I just told the truth. The business owner had made a series of very bad decisions and his business was going under so he fired a handful of people trying to save money to save the business. It didn't work, he went belly up 4 months later.

I hope you can help, I’m a 61 ur old server and was just let go after 9 years with glowing reviews, always 15 minutes early, great service reviews, top 10 in scores….. so what happened this week was some people I work with went to management and said I pinched or slapped their butt, it’s so weird and untrue I’m obviously hurt and confused but and pardon the pun, it’s corporate and as much as I don’t understand they are taking the young peoples word 😢 I did write a letter of thanks and gratitude about how much I’ll miss them because I truly will. How do I explain that one? I didn’t do it, but it’s she said she said 🤷‍♀️

It’s a no win situation. Online applications require you answer why you left and you can’t lie and you can’t explain either, so they just miss out on finding a great employee because of a bad former employer.

Hey don, so I was fired from my last job only after three months. I was working with my supervisor who expected me to learn almost everything by myself, though i was assured during the interview to get some training. Besides, i was also going through divorce and that might have affected my performance. I talked to my boss about the issue, but my supervisor convinced them to let me go. I have now an interview and i would love your tips on how to explain that.

I would remove that job off your resume since it was only 3 months. Why put energy into an explanation just remove it .

I had something similar to his client. I had a supervisor throw me under the bus for a mistake I made. He was covering for his own incompetence. I was blindsided and wasn't allowed to defend myself. Just two months before, I had an exceeds expectations review and the month before, the same person who fired me, sent me an email confirming my raise and stated that I was doing a good job. I saved that email and the performance review.

When I was fired because it was so ridiculous I asked her “Do you feel good about yourself?” “How do you sleep at night?” “This is wildly inappropriate!”

I'm going through a similar situation. "Not a good fit" goes both way, so it's an easy way to explain things. Just say that the job wasn't a good fit for the skills that you do have, and give some examples of what you'd prefer to do instead (especially if they are a part of the job for which you have applied).

Hey Don, how would I explain in a job application for being let go for" not being a good fit". My performance and relationship with my colleagues were great, but I had a toxic co-worker who was promoted to supervisor after a coworker retired. She lie to the controller about my job performance and was trying to pass on her work load on me & others. She finally got me fired. The company didn't have any other excuse, but to say I wasn't a good fit, with no explanation. What should I say in an interview. I a very personable person and have lots of experience in finance, & customer service, but have been holding a part time job since. I have not had luck in finding a steady job. This experience has been very traumatic, not to mentioned I don't know if ageism is beginning to affect me in the job search. Any recommendation will be greatly appreciated. I am schedule for an interview next week and this is hindering my possibilities in getting a new job. Thank you for you videos & the recommendations given.

So, I was recently let go from a position that I had been in for 7 months. I was performing exceptionally well. One day, I was in the process of onboarding a cleaning crew. Given the team spoke limited English, I took the initiative to translate the materials into Spanish to ensure that the training was effective. Personally, I was showing cultural sensitivity. Two days later, I was let go. I am baffled by how to explain that one!!! HELP!!!

I would say that it was a temp job since it was only 7 months. Don’t explain the details you proved here on an interview. And don’t use them as a reference.

I’m job hunting and I have felt the best thing to say is that you were laid off. I removed the city off my resume for my last job location. So that no one can call them for a reference. Thankfully I do have other references.

How do I explain I got let go of because I had an accident, being somewhere I had no supervisor permission being, caused damage to the company bus, and property damage? ANd this was the company I mostly have educational certificates from and the job role I truely love? Can I use them as a refference even?

Sir how do I let a employer know on my application or job interview, that I was fired for actually being unethical. Long story short my boss called me dumb, I told him that I wasn't gonna work for him anymore and his wife started yelling at me. I called her a b**** and he called me a b**** back and said he would love for me to be gone so I got my check and walked out. I was way out of line and don't want to lie. But I don't want it to ruin my chances of being hired. I was having a rough time and made a mistake.

What matters is if you have redeeming value that will compensate for being fired. That's just the way of the world and unless you are in politics chances are you will have a problem

I was fired, yet .....was given ALL of my accrued PTO...and holidays. To me... that spells wrongdoing!! In your experience...how common is that??

That's completely normal. You're entitled to your pto payout after you leave your employer, no matter the reason.

That's not what I've heard. While I was still with the company....I contacted HR, and asked if I were let go....would I receive any of that. The answer was no. I was let go...fired...dragged out by my ponytail due to falsehoods....and they knew it. When I applied for Unemployment...they never even sent them a reason why. They sent the page back to the case worker....blank. She told me that they did not have a legal leg to stand on at that point. Shady people....shady company. They eventually closed the doors...not long after...the shenanigans they pulled on me. It's a crazy world out there. Shame on them.@@kateygray6940
