Please provide additional tips on how to drop milk feed as it is becoming my baby's routine to put him to sleep and I don't want him to get used to this as he gets older. Thanks

Thank you for watching this video. It may take some time to drop a milk feed, as some babies become very used to a routine and resistant to changes in it. I go into more detail on how to drop a milk feed and give examples of feeding schedules in this blog post that you may find to be helpful: friendlykiddoc.com/feeding-schedule/

My baby is 7 months old and your videos are very helpful. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience. Please make a video on sleep training. I spoilt my baby co-sleeping. Now I want to go back to putting him in a crib. Also suggest sleep schedule for 6-12 months

Thank you for your feedback Sukanya! Yes sleep training is a very important topic for parents and I will need plan to make videos in the future covering that topic. Your child is at a great age to sleep train. Here is a link to a good resource article that talks about methods that a lot of parents find helpful: childrensmd.org/browse-by-age-group/newborn-infants/stress-cortisol-and-getting-your-baby-to-sleep/

Thanks for replying . I did read your blog it’s very informative . I’m having a hard time with what foods are considering fulfilling and whats considered a snack food feed , any information on that ? I’m having a hard time understand we are still on purées and she is 10 months her doctor recommends it still and I don’t know if that’s as fulfilling when dropping milk intake as to if we were to do finger foods . Thanks

@@janethmarie706to simplify things, I would focus on providing three solid food meals a day containing either vegetable, fruit, meat or carbohydrate food. Follow your baby’s cues to know when the baby is full. You can keep the milk feeds for snacks.

Thanks for your videos! How do you transition from purees to finger foods? once they are on finger foods how common is gagging? how long does it typically take for them to get a hang of chewing the food? Are there signs that you know they are ready for finger foods, or signs that they aren't ready? Thanks for your help!

Hi Heather. Thank you for your question. To avoid writing a novel here to give you detailed answers to your questions, you may find this blog post helpful where I describe signs that a baby is ready for solids and finger foods: friendlykiddoc.com/starting-solids-safely/ As long as the food is soft and cut in strips about the size of an adult pinky finger, the baby should have no problem chewing the food when showing all the signs of readiness to eat, mentioned in the blog post link. Gagging is common in babies the first several months of taking solids as purées or finger foods. But babies who start finger foods earlier, get over the gagging reflex sooner. Of course each baby is unique, and it varies how long the gag reflex lasts. Something you can do is offer purée as you’re doing, and then also put out strips of finger food for the baby to self feed as well. This give the baby opportunity to practice, and for you to see how ready the baby is for it.

Dear Dr. Belousov, thank you very much for the videos. They are very clear and well explained. You seem like a great doctor and wonderful person.🤗 I have a 9 month old baby who has started solids when she was 5 month old. One week ago, her first tooth came out and she had fever for several days. During these days she didnt want to eat but just nurse. Since 3 days she is doing fine but she still refuses to open her mouth and have any kind of purees (vegetables, meat or fruits). Should I be worried? Is this common at this age and what should I do to make her eat? I dont want to force her in any way but she looks thinner 😔 Also I need to mention that until now I have never given finger foods because i am afraid of choking but i gave her yesterday banana and peach as a whole and she wanted to chew. Maybe she needs transitioning 🤷 I am looking forward to your opinion and any suggestion.Keep up the great work. Tea

Thank you for your feedback Teuta. It sounds like your baby is ready to take finger foods. Many babies are more than safe to start self feeding foods cut into safe size strips after 8 months. If your baby is refusing to take purées at this time, why don’t you try to replace the meals with finger foods and give your baby the opportunity to self feed. Your child may want more independence now in the feeding process.

@@friendlykiddoc8796 Thank you very much for the reply. Should i cut the strips as you suggest in your videos (the size of pinky finger) or can I give her smaller bites?

@@teasaka if your baby has mastered using the thumb and index finger to pick things up, then it’s safe to give smaller pieces as long as they aren’t round like grapes. You could try offering strips and smaller pieces and see what the baby does the best with.

Thank you for seeking my input Monica. In my video on baby food preparation I cover some methods. Feel free to check it out for more information: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rprZhnqti6mDo7s If you are wondering what protein foods you can offer baby, I have a table that mentions them in this blog post: friendlykiddoc.com/balanced-meals/ You can take any of the protein foods and puree them with breastmilk, formula or a vegetable or fruit that you already exposed your child too.
