeably , as well as hearing gear whine from the tranny and some.road noise. Metal to metal contact conducts sound and vibration way more than having an isolator/absorber like rubber, between the contact points.

this is probably what they mean when your new aftermarket mounts will "break-in". that rubber eventually gets worn in due to vibrations.

That could be a long long long break-in.... but who's in a rush, right?

Installed Innovation motor and transmission and diff mounts on my supercharged S2000, and the whole car vibrates. 90% of it is the motor mounts, and I'll be doing this trick tomorrow to cut the vibration down.

That's a brilliant idea, thank you for sharing! Only concern I have is whether the stability of the mounts will be affected by reducing its contact with the bracket. Seems like that extra bit of rubber on the sides would help tighten it up and prevent side to side play since the inner tube is loose, but I'm no engineer. Did you notice any adverse affects from this mod such as more engine movement?
@Merryfrankster_
@Merryfrankster_ 3 жыл бұрын
The entire concept of this mod is to seat the mounts securely so excess motion and vibration are eliminated.

@ArthurSperotto

I did! On the side mounts, they allowed the motor to move back about 1 inch because the bushing slid inside the mount. That was only at ~500hp.

I got me a full set of hasports and I get the same vibration/hum sounds. Can I cut off the sides aswell? And do you recommend to cut the sides of all of them or only engine and trans mount? Thanks
@Merryfrankster_
@Merryfrankster_ Жыл бұрын
i am not familiar with your mounts, but probably yes, modifying them as shown would help, if this helps to put the center bushing in direct contact with the bracket and ensure a secure mount. Start with the mount on the firewall. Then the passenger side. Then driver side.

Hmm good to know. About to pick-up a single used rear Innovative mount for cheap so why the heck wouldn't I try this?! A good way to see if they're for me. By chance do you know what the durometer of the black rubber mounts is? 75?

Weight reduction advantage. Washers add weight. Trimming the bushings removes weight.

Try to figure out whicn one contributes the most NVH, probably the one on the firewall, do that one first, then others as needed.

This will work for any mount where the rubber insulator material is overfilled and does not allow secure contact between the mount bushing and the mount bracket.

I have explained and demonstrated as clearly as possible why and how it works. Up to you to process that and figure out if it works for your mount.

It works on any mount that transmits vibration because the insulator is too wide.
@FroztiProductions
@FroztiProductions 2 жыл бұрын
The vibration should only be from the added vibration, causing the engine vibration to vibrate through the frame of the car instead of being absorbed or dampened by the soft OE rubber/fluid. I don't believe this helps at all.
