I love this tutorial! This brings me back to the days I worked in a sign shop in college. We did a lot of vinyl transfers in that job. I think I might need to buy a plotter now....

So, 'vinyle' were done, lol … I was just thinking, I could probably do that with any vinyl sticker that still has its outline. As always, another awesome upload :)

I have a mate who owns a vinyl printing/cutting machine. I suggested a fractal design would be sick to etch and he laughed at me then explained I would be picking out the little bits of vinyl for hours before I had a usable print :(

Thanks for the video. Question: Could I etch an entire glass panel, to make an opaque finish? If so, is there a product/brand you’d recommend? Thank you!

I wonder if this comment is as underrated as this channel? Nope, not even possible. Alex - dunno if you'll see this but what's your background? There's an article on the site that says some stuff about modding and favourite bits and pieces but where'd you learn all this? A lot of this is pretty in-depth maker/engineering knowledge that's pretty rare, even in the modding world.

I love your work and your videos! I'm assuming I already know the answer, but does this work as well on the tinted tempered glass like on the thermaltake P3 and P5? Keep up the great content. Your work is absolutely amazing!

Thanks for showing on how to do it, I was planing on doing it on my TG from my O11D razzr edition. But mind me asking, how are the results if u are sidelighting the glass panel? Like, in this case in the front panel which has sidelighting, is the result good enough to be seen or should there be used a different techniques in order to have a good enough result? Sorry for the bad english
@Phahel7
@Phahel7 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen etching done much since mid 2000's but back then you basically had to side light the panel for the etch to glow properly.

@@Metatr0n Yeah I found them, and I'm impressed by how little the compression on KZbin has affected the audio quality. It would be nice to find some FLAC files of the songs if they exist. I'll have to see where I can buy it in FLAC format. (Or download it from the Artist officially if they are offered for free officially via the Artist themselves).

Expected this stuff to be hydroflouric acid. Active ingredients appear to be ammonium biflouride and sodium biflouride - any chemists here know if either of these have the same bone hurting juice effect as HF?

Ooooo you need a montage. Even Rocky had a montage. ;-) Is there anything similar that can be used on acrylic?
@longnamedude3947
@longnamedude3947 4 жыл бұрын
Acrylic isn't so cut and dry, it would heavily depend on what grade of Acrylic it is...... Plastics don't usually withstand such aggressive chemicals In the same way. And any plastics that do are not usually found on computer cases due to cost, weight, structural rigidity, and many other factors. So, it is possible, but you'll want to properly research the subject before attempting it, and if you can, try it on a seperate piece of the same material, do not immediately try it on your computer case side panel, because, if it goes wrong, you won't be able to remedy it.
@kellerenton
@kellerenton 4 жыл бұрын
You can use regular old sandpaper or a sanding sponge on acrylic. Tho I'm not sure how well that would work with a stencil.
@MakinComputers
@MakinComputers 4 жыл бұрын
@@kellerenton Yeh getting into the edges and getting a finish that even would be a nightmare. Probably better off just using clear opaque vynl as a sticker for the pattern, rather than as a stencil to apply it.

With a stencil you can use frosted spray paint on the acrylic.

Is it possible to do this on a way weaker scale? Say, I want to etch the screen of a smartphone to be less reflective but still be normally usable and not etched to the point that it just becomes like the result in the video.

@bittech1
@bittech1 4 жыл бұрын
Not really, this is a chemical etching process so it's part of the glass surface itself now, much the same as laser etching. Laser's great if you have a large and intricate job, but most people don't have access to that process. Also laser etching doesn't really like larger surfaces much like this technique thanks to the visibility of the raster lines. Additionally you can't easily use lasers for etching parts like reservoirs or curved glass panels.
