An even simpler way to make a pattern with stuff you already probably have, is to use hot glue on a hard flat surface. I did it this way when I was a child. It works pretty well and it's really easy.

Hey! great video! An easy way to check the deepness setting of your CNC is to use an multi-meter in continuity check mode. Simply tape a small square of aluminium paper on your material and check the continuity between the CNC mill and the aluminium square. As soon as the continuity is reached, the CNC mill is just touching the material. It's easy, cheap and aluminum paper sheets are thinner than paper ones.

if you have access to screw clamps (or the ability to make some) you can make a simple 1 tonne press to emboss whole pieces all at once. You'll need some blocking (padding) to get the effect. Dense wool sheets work well, felt can work too. It's good to have a sheet or two of newsprint (

Does the depth of the grooves matter for embossing?
@GetHandsDirty8 жыл бұрын
Yes. If it is too deep, there is a chance of tearing the paper if you press hard. And if it is very shallow, the embossing then will have less texture of course.

Hi Robert, the material I used first was scraps of Valchromat (top quality mdf that comes in different colors - same material I used to build the loft bed and work space). The brass rod is 3mm. @GetHandsDirty8 жыл бұрын
Hey Steph! Nice to see you and thank you so much for the support! My CNC is an X-Carve from Inventables. Go to inventables dot com and find it. You need bits, quite a few if you plan on making small and tiny carvings because those break more often. You don't need much more...If you order the complete set, it comes with tools for assembly and everything needed. So you just need router/milling bits and material of course :p And tons of patience to calibrate it :)
@GetHandsDirty8 жыл бұрын
Oh now that I read again, maybe you were asking about the router itself. It's a dewalt D26200 (called 611 in usa). You might need to buy extra collets/adapters depending on the diameter shank of the bits you are going to use.
@stephboeker78358 жыл бұрын
Yes, I was asking about the CNC machine, sorry about the confusion. :) Originally , the idea was to cut negatives (holes) in the shape of letters and numbers for the outside border (sides) of a chess board to designate the rows. Then I could fill them w/ a colored epoxy and sand flush. On second thought, I wondered if I could even cut positives (raised) letters , mirror image, turn them upside down, press and glue them into the negative lettering and and them flush. I'm curious but scared about the software as I not familiar w/ cad, design and technical software language or applications. Do you think your CNC software would accomplish this type of task? Thanks for your timely reply and your generous consideration, Steph_Louisiana
@GetHandsDirty8 жыл бұрын
I see. With the X-Carve you can use a browser based software that is free called Easel and it has options to make inlays. So it creates both positive and negative shapes with the correct size to match. Maybe you can google "Make an inlay with easel inventables". There should be some forum threads about this.
@stephboeker78358 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Cristiana ! :) I'll do that ! Happy Holidays ! Steph_Louisiana
