I’ve been out of work for 20 years (I was defermated) it’s over now / I won my case (I have not pressed charges) trying to move on with my life (start new) I went to college (student aid) and now I am about to graduate - there is no way to sell my past without sounding negative. I am on a tuff spot. If this does not work out I fear I might die and be dead within a short time. My clock is ticking. Any help is helpful. I am watching your videos. Thanks - this was helpful.

8:20 "Most people shouldn't have to ask for a raise." You do realize that many employers do not voluntarily give raises, right? They give excuses as to why "they can't" and promise empty promotions or other worthless perks instead. Until there is a law that mandates a set percentage increase every year to keep up with inflation, employees must always be prepared to (and should) ask for a raise.

Dear Don thank you for your time and explanation for job. To be honest with you and all friends. There is some of Augustin dose not to be asked to employees. Because they don't make any sense. Just like any one he go shaping he knew what he want to get. Same thing if I'm looking for job that means I have to do my best because I needed the job. I'm sorry just something to say 🖐 thank you

This actually works. I’ve been a career counselor now for the book of my career, just shy of 20 years and I have gotten almost every single job I have interviewed for because at the end of it I always say. “ I just want you to know I really want this position. Will you give me a chance?”

The job I'm at now, that I also want to leave is bitter sweet. I love everyone. My boss is pretty great too. He doesn't. Micromanage, he's understanding, but he's cheap. He doesn't treat both trades the same and I don't think he k own he does it

On paper is truly who I am. Resume written by me, no AI and no false things or exaggerations. Not the best interviewee, but throwing the resume aside and basing next steps on interview alone just isn't right and not a true assessment of a candidate.

I say something along the lines of the incompatibility thing but say I won't illustrate further as it I believe it is unethical and unedifying for me to discuss relationships with another person who isn't there- besides we are talking about this new position, not a previous (not as blunt as that last bit but implied).

Years ago long time I wanted to apply for a government position in the same department my father once worked in until he retired / took big redundancy. My father helped me jazz up my CV and cover letter which we spent upwards of 8 hours perfecting. I landed an interview did well then got the call they wanted to talk to my references. Well one of them sabotaged me and they told me the person I picked was unhelpful and rude…. Anyways I didn’t land the job but I went to another place for assistance on obtaining work the lady there asked for my CV and within 30 secs took a big black sharpie and X out all the stuff I had put in there which my father told me to. She said I’m not trying to be rude but helped you write your CV and cover letters? I said my father did. She replies did he work for the government in the 1980s I said yes she said yeah no none of this is needed nor required no one has the time to read a war and peace sized CV they just want a few statements last three jobs and a contact number remove all this other crap. Long story short I did just that and boom I was hired.

I'm not sure how this would work in a panel interview. For example, the last job interview I had, the decision maker wasn't even there. The one prior to that, it was a panel interview, one was the hiring person and the other three were associates I would have been working with. The interviews before that, it didn't occur to me to ask because I hadn't found this video yet. So I guess my question is how would you approach asking during a panel interview where it's not the call of the majority of people present?

I'm thinking that is something I may prefer to have in a cover letter and be strict in letting the resume (CV in Europe) remain the historical documentation that cold could be verified in true or false (which you can't if I desire something about tomorrow but killed by a drunk driver today). But I have recently caved to my coach telling me to add some of objective of my ambition in the intro of my resume/CV so let's see how it goes. Part of me caving in is that employers often deny the coverletter because of what they say is of ambition of being non-discriminating. Which I don't understand at all how it relates, they could instruct to not reveal gender, ethnicity religion but of course they will figure I am old from the information about my employements and graduation year from my resume/CV.

If a job is posted on let's say the 1st of the month and the deadline to apply is the 20th, which would be better? To apply on the 1st or the 20th or somewhere in beetween? My feeling is that my resume would be remembered more if I submitted it on the deadline date.

I hired a guy once with my boss was out of town. People can be unpredictable. In 4 hours of training, this is what he did: -Showed up 10 minutes late. -Was whining about how he “felt like he’s in high school”. -He talked a woman out of a $70 purchase claiming our product was no good. -He continued whining. -He requested to be transferred to a different store in hopes of more money and hours. The next day, when my boss met him, he lasted two hours before getting fired.
