Just stumbled on your excellent video as I was looking to extend the Wi-Fi signal from an inadequate TP-link router. I found the old Sky router, dusted it off and thanks to you and your clear instructions (in the comments) I have house wide internet. 😀👍👏👏

Routers can't tell search keywords. At most they might know the domains you visit but would get lost on power cycle. Sky may be doing logging or inspection "in the cloud" within their network.

I don't understand the question. There isn't such a thing as "search history stored on the Sky Hub". Can you post a screenshot of the page you think needs clearing. Or if you don't want it cleared and wonder if a factory reset will delete something important, describe how you get to that important page or information.

@@freename I recently switched over to Vodafone from Sky, I still have the Sky Router, but want to access the router control panel before returning the hardware back. Can I still do that even though im not with sky broadband anymore?

@@lovejetfuel4071 Yes. Plug it into power only.. then use a computer or possibly a phone or tablet (use a computer where possible) to connect to the router -= while you won't have working internet through the router you will still be able to load its admin interface at 192.168.0.1

@@freename Hi, well I tried the instruction you gave but it didnt work (I might be doing something wrong), this is what I did, pluged in the power cable, had my wifi on (on my pc) then connected an ethernet cable from the yellow port on the back of the router to the ethernet port on the back of the pc, then put in the ip address in the browser, but I could not connect to the router. Any suggestions?

Hi, thanks for the video. You are right about the colours - didn't notice any change. Looks like the unit has had a factory reset at some stage - my password didn't work but the default did.

It is very easy to do on those routers. No recessed button and people are keen on factory resets for little reason.

hello! i have tried this but it still won't reset? i have followed the amount of seconds you suggested ( and even longer ) but my sky router won't factory reset, it just reboots and never flashesh the lights? i have asked on the sky forum but noones seems to know the fix and a lot of people are experiencing the same issue with this router (i have the exact same model) any suggestion?

Yes, that's what I do in the video. No phone line lead is connected, just the network cable to a computer

Yes. Set the IP to something that isn't in use (e.g. don't leave it on 192.168.0.1 where it will collide with the other router). Set the wifi details to whatever you want. Turn off IPv6. Turn off DHCP. Plug the LAN to LAN using a network cable between the two routers and you should be good to go!

Sounds like a phone line fault. Does the phone line still work ok for phone calls? (And if so is it silent or making noise or crackles?)

I think that usually means that it is struggling to communicate over the telephone line to the equipment in the exchange or cabinet. Usually if the telephone line isn't working or is crackling then the internet will have problems as well. If the phone line is ok and only your internet is broken you probably need to speak to sky and ask them to run a line check and also to go through your wiring to make sure you have the correct wires and ADSL filters (the little white boxes that plug into the phone socket) setup.

Goes back to all the settings how it was when you took it out of the box. If you've set a password or changed a setting which has broken something - factory resetting should put it back to working defaults with no custom configuration.

​@@m9_yym568 Do you still have phone service down the phone line, or does your phone plug into the back of the router? It's likely your phone line is crackling - you would be able to tell this if you try to make a call if you are using the old style phone plugged into the phone socket and listening for crackles or other unusual noises on the line. If you have "digital voice" where the phone plugs into the route then you won't be able to perform this test.

dude, i want to use my sky router for my vodafone broadband. I have the Vodafone ISP authentication details but I can't figure out, where in the Sky HUb settings, I can put them. would you have any idea?

That won't be possible. Same with the Vodafone router and BT hub. They lock the authentication so you can't use the router on another providers network. Also sky is likely routed ethernet where as Vodafone will be PPPoE

@@freename well apparently, When you have a sky router/hub, connected to your sky Q box, it allows the sky Q box and mini boxes to act as WiFi hot spots. So I was attempting to make more use of my sky setup and boost my WiFi signal around my house rather than buy an aftermarket option.

Workaround: Turn IPv6 off on the Sky Hub, Turn DHCP Server off on the Sky Hub, edit the LAN IP to be something you know isn't "colliding" with your new router and IP range. Plug the LAN port of your Sky hub into a LAN port on your new router. I've got two setups like this and they seem to work ok. Power cycle the Sky TV boxes and any Sky Q repeaters you have - and, if they fail to connect, follow the connection process by pressing the sync buttons. If syncing fails several times in a row - wait at least 5 minutes before trying again. (If you don't reboot stuff they tend to just error or fail to see internet even though it should be working). Once the initial setup is working - problems only crop up when someone presses the factory reset button on the Sky hub and it goes back into trying to control the network. Good luck!

Plug router in to power, plug router into phone socket. Works. (As long as you have Sky Broadband on the telephone line).
