Hoping you can help with an issue I am having. I was using a J5create capture card device with the M50 via HDMI. This worked flawlessly for two years. Suddenly a few weeks ago, I plugged everything in as I do every week and the feed I am getting has black bars at the top and bottom of the screen and the video is squished. Have you heard of this? I have tried EVERYTHING including a new capture card, settings check and more. Thanks in advance!

I know, tbh honest I’d look at Sony, most of their cameras have clean hdmi, from the a5100 up, I use the GoPro too, made a bunch of videos explaining how to use that 👍

The one thing I dislike about the A5100 is there's no mic input... it's like, everything just falls short of like 100% awesome and useful. haha

Yes no auto focus whilst live streaming on the m50, if you have another camera it may work. You can double check all the details of your cam on the elgato camera checker website. Hope this helps 👍👍

I have a Canon Rebel T100 and I cannot get rid of the white box or the AF. If I put the AF on then I have that auto tracking face box, turn it off I have a solid box on my screen. Any tips? How do you keep the camera on while streaming? In settings there is no option for the screen to stay in longer then 30 minutes, unless you hit record but then the record dot is on the screen

the only downfall, i set a timer on my stream deck and then during a transition or something i press the shutter button and then it resets the timer.

cratosayala10 the canon m50 goes into slee mode after 30 mins and unfortunately all you can do is just press the shutter button to wake it up when it does that. I set a 30 timer on my stream deck to remind me 👌

The power stays on but the picture will go off after 30 mins, I set a timer on my stream deck and pressing the shutter resets the time. Bit of a pain but not that much of a problem

@@ZanderRound turns out that you can connect your m50 to pc through usb cable also while using camlink. Install eos utility and open the love control when using it with Elgato. The m50 will now stay on indefinetely (mine last 2 hours before the battery runs out)

Hi thanks it very much depends on what lens your using, if your wide open at 1.4 then not much 15cm or so, if you are stopped down to 3.5 or f4 then you will have more leeway, hope this helps

Because I was all about this camera for my stream and when you mentioned the shallow depth of field it kinda turned me off. If it’s not bad (maybe 1 foot forward and back) I may still grab the M50 because it seems like the camera for me with hdmi out for streaming as well as the capabilities to take nice photos and shoot video on 4K when I make KZbin content

Jordan H the camera is fantastic, i use the sigma 16mm 1.4 so it has a shallow depth of field the kit lens would be great for live streaming. The only down side is the 4K, the autofocus is not great but all in all I love the camera

I would suggest.....make sure the cam link software isn’t running, sometimes it connects to that rather than obs......double check cam link 4K is selected In obs on your video capture source.......Double check hdmi out is enabled on m50.....try another hdmi cable.......other than that I’m not sure, the only time I get a no signal image is when I’m connected to my other hd60 and nothing is turned on. Hope your sort it. 👍

Gus Fahrendorf download EOS utilities beta from canon website , click on m50 the software will help you directly connect to obs. Check out videos on this. Seems like a fool proof way for beginners to get started!

Alternatively, connect your M50 via USB and use the Canon Webcam Utility to use your M50 as webcam in all common software (Zoom, Skype, Teams, WebEx etc) as well as with OBS. If you want to connect more than one M50, you can also use a little tool called Camera Live (open source) and use that to connect two M50s and use them in OBS. You can also use CamTwist (on Mac) to use the Camera Live stream(s) as webcam (although if you are using one camera only I recommend the Canon Webcam Utility).
