Hello Linus, a better way to extend a wireless signal is tplink powerline to WiFi devices. In the Bahamas the building code is different than the U.S. and there is a lot of concrete and steel so signal falls off faster so if have a large home or home with more than one floor WiFi extenders across the home or on another floor pose a lot of complications. What I started doing years ago was using tplink WiFi over powerline. It uses the powerline as it would Ethernet connection, and you can add the WiFi transmitters thathas ethernet connections around the home where needed; also there are models with gigabit connection through the powerline. I’ve overcame many challenges over using WiFi extenders of any sort or having Ethernet cables ran for wired ap’s. Less callbacks for wireless and quick setups even with updates once all devices are connected I connect to the network and flash each device.
@fungo66312 жыл бұрын
God please don't use that powerline trash! It just spews out tons of RF interference!

Real solution for most people in most situations: If you can run an ethernet cable, get a cheap wifi access point (AP). If you can't, $60-150 for a powerline access point. Avoid the all-wireless wifi extenders. You can run multiple APs (ethernet or powerline) if you have multiple dead spots, but at a certain point, look into mesh or a wired ubiquity setup.

well if you change the antenna to one with higher gain (like the patch) you are also increasing your EIRP so to keep it legal you would need to turn down transmission power. and thus you are back to square one. But when your phone is transmitting the router would have a higher sensitivity and thus better connection. Side note: you would have less interference from sources in the lower gain directions which could help also.

First whenever PHD Robert Metcalfe "The Father of Ethernet" (inside joke) and I use to to talk about the most reliable way to connect a computer to a network. Wired was, and always will be the best. So when you talk to people, please advise them whenever possible to run a physical connection to the computer, or device. As "Doctor Bob" use to always say "Reliability!, Reliability!, Reliability!". Does not matter how fast the connection speed is on paper if it is not reliable. Since we no this can not always be done for me my next investment to replace my existing Netgear Orbi mesh system in our very large house is going to be a Netgear Orbi WiFI 6e system after it is out for some time, and hoping the price will come down. Next the biggest factor is placement. Think of the broadcast signal as a big bagel(-)(-) when looking for the side. Now the best place to put your WiFI router if you only have one is in the most central spot in the house you can, and NOT down on something lick an end table, or under a desk. If you can place it more than half way up the wall. WiFI extenders suck period. The cost has come down so far on KISS WiFI mess setups that if you need one now, and can not wait read the reviews. I always like to check places like C|net and Wirecutter.

Hate to be that guy, but Bluetooth isn't actually a major problem interference-wise as far as WiFi goes due to the frequency hopping built into the protocol. So ... where is the CHEAP option you mention in the title???? Video without any cheap solutions. Question to people who liked it. Why do you think this video is good? Did it deliver??? PS. Yes i do watch Linus, he got good presentation, and information levels. Here is my advice. Use your old router to extend your network. Yes it needs wires. But its the cheapest way. :)

Cheap Chinese wifi extender. These mugs are so lazy, they haven't even bothered putting their own name on it, just sell it exactly as it's produced in China. You can buy the exact same thing from Aliexpress for a tenner. Oh, and it doesn't work, all false claims.

Is there anything you can do on the recipient end? Trying to get better signal strength with my desktop without using extenders or things like that. Would getting a better or high gain antenna work? I just have the little ears sticking out the back of my case. Would a high gain antenna even gain me signal strength becauseit's being recieved and not going out? Or should I just get an extension so I can relocate antenna? Any help would be appreciated. I've already put like 60 bucks into making this area of my build work. So a repeater or things of that sort are out of the question.

Can't I, for example, use openwrt for transmit power control? to set it further than 100% ?

Get a router that supports OpenWRT and has electronics that can handle overclocking. I remember doing this to some good 'ol blue linksys router (on 2.4G) a couple of years ago. And Baconcheeseburger, please.

What about wifi antenna extension cable?

That is not even close. Symbol rate is based Modulation and encoding and error correction happens on the receive end. The second part is special multiple access. IE we are all sharing the same frequency and bandwidth. The guard band is no a symbol sequence it is a frequency band. What you described is a null sequence. Linus, I can’t keep pointing these mistakes out. So disappointed ☹️.

I mean... there is another factor here. If you have the strongest router in the world and it can send data a quarter mile away, that's great! ... but if the wifi in your phone/device isn't able to reach out to the router to *request* that data, then it's mostly useless. Imagine two people shouting to each other across a valley. Your badass router is guy #1 with a megaphone, but if guy #2 (your phone) can't shout loud enough for guy #1 to hear, then they still can't have a conversation.

Anybody know why my secondary router (in ap mode) has very slow download speeds but normal upload speeds? I've tried multiple routers and they're all slow, I've checked and rechecked the wiring, the qos on the primary router is off. Any tips would be great. I am a noob at this stuff, so keep that in mind

Mesh routers are too expensive. I just prefer attaching another cheap WiFi router via Ethernet cable.

Did that video actually go anywhere? Or suggest anything useful (other than buy a patch antenna?) Was definitely expecting more from that (Googles how to overclock/overpower wifi)

Linus. If you want to shill for Ridge Wallet, at least pretend to use one. Pulling out a giant wallet and offer it to Brandon made me sad. Please don't advertise/recommend products that are not good enough for yourself. It will be difficult for me to trust you after this :-(

Why didn't you just say the further you get away from the source the greater the bit error rate, effectivly saying the reciever has to ask more often for the packet to be re-sent because of the degraded signal? LMAO...love the baby monitor picture....

OK so which part is the 'on the CHEAP'-part?

You shouldn't have to extend it. You're paying for wifi on ur property, it should cover your whole property.
