Thanks for this. I never learned anything ground game when I studied martial arts, so I always wondered what I would do if someone happened to try this. My instincts were always " Spear hand the throat or eyes", " grab the ankle locked into you and twist it off". Unfortunately, I never really wanted to do things that vicious. This is a nice, safe defense that can be used even if I don't hate the person and want them to suffer as much as possible. Of course I am fully aware that the odds of someone attacking me are infinitesimal, as I don't sport-fight and people rarely just attack each other on the streets mortal kombat style. It was nice to learn.

Thanks for the tip. One thing to remember in street fighting (yes. I've had my fair share of experiences): There are NO RULES! It is ALL about survival. Chances are, I am the one who will be applying the RNC (since it's one of my favorite go-tos), than the other way around. But, it's still good to know. I was first introduced to combatives by my ex, when he was certified in the Army. I then started taking MMA classes at my gym, moved to boxing. And now, I've been training in Krav Maga. You can never learn too much, practice too much, or prepare too much. And you should NEVER underestimate your opponent (no matter what), if you want to win and/or survive! Life lessons.

When you're in a life-or-death situation, Jiu Jitsu moves are not really the first thing that come onto a person who feels threatened mind. For example, I know a kid at my school named Adrian, who, in middle school got in a brutal fight with another kid in the bathroom. What happened was the kid got behind him and put him in a rear naked choke or something similar, and Adrian immediately started elbowing him repeatedly in the gut until he let go. Then once he released his grip, Adrian grabbed him by one arm and slung him face-first into a urinal. Then he stormed up to him and held his face into the urinal. Then once he let go, he grabbed him by the other arm and picked him up off the ground and swung his arm downward, slamming him face-first onto the tile bathroom floor, spraining both arms due to how hard he had slung him, and also bloodying up his face after it had hit the ground. Then once Adrian decided that he had done enough, he left, until the kid grabbed him by the ankle. Adrian then turned around and started stomping him out and then got ontop of his back and started wailing on him - delivering punches left and right to the back of his head. Then once he grew tired he left him in the bathroom, bloodied up and beaten stupid. He told me the reason the kid had attacked him, was supposedly over a love triangle between him, the kid who he had literally destroyed, and a girl that loved Adrian more. I guess it was out of jealousy, as to what may explain why the stupid ass kid decided to fuck with the wrong person. But anyways, that's how you get out of a rear naked choke and follow up on the escape of the rear naked choke.

From experience, I can say that there's at least a chance of escaping a rear naked choke once it's fully locked in. In high school I fought a guy who was a black belt in BJJ. He put me in an RNC, so I tucked my chin to relieve the pressure and buy a few more seconds. I then grabbed the back of his head and drilled my fingers into his eye sockets as hard as I could. It loosened his grip, which enabled me to bend his fingers from behind my head whilst pulling the arm with the other hand and release the hold. Don't let anyone make you believe that it's inescapable or you have no chance. MMA and UFC guys don't get eye gouged in fights, nor do they actually practise eye gouging in their training for obvious reasons, and the ones that have by accident were incapacitated within seconds, so don't underestimate the power of eye gouges. Anyone can say that they have a high tolerance to pain, but unless they feel someone digging into their eye sockets, they can talk as much as they like.

ShoutsWillEcho1 I'd say it's more like fighting like a survivalist. People say that eye strikes and kicks to the groin is a girly way of fighting, but they say that because it works and they don't want it happening to them. I watched one UFC match where a guy accidentally kicked another in the groin and it gave him a 10 second window of opportunity. A few lessons is all you need on the street. I've trained in several grappling systems, and quickly learned that a simple gouge or groin strike would enable you to easily escape most of these locks and positions.

You are lying. If he had the RNC seated properly (and someone with 10 years or so of BJJ experience would) lowering your chin would not relieve pressure. See Bas Ruttens thoughts on this subject.

I must say that the easiest and most instinctual defense is to put your hand to your cheek. Good luck trying to get a choke on that. Sure the opponent can try to dig thru your hand-cheek contact, but by then it is really easy to grap.

The only effective defense I've ever seen I had performed on me - I asked an instructor how to escape and he allowed me to put him in a choke so he could do the technique on me. In one second he jammed his thumb up and into somewhere on my elbow - the pain was so sharp and so immediate I yelped and immediately let go. I had an enormous bruise for days afterward. Unfortunately I never mastered the technique but at least I know it's out there

Just from a state champion wrestler, when they take back mount and sink in the hooks, a way to get out is hip smashing. Take your hip and slam it on the mat this will pull your opponent off of your back and force them into guard... Food for thought.

Again, presuming this is not tournament competition, at about timepoint 6:22 it looks like Stephen has the keys to break the arm with rotating the forearm outboard by twisting then smartly pulling the armbar down to pull Uki's hand down and to break thumb and apply fingernail cuticle pressure point.
@Arrowinthed
@Arrowinthed 10 жыл бұрын
It should be said that if you are trying to execute a RNC in a street fight and someone locks their chin, you can just take your forearm near the wrist and press it under their nose, pulling upward as if trying to bend their nose into their forehead. If you press up hard enough, most people will give you their neck to get the pressure off their nose, but if they don't, your gonna break the nose, which might also be enough for them to give you their neck, and even if they don't, you have a big advantage after you give an injury like that, it may even end the fight.
@starlightengramA
@starlightengramA 7 жыл бұрын
Presuming this is not tournament competition, at about timepoint 1:05 it looks like Stephen has the keys to break the thumbs and/or fingers that will make hand chokes quickly run away. This could also include breaking the wrist or forearm with a kimura style square knot. Just theory, of course.

I was always taught to fall to the overhook side like u showed here and usually if I'm on someone's back and end up in that position most of the time I usually can get the choke so I've been sticking with that but some guys are REALLY good at defending the RNC so it might be worth experimenting with.

Bas Rutten once shows an RNC defense where he said instead of chin down where someone can pull on your forehead and make your chin pop up, it was easier to push your chin to one shoulder or the other to keep an arm from getting under the chin. What do you think of that method?
@bikersoncall
@bikersoncall 3 жыл бұрын
9:08 You are not going to pull that left arm down with your left arm even if the guy is slightly weaker than you , am I wrong? Biceps; twice as strong as triceps in given the angles in this move, opponent is not about to let go cause you're 'tugging' on his arm using a weaker muscle set in this situation.

What could you say about people just plain choking you to death, that grip is getting stronger right, they are fighting back, so surely you can't just grab the wrist that easily for control.

What technique do you use if you can't really get their arms off of your neck? ie, they're just stronger or you don't have energy and good positioning? Thanks.

Can't the defending person grab the arm that's coming around the neck, lift it, and put his (own) head under the choking arm while turning toward the attacker and changing the situation?

You always have to fit the situation. I wasn't saying "do this or that "In hand to hand combat. Do whatever it takes to survive.
