My Mom was Left handed..... she want me, who is Right handed, to teach her how to Crochet, I wasn't sure that I could show her.....she sat across from me and watched me, and she learned how to crochet! She made a huge granny square afghan, with an "Orange, Yellow and Green" yarn. (It was the 70's) I myself made one in a "Purple, Lavender and White". 😊👍 Plus......I made a sleeve of a sweater, with the help of an older lady coworker back in the mid 80's. Knitted, in "Grey, Tan, White and slate blue" yarn. I never finished it, after I quit my job I couldn't figure out how to finish it. Lol.....I still have the yarn though! Figured that I would add some Black yarn and wear it with anything. I do have a adult niece who knows how to knit......she is very good at it, she spins her own wool into yarn, stains it, and knits stuff. AND, she was born Blind! (She has a College Degree in Social Work. Runs in Marathons, with a partner. Plays several different types of instruments. Is Married, to a man that can see, is a Teacher. They have been remodeling their own first home for a few years now. She doesn't have a seeing eye dog, just her white Stick. She loves cats. She is great with Children, but like me hasn't had any. Yet....they still have a few good years left to try for Children. Not sure if they want to really have any, considering how things are these days. 🤷 But she, like me, has several nieces and nephews to love on. I'm very proud of her and her accomplishments.) I decided to see if she can make me a sweater with my "Grey, Tan, White and slate blue" yarn. And have her add in some Black yarn. I asked her how she was able to "read" the pattern instructions.....she scans it into her computer or an app on her phone and it talks to her. 😁👍 I have completed several "cross stitch" things in the past. I understand how to do that. I haven't used a Sewing Machine since 1985, when I had Home Economics. Lol....I made a rainbow striped shirt, a navy blue velour sweat jacket, a jumpsuit that was white with Paint splatters, and a Stuffed Unicorn! I have them all except the Unicorn. I believe that I gave that to one of my nieces? 🤷 I Do have a Sewing Machine.....I just need to learn how to use it! 😁👍

Thank you, great video. By the way, and I don’t mean to be critical just helpful - you have your zipper foot back to front. The spaces are for the IDT system and you will find you can get closer to the zip as well as keeping your fabric and zipper lined up.

Question for you - when you clean up your edges and you cut any of your herringbone stitch, does that make them fray or fall out? Newbie here so I’m still learning, thanks for fielding my question!
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts11 ай бұрын
When you sew your edges into a pillow or a quilt it will sew the herringbone stitching down so not to worry.

so inspiring. I have alot of different dressmaking fabric. I noticed all of your fabric scraps look like 100% cotton. could I do the same and mix up the fabrics Viscose, Cotton, wool blends, Linen, basically Wovens or go the extra and pop in Knits!!! as they would be stablised by the backing sheet??
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts Жыл бұрын
You sure can! That’s the beauty of a crazy quilt. You can mix it up with all different types of fabric. I have mostly cotton fabric for most of my projects so that is what I have on hand for scraps.

Love your instructions. Question - Does the Herringbone stitch go through all layers which includes the backing? Or just the top layer? Thank you so much
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts Жыл бұрын
It doesn’t matter if you go through just the top layer or catch the foundation layer as well. Sometimes it’s just the top and sometimes it’s both for me. I don’t worry about it. I just stitch. It will be hidden in your project anyways.

You can pull one strand of floss at a time and then regroup so it does not twist as you stitch.

Thank you 😊 what size stitch & tension did you use for zig zag around edge of quilt work? And what size stitch & tension when sewing the front and back together to make pillow? Thank you new to seeing and just loved this video and prior ❤

Glad you are enjoying the crazy quilting tutorials. Just an average stitch length is fine and the zig zag can be any width and length. It’s very forgiving.

I used all herringbone in this demonstration. But you can certainly add more decorative stitches if desired.

Do you have to embroider it?
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts3 ай бұрын
In the late 1800’s crazy quilts were very popular. They used scraps of fabric to make irregular shapes and sewed the shapes together and it was tradition to add meticulous hand embroidery. Today if you don’t want a traditional looking crazy quilt than you don’t have to add the embroidery.

Would one strand of Perl cotton # 8 give the same effect as 3 strands of embroidery floss? Thanks Lou
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts Жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. I always say use what you have. Pearl cottons work great for embroidery and a number 8 will be close to 3 strands of embroidery thread.

I spoke about not taking the collar off in the video as well as not using more than 2 to 3 ft at a time. You might have missed that. It was a long video.
@lucy7b Жыл бұрын
@@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts you did say you could leave the collar on but still didn’t show the proper way.
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts Жыл бұрын
It’s funny how you picked up on that because I know I was thinking the same thing about pulling the thread out with the sleeve on and I actually do that all the time but for some reason I was thinking more about separating strands. So much to remember when producing videos. Lots to think about. How to present it, what to add, what to take out when editing. Hard to get everything perfect. My mind is thinking of the next step when sometimes I need to concentrate on the step I’m on. It’s a bit of a juggle for sure.
