The part where you use the slider, suggesting 5% should give plenty of options. Well no, it didn't, neither did taking the slider to 15%. I was left with only one choice which was so recent, it was AFTER the problems began. Maybe the problem is blocking all other options because when I tried to make my own point, it was registered as the time I made it, in other words only five minutes earlier. My problem is the "we can't sign in to your account" message, and all the tutorials and hints I've followed refuse to make the problem go away. Microsoft telephone help line is useless as it's virtually impossible to get through and when I eventually did, the assistant said she wasn't the one to deal with the problem and would put me through. After several minutes of music the line went dead.

A system restore point is not connected to how you login to the machine. System Restore does not care if you're using a local account or not. The problem must be elsewhere in Windows, possibly system file corruption

@@AskYourComputerGuy Thanks for the response. Any idea how I can get out of this fix? I'll try microsoft phoneline again, but meanwhile I have lost access to all my old files although least I'm able to make new ones with what I've got.

Without being onsite and seeing exactly what's happening, I'd recommend a VERY detailed Google search. Any Microsoft results, I would click on

Thanks for this. Is there any way to restore windows 10 back to when your computer was new without all the windows updates? This was a much used feature that I miss so much!

Usually restore points don't go back that far, unless you purposefully expanded the amount of storage to use for restore points from the default settings. So in this case, you'd basically have to do a factory restore to go all the way back to day 1, or just go back as far as your restore points will allow. I don't know of any other way that doesn't involve Windows updates

@@AskYourComputerGuy Sorry! I worded that wrong. What I want to know how to do is a factory restore. Windows 10 no longer gives you that option.

I'm not aware of any situation where the factory restore would go away, unless you upgraded from Window 7. In that case you'd end up back on 7. You can always download W10 to a flash drive and reinstall that way. Definitely recommend backing up your drivers first with Drivermax first (it's free). It will save you a ton of time, I promise! Here's the video on how to get W10 downloaded to a flash drive to reinstall: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5_EgIOumZupqas

@@AskYourComputerGuy Thanks for your reply. I’m still not making myself clear I don’t think! You can ‘reset’ Windows 10, which wipes it, however, it keeps all the Windows 10 updates that have been installed since the purchase. In previous editions of Windows you could do a factory restore and it would bring the computer back to the exact windows that was on there when you bought it. What I’m trying to do is restore my computer to the version of windows 10 that it had when I bought it. An update to Windows 10 ruined an old game I play and it’s too late too roll back. I used to be able to factory restore on older versions of Windows.

So you're talking about a factory recovery, not a restore. That makes more sense. Not sure if I missed you mentioning it, but if you have a recovery partition, which you should with Windows 10, you can usually run recovery from startup or during POST (doing it right now on a Dell, actually). Just need to find the recovery "trigger" (keystroke or function key), depending on machine manufacturer. That will restore it back to factory settings with no updates

I just found this out today, and I'm pissed. I installed a driver update, one that stated it had created a restore point prior to install, well guess what, it didn't and it seems to be causing stability issues. I have a somewhat recent image of the system that I can use, so not the end of the world, but still very annoying.

For the most part system restore doesn't work. They never updated it so I wouldn't depend on it. One thing I would say is boot to system repairs and try it from there you may have better luck. I haven't try this myself but if I ran into problems that is what I would do.
@AskYourComputerGuy

Agreed. It definitely needs a core update. But sometimes it's the only available option :(
