No ethernet, no PROBLEM; here's how to send your wifi to another building even if its miles away! Get wifi signal to far away locations using a point to point (P2P) wifi bridge. Here's a UeeVii one (product links below) that I use for under $100 for a pair. This acts or "appears" like an ethernet cable to the devices on either end, no special setup or configuration is needed. In fact these come pre-configured as a pair and are literally "plug n play", just mount them and point them at each other and they will self connect. The max speed for these is 100mbps but unlike wifi "max speed" this 100mbps is very achievable in the real world since its the ethernet port that is the bottle neck, the wireless theoretical max is several hundred mbps. UeeVii provided the P2P Bridge for review.

Thank you. This will work for me. I only have about 75 feet between my house and shop. I think mounting one on the outside of the house and directing it to one on the outside of the shop will solve my wi-fi issues. I have power in both locations so the connections should work.

The fact that the router remains part of the AI Mesh is surprising, considering that you've used TP-Link to extend WiFi. I will do the same connecting the second house to the primary (also using ASUS routers I already have). And there is a good reason to use CAT 8 instead of lowers as the higher it is, the better insulation of the cables from electrical waves is. Thank you for the video! Just what I was looking for!

Nate, I just used an old(er) Netgear Router to "Bridge" with my main router on a guest network using WPA2 Encryption (would have preferred WPA3, but the secondary router would not let me do that). Now I can connect via ethernet to the secondary router (located on the other side of the house) LAN port and get 2.4GHz internet. I plan to get a PoE Access Point so I can get more coverage on the side of the house opposite the main router. I'm getting about 1/2 - 3/4 speed compared to the main router (Beryl Travel Router) on 5GHz which is not so bad since I'm getting between 250-300 Mbs on the main router. Took me 2 days, working out the IP configurations but I finally got it done. Thanks again for your help and guidance.

Nater Tater, I followed your recommendation to extend LAN/Internet to remote buildings too far for ethernet cable by using a wireless bridge. I needed to push Aimesh LAN to out building 391 feet from house with no obstruction so I used your solution of UeeVii CPE bridge. You claimed it connects automatically once connected without user input. Yes once the POEs are connected and channel matched for Master and Client, they connected within 2 minutes. But, did you forget to mention it requires user programming of the bridge units to connect the LAN? Mine (Win10) shows "hidden network" and no Internet due to invalid IP. I use DHCP on the routers and laptop. Do I need to change the two bridge IPs to a specific IP, then set a static IP on the router? How did you get your router to pass the LAN signal without re-configuring? (I use the same routers as you.)
@joepangean6770
@joepangean6770 Жыл бұрын
Follow up: I always new there was a simple solution but no one offered. I forgot that ethernet connections to router don't work as easily as WiFi. The router DHPC won't function unless booted after connection from an ethernet device. So every time I installed bridge I could only get "IP invalid". By chance I happened to re-boot the main mesh router, then it recognized the device and assigned an IP for the LAN. Now it works. The accepted speeds for this bridge is a drop of 80% at 200 feet. However I have clear line of sight, strong connection and get -95%. The problem I have is that I use the 1 Gbps port on the CPE 820 and Cat 7 cable both ends into two 1 Gbps ports on routers but only get 20 Mbps from 450 Mbps service. The router shows all devices connected to ports at 1 Gbps rate except for the CPE 820 which shows 100 Mbps. Anyone explain why the advertised 1 Gbps ports only connect as 100 Mbps regardless of physical port selected? (Router does supply 2.5 Gbps speed for ports.)

Well, ground took a lightening strike, conducted through ISP MoCA into house through modem then followed Ethernet cable to router. Damaged all my routers in Ai Mesh connected by Ethernet backhaul and destroyed all devices connected to main router on Ethernet, including Ethernet over Power adapters, security system and one PC. I now have Ethernet surge protectors and use wireless connections more. Your P2P system looks intriguing. What is the maximum range between points? Do you find signal disruption in severe weather like snow, high wind, heavy rain?
@NaterTater
@NaterTater 2 жыл бұрын
Max range is miles with clear line of sight. I havent had this pair in bad weather but dont notice an issue with my other pair. I have fairly short spans though so I wouldnt think I'd be sensitive to that.

Multiple routers is just stupid. you are double and triple NAT-ing your network if you set them up incorrectly by going into the WAN port on the router instead of the LAN and making sure to disable the DHCP on each router outside of the first one. What you need are switches and Access Points in your multiple buildings connected via your bridge units and ethernet/fiber. Also, your ethernet connection from the home to the barn is just asking for electrical problems based on different grounding. Fiber would have been a better option and the cost between them is minimal.
@NaterTater
@NaterTater 13 күн бұрын
@rgblack316 thanks for sharing your thoughts. This setup is an AiMesh that utilizes routers but they act as AP's and thus aren't doing NAT. I have also switched to a TP-Link Omada setup which is also a full SDN.
