This is Instructions on how to Grow Cucumbers Vertically in a Green House late into the growing season with aging plants that have grown very large. The key to extended growth is maintenance of your vines by cutting off all of the older leaves and diseased part of the plants. You can also trim off the suckers if you have too much bulk to your plants. By keeping the plants open so air can flow through you will reduce the risk of mildew and disease. Also with the decreasing daylight it is best to keep as much sunshine on the good leaves as possible.
Remember to continue pollination as there will be even less bees visiting your plants into the fall. So help them out with a paintbrush pollination method. Dab it on a few male blossoms and then when you have a noticeable dusting on the brush you can transfer it to the blooming female blossoms.
I know by the end of the season you may have grown tired of garden work, but it really is worth it as cucumbers like the cooler temps in the fall as well before the frost hits. Once your plants are exposed to a frost they will die. Then it is time to throw in the towel. You can clean it up for next year!
