Just a few decades ago, it was a rare sight to see a woman working in a #STEM field (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). Today, while more common, women are still outnumbered 3 to 1 by their male counterparts. Based on scientific research, we've identified five actions that will help engage more girls in STEM. EPI is implementing these initiatives into its daily work as part of its #STEM4Good campaign. And you can, too.

Thank you for supporting Female Biologists. Whenever I hear about Women in STEM, they always seem to be left out of the conversation.

But you don't talk about how most men don't take interest in Literature, and related fields at age 15..Neither do you talk about how women take interest in these above fields at the age of 15.. Science and Maths become real science and Maths at high school.. So it is not surprise that some lose interest in these at the age of 15.

Introduce practical science at a younger age seeing as girls make life choices younger (on average) and all humans are swayed by familiarity and validation by proven talent and or understanding. Most of the top students in my science classes were girls but everyone has there own dreams and quite often girls before boys

We are more so talking about how women are discouraged from pursuing a STEM career because it is male-dominated. All of us should have equal chances of achieving this. The STEM field should not be opened primarily to men.

"This loss of confidence isn't inherent" (it actually is) "It's a direct result of the unique issues women face" (no, it's not) And then goes on to list these "issues" and it only takes a few seconds before we hear the words "implicit bias", a sure sign the speaker has nothing to back up her ideas. "Together we can help eliminate these obstacles". Hope you are more successful than everyone in the last 50 years that has tried! The ratios are the same as they were in the 80's and we've done nothing but beg and plead and create program after program to get women interested in STEM fields. Guess what? They aren't interested. But i'm sure the next generation of social engineers will fix this grave injustice where others have failed!

Hello Goodbye Hello Goodbye they always say feminists are the ones who get triggered, but in this comment section, the people arguing with us seem to be the ones who are getting all worked up, spewing whatever insults they can come up with, as if the misogynistic “facts” they are all failing to back up aren’t rude enough.

Hello Goodbye I just don’t understand what’s so wrong with a video encouraging women in STEM. I genuinely want to know, why are you so against it?
@pt3419
@pt3419 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Goodbye That’s because as of now there are a lot more men at the top of many industries (like medicine, and politics, and STEM) than women. Furthermore, the boundaries faced by women seem to be much worse. People are commenting things in this forum saying girls aren’t as smart as boys or that we won’t ever be willing to work hard or that we only care about our looks and whatnot. Boys aren’t being told the same. Encouraging boys is therefore not as urgent as encouraging girls. It’s that simple. And encouraging girls to go into STEM isn’t showing that “some genders are more equal than others”. It’s literally a textbook example of ensuring equity, which is necessary if we ever want to reach equality. BTW This discussion is getting awfully repetitive and we are clearly getting nowhere. It’s rather annoying. We should end things here as I’m sure we both have better things to do in our free time.
@pt3419

Hello Goodbye Dude, I’m here saying we should encourage more women to explore STEM and you take it as a threat to boys everywhere and decide to give a rude reply? Lol, looks like you need a class in logic. I’ll gladly sacrifice my time for women’s empowerment but I will not discuss this with you any longer. If you have a problem with women’s empowerment, then there’s a problem with you. I hate it when people choose to be ignorant. Enjoy your life and don’t expect another response from me.

Well, if you can use science to make sure girls are compelled to pursue interest in the sciences, and you can do so regardless of whether or not the girl those are girls in the complete biological sense, you really haven't got anything to fuss about. It's a shame you don't show any support for biological girlhood, and in light of the state of things, I'd say you have a responsibility to switch gears and focus on that.
@TS-fh4ii
@TS-fh4ii 3 жыл бұрын
biological girlhood doesn't exist..... seeing as being a "girl" is manufactured. So to have biological support for girlhood would be an inaccurate statement. A girl is not born liking pink, dolls, and makeup they are given those ideas of being a girl. Women outperform men in STEM academically all throughout schooling. Literally from preschool to doctoral degrees women consistently perform better in STEM subjects than men but they are farrrrr more likely than men to report not being good at STEM even though they are freaking crushing it. It is a confidence thing and it derives from what women are told throughout their whole lives about STEM. It's actually funny because there are research studies where they ask the men in STEM classes if they would ever ask their women classmates for help in their coursework and they always say no because they believe they are doing better than the women and they they show them that the women are actually outperforming them and completely prove them wrong.

I hate to let reality rear it’s ugly head, but women mostly don’t choose STEM fields because they would rather work with people than things. In Scandinavian countries that are generally considered the most “equal” there is an even greater difference between the fields women choose as opposed to the fields men choose. Algeria has the honor of having the greatest equality of women and men in STEM fields. Is that good? Let people do what they want!

I wonder how can someone solve the problems humanity is facing when they themselves can't pursue science due to some hypothetical STEREOTYPE.. There is no one stopping you to choose STEM.. If you can't even choose a field on your own how can one expect you to excel in science..?? If there is a stereotype that women can't excel in science then you should change that stereotype by proving your competence.. Why are you not confident about yourself.. If so how can someone work in STEM?
