Very informative thank you! It’s a bit different to the epoxy application I normally do but I’m looking forward to trying it

I’ve tried masking with frog tape in green and the high build still creeps beneath, would the blue decorators tape work ? Thanks

Hi, great video, thanks for uploading this. I've just finished rebuilding one of my beach rods and did a nice job, however, I've just epoxied over the decal and it looks a mess, wavey and lots of craters...is there anyway I can rescue this, without having to start that section of the rod again?? Many thanks, Gareth
@pierpoint-customrodbuildin67994 жыл бұрын
Hi there, ok dont panic. If you have craters the decal may have become contaminated with oil or grease? However, allow to dry for 24hrs then rub the area lightly with 800 grade wet and dry (no water) to provide a key. lightly wipe the area with meths to get rid of dust and dirt. It will look a bit 'rough', then apply another coat of epoxy resin. Dont put any solvents in the mix as this can affect the decal.

@@pierpoint-customrodbuildin6799 Thanks, I will check it out. One more question if I may. After you have applied the epoxy, how long to you wait until you remove the masking tape?? Cheers
@pierpoint-customrodbuildin67994 жыл бұрын
Definitely within the hour and virtually straight away once you have applied your epoxy. Its only there to help you get a straight line.

Hi Bob great videos, really helping me out. I was wondering were you get the zziplex decals from. I have heard a few names mentioned but was just wondering who you go to. Hope this isn't to cheeky

Hi Bob, I have another question if that's ok. My dryer is 25RPM...do you think this is a bit fast for when it comes to the epoxy levelling out over the decal?? Cheers, Gareth
@pierpoint-customrodbuildin67994 жыл бұрын
I have two dryers 8/9rpm and 15-18rpm which is fine for me. I dont have a faster one and could not tell you what it does? Slow and methodical is best?

How long do you leave your tape?
@shauntaylor9251 Жыл бұрын
It's so much easier to mix resin in a mixing cup ! What is the point of letting at least 20% of it run off the rod ?

Hi, great video! I would like to ask you 2 questions, if you do not mind ;-) First, in the video, you did not apply heat to the epoxy resin to remove bubbles. Do you use some kind of special and very liquid epoxy resin, which does not create bubbles? Second, when do you remove the masking tapes? Just after applying the resin when it is still liquid, or do you wait a few hours when it begins to harden a little?
@pierpoint-customrodbuildin67994 жыл бұрын
The Resin is the Gen4Resin that has extreme air release technology built in so requires minimal heat. I remove the masking tape within about 20-30 minutes. Hope that helps. PS we (PierPoint) are the UK distributors for the Gen4Resin. Just contact us via Facebook or our Website for ordering.

@@pierpoint-customrodbuildin6799 Hi, thank you for your answer. I watched the video again and indeed you mentioned several times the technical specificity of the resin (but I did not catch it the first time ;-) since I used to use the most commonly sold resins for rodbuilders). One last question if you do not mind: is the Gen4Resin suited for coating thread wraps? or should I use it on decals only?
