How To Eyeswap Your American Girl Doll!

A ton of people on Instagram have been asking me about eyeswaps lately, so I decided to make a video tutorial! It's not the best, but let me say, it is really hard to concentrate on doing a successful eyeswap AND film a good video. I hope it can help some people. And yes, I just got Violet/53! I met up with aglovestudiox at an AGP :D
IMPORTANT Eyeswaps are hard, and they take a lot of practice. It is very possible to damage the eyes, the eyelids, or you doll's face, so please take caution! Don't attempt an eyeswap unless you are confident you can do it and have permission.
Note: The audio is a little weird in this video due to KZbin's unfair copyright claim policy. (There is some music that randomly stops and starts throughout the video.)

Eyes: The grey eyes I got were from gagasdolls on eBay!

I took out tm 37 (green eyes) and put them on Caroline, then I took Caroline's eyes (aqua blue) and put them on grace and I took Grace's eyes (blue) and put them on tm 37! Now tm 37 has blue eyes, Caroline has green eyes and grace has aqua blue eyes!! This video helped a lot! Nothing went wrong!!! Thanks😘😊😊😊😊😊

TheGamingGirl TGG I know,but they're really expensive and I'm afraid of ruining them. Besides, what if you CAN'T get the head back in. I'm only 10. My fingers are smaller and not as strong. Once I had so much trouble I had to have my mom do it. That was on a doll that my cousin gave to me. I'd never do that on my dolls.

AG Rainbow Studios i don't think you are weird or anything. I wouldn't suggest that you take your doll's head off if you don't need to. As you said they are very expensive and i think you are still young to try the head or eyes swap for the reason of business and selling the dolls or such. So, with all said, you are not weird at all. I think it's great to take care of your doll as much as you can. : )

Thank you for making this video! Yours is the best. I can see where 'digging' the eye in a bit helps to pop it in faster. It also leaves the metal encasement right at hand so you can push it back w/ the tweezers.. best eye swap video on KZbin! :)

+AGTriviaMaster You're most welcome.. let me ask you this.. do you find that putting eyes back in Pre Mattel / Pleasant Co eyes are a bit more difficult because the vinyl is so much softer to start with / before you head the head? I have had a realy time with those.. it was harder to do because the vinyl was sooooo much softer.. a real nightmare for me.

Thanks for this video. I've watched several, and yours seemed to the most logical and safe. I needed to pop an eye out for repair. One of the little plastic pegs that hold the eyeball and allow it to rotate had broken off, causing her eye to fall out of place and not stay open. I was able to glue it back on with a tiny drop of super glue. Thanks to your clear instructions, I was able to repair it and get it back in place and her eye works perfectly now.

Yes you can :) I was swapping eyes with a PC doll I got at a thrift store and I was almost scared it was fake because the head was different, but it softens up.

Wonder if a cellphone pry tool will work on adjusting the eyes. I thought of that as a metallic tool has the risk of chipping the paint or plastic off the eyeballs. To think that installing a processor on a computer is nerve-wracking as bending the pins is risky. I am a computer technician by trade and am no stranger to taking things apart, but it does help to be familiar with something such as this when you collect dolls and such.

Question: with putting such hot water into the head, do you ever worry about the wig coming off....like the heat melting the glue on the cap? Cool tip videos, thanks for sharing :) edit: I may be showing my age here, but Grace looks AWESOME with dark eyes....she reminds me a lot of Punky Brewster!

+JessyBee1313 I've only had the wig fall off once, but that was because I already taken off and reglued the wig. AG uses really powerful glue, so I don't think the wig would come off easily.

Its not that easy actually, trust me ive done this exact thing and although this girl is skilled (good for you thats very awesome actually i wish you could do it for me) its very VERY difficult ive scratched the eyes of many dolls trying to get it in and its SUPER HARD PUTTING THE DOLLS EYES BACK IN seriously you have to be SUPER STRONG my friend and i couldnt even do it we had to get my dads help and even he had trouble honestly do NOT DO THIS UNLESS U WANT SCRATCHED EYES SERIOUSLY and just send it in to the hospital my scratched up marie grace and her samatha are not worth it

Can you do this on different facemolds? I have a Kaia and a Lanie I want to eyeswap but they have different facemolds... Is it still possible?

Yep! The molds don't change the swap except that some molds are easier to do than others. Most people do care about skin tone, though. Kaya and Lanie have different skin tones, so if you don't paint over their lids, the eyes and the rest of the doll won't match.

This video helped a lot! I ended up not being strong enough to pop out the eyes so I fixed the eyes because they where a little lopsided. After awhile I notice Isabelle's face mood looked a little different, like one side of her face was like swollen, not swollen because she's a doll, I mean bigger. I tried pushing on it to make it go down but it would just pop back out. Do you have any suggestions on fixing it?

Music_Lights the water doesn't get into the eyes because the eyes are in their own separate socket thingies that guard the eyes from the inside of the head, if that makes sense. if you have dolls with neck strings and you're comfortable taking off a doll head to peek inside, you could do that since my description is pretty bad lol

If you are in the middle of the process when you are putting the eyes in and if the head hardens, and when you pour the hot water in the dolls head when they have no eyes on, will the water leak through and cause any damages on their paint and hair?

When you do the eyeswaps, do the eyes stay in place or do they move a little. I can kinda move the doll eye left to right , also were you able to see directly into the sockets like was there a more open space that Normal?
