2pt turn - Turnabout sequence..
(Reverse parking or 90 degree reverse turn)
Outside view
• 2pt turn outside view
Position the car approximately 6ft away from cones
(If you are further away you will need to adjust your steering when backing in)
See the cone in your triangle window(corner pocket of window)
3 R's - Right signal, right turn the wheel all the way to the right, reverse the car
Back into space between cones until the vehicle is even or straight.
Then straighten the wheels (2 rotations).
Continue backing into space until behind cones.
Left signal, look both ways and proceed to the left out of the space.
Keep in mind that seat adjustment, size of vehicle, corner windows and cone space dimensions can affect this maneuver.
side note: this maneuver can also be considered a "K-turn".

The 2pt turn is typically done on the right for a road test. And this is technically not a "parking" manuever. It is basically a "K-turn". Here is a video on how to "park" in reverse. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o17Enol4d8umsKcsi=XiwLcE26AHAhhUKg If you are wanting to do the 2pt turn from the left, the best reference Ican give is to go approx 4ft away and out from the cone.

The steps on the video should work the same for your car and most sedans. Look for the cone in the corner of your corner window.

What’s the best spot to place your matching cone for a 2018 Toyota RAV4?
@DrivingInstructor-engage

Thanks for your question. With most SUVs you will have to see the cone and move forward 2-3inches. For a rav 4, you can see the cone in the corner window of your vehicle. You should be able to do a full 90 degree reverse because it's a smaller suv.

So with most SUVs, you will most likely have to see the cone in the corner of your backseat passenger window, then move forward approximately 2-3 inches. From there you should be able to perform the 2pt turn.

I see, this video is very helpful in the US. Just out of curiosity. Is this what you have to do on your driving test in the US? I mean the cones in an empty car park? The reason I'm asking is, because I can't see my self using this manoeuvre in real life. I mean, what if you don't have space after the last bay? What if there are no cones? What if the car is a different size? What if the bay is a different size? Just so I'm clear, I'm in no way criticysing, just curious. Thanks.

Thanks for watching and for your questions. So yes, this particular video is mainly for the US road examination in the state of GA and some southeastern states as well. In this video, I am explaining the 2 point reversing maneuver using cones. On the road test, the goal is to not hit cones and not stop more than 2 times. This is technically NOT a "parking" maneuver. It's a shortened variation of the "3 point" turn. Google 3pt turn and 2pt turns if you are not familiar with a point reversal turn maneuvers, it's basically a "broken U-Turn". I hope this answers your questions. I do have a video on "reverse parking into a parking space/bay" you can check out on my channel.

I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to anonymously send this video to my neighbor across the street. They don't know how to do turns. When they try to go in the other direction on the street, the make a giant U-turn and always drive on my grass. :(

Hi, yes it is slightly different when using an SUV, van, jeep, pickup truck, etc.. So, if you are using a SUV, firstly, you may have to adjust your vehicle slightly so you can be certain that the cones are visible from your point of view. Then you will use the same sequence as in the video, however you will begin with seeing the cone in the corner pocket of the "backseat" window, instead of corner window of a sedan. Then move forward approximately 2-3 inches. These adjustments should get you more in the proper position when executing the 2pt turn with an SUV. I hope this makes sense! If available try practicing the maneuver before attempting on road test. Good luck!

I have my 2nd road test tomorrow and I'm so nervous because this part failed me the first time. I had to do it on the driver's side and there were no reference points other than the cones. Nobody has tutorials on driver's side reversing and it sucks. I can do it in my own driveway and around other cars, but the cones mess me up so bad
@DrivingInstructor-engage
@DrivingInstructor-engage 2 ай бұрын
That's interesting you had to do the parking maneuvers on drivers side. Most states in the US perform 2pt from the passenger side on road examinations. I would say if you can eyeball about 4-5ft away from cones and approx 3ft ahead of cones you should be ok to perfrom the 90 degree reverse. I will create a video on that in the future, so be sure to check back with the channel. Good luck on your test!

Shouldn't the cones be closer together? For our road test, the cones are directly on the parking lines.
@DrivingInstructor-engage
@DrivingInstructor-engage 9 күн бұрын
Ignore the parking lines. The cones are not placed according to the lines. Parking lines are not used on road tests, only cones. Depending on where you take your road exam(at a DDS or a driving school), the cone space dimensions can differ. Usually, they're approximately 10ft x 15ft for a 2pt turn and 10 x 22 for a parallel parking space.

So if we’re doing the test in a SUV, the pole should be in the corner of the backseat window??
@DrivingInstructor-engage

Yes, and then move forward approximately 2-3 inches and then start (3 R's) Right signal, steer full right, reverse. I hope that's clear!

Is it the small window you’re referring to?
@DrivingInstructor-engage
@DrivingInstructor-engage 3 ай бұрын
So if you have an SUV and you have a small corner window you can see the cone out of, then use that window, but only if you can see the cone. If you cannot see the cone(as you probably won't in most SUVs), then use the corner of the "backseat window" to see the cone and then move forward 2-3onches. Does that make sense?
@chemeille
@chemeille 3 ай бұрын
No, what if I can see the pole and not the cone? Where exactly in the small window should you see the pole?
@DrivingInstructor-engage
@DrivingInstructor-engage 3 ай бұрын
Doesn't matter if it is a cone or pole, if you are taking your test at the DDS or a driving school, you should be using cones or "pole shaped" cones. If you can see the cone/pole in the corner window, you should see it in the very lower right hand corner window(corner pocket). OR if you cannot see the cone/pole, then use the lower right corner of your backseat window and then move forward 2-3 inches. Sometimes, you have to use this adjustment for an SUV. I hope this makes sense. I would suggest practicing the maneuver at the DDS when they are closed.

Is the cone supposed to be in the middle in the Conner window?
@DrivingInstructor-engage
@DrivingInstructor-engage 23 күн бұрын
For a 2pt turn, you should see the cone approximately more in bottom right corner of the corner window. Also be sure your car is approximately 3-4ft perpendicularly away from cones.

If the car you are driving has a sticker on the corner window, then you may approximately line up the sight of the cone to the sticker. If it does not have a sticker, then use the bottom right corner.
