I really like the helmet especially the aventail I plan on putting a norse helm together and I wanted to find something that can protect your neck better than chainmail. I think I'll have the lamellar aventail but put on the front front to make it easier to breath all while still being heavily protected.

How are the chest and back sections shaped and rigid like that? It seems like they have some heft to them, like they have a metal plate backing to them or something.
@taocry2 жыл бұрын
The shape is not history accurate. This team is trying to mock Plate armour. They should mention it. How to make it accurate? We still need wait for archaeological finds from some tomb。

@@taocry We don't really have any surviving artifacts so far. We only have diagrams and paintings of them existing.
@jintsuubest9331 Жыл бұрын
The structure comes from the geometry of the small individual pieces and the linkage method. Depends on various adjustment, they can be as fluid as scale armor to as rigid as plate. There are lots of artworks depicting such armor, there is at least 1 instance of diagram of those individual plate. However there is no archeological evidence of such armor exist. Logically I do not think such armor exist, as the most advance armor employed even by the emperor is brigandine of some sort with comparatively small plate.

Very nice video but calling it "ancient Chinese armour" is too generalised. Considering the various imperial dynasties throughout China's history all had distinctively different types and styles of armour. This set of armour looks to be of the Song dynasty 10th century - 14th century

More like 30%. the actual pieces seems right. But the way they are attached are mostly wrong. At the very least, the spring hooks were not used at the period. Also the beast heads were used to over the gap between the shoulder and the upper arm, which was not done here. There are still bits and pieces wrong. But overall, a good attempt at historical restoration.

Not really. European knights also have women. Chinese armor is lighter than knight armor after the 13th century
@skatetrooper52854 жыл бұрын
@@lolfang5725 it depends on the armor but not really... The thing is European armor weight was better distribute around the body better most of it concentrated in the core part of the human body so actually feels lighter even if it is heavier. This is why knights as well as men-at-arms can fight on Horseback or on foot with no problem. Even so plate armor was over all lighter then most other types of armor with the same coverage because they did a better job in utilizing the mass of the steel for the coverage as it was heavily shaped to the Human body.
@limonbattery3 жыл бұрын
@@skatetrooper5285 This. The mobility difference weight distribution makes is huge - just compare early samurai armor (a bit more comparable to this) with late samurai armor (much more similar to European plate) and it's night and day. Though to be fair that's several centuries worth of advancement so better performance is to be expected.

That's really the point. If one part is damaged, then it can be easily and cheaply fixed unlike big pieces of armor. Even then it can give very good protection.
