how to export svg from illustrator

In this video I will show you how to save an SVG, with a path in Illustrator. I created my SVG item, or it's just an icon, or an object.
It's actually a group. I created the circle in there and I created lines with the pen tool.
What I had done is I simply group them and try to export them as an SVG.
But, that didn't work because it didn't have a path. There's no path tag.
What you need to do to fix that, is you select your group item. You go to “Object, “Path” and “Outline Stroke”.
I just did that. And then you can save it as an SVG. And when you open the code for it, now it will have a path.
That's how you get a path from an SVG element or an SVG image icon from Illustrator.

You dont explain WHY you have to do this you just say "that didnt work"... what didnt work, you should go into more detail. I mean why was this video made. I export SVG all the time without expanding or outline and all the paths show up and work fine.
