the only control you have over finding high runes is your level...its level based...95 up unlocks all runes...80-90 will unlock up to a certain amount and those chances increase as well if there are more players in the game...thats all i know

i found both of my ohm runes in the past 2 weeks at level 85 and 88 both in ancient tunnels..first one was from rats nest than the other from a urn...i suppose for me ill just run that a lot and click everything lol

@@kickassandchewbubblegum639 It's area level based, not level based. The highest ilvl rune is a Zod with item level 69. "Champion and Unique monsters have monster levels and drop items with item levels of +2 and +3 of their area's level, respectively. Super Unique monsters have their own special monster levels and drop items with item levels independent of their area's level." This means a Zod rune can drop from any monster or area above level 66. The chances for higher level runes obviously increases if the area level is higher.

@@kickassandchewbubblegum639 Actually it kinda depends on how many other runes have dropped on a server. Don't know the exact numbers, but if I'm not mistaken, 1 million El runes have to be dropped on one server before a Zod can drop. So for example, if 100 people are playing on one server and each person gets 10.000 El runes dropped, one of those players will see a Zod drop next and then the counter starts over again. This is purely a simple example on the rune drops, every player and rune that drops get calculated behind the screens with certain runes dropping after a certain amount of other runes have dropped. I think there are more calculation behind it, like how fast people are killing monsters etc. Play enough and you should see every rune drop eventually. It's mostly a matter of time, the more time you play, the higher the chances are of you finding high runes. Count yourself, extremely lucky if you only play for 2 hours a day and find yourself a high rune. People who have multiple high runes, within or after a month are playing many hours a day or have been lucky with certain drops and get them through trading. As a example of that, I found a Shako in my first Hell game on my way towards Andarial and I found a Sorc Lightning Skiller with +27 life the day after. Traded the skiller for a HR and got myself a Torch afterwards. Being a huge flip for me, as I'm not playing a Sorceress and I won't be making a Lightning Sorceress in the future either anyway. Haven't been very lucky on the runes so far though, after 4 days of playing my Highest rune is a Lem rune from my Hell Hellforge quest. But it's just a matter of time, before I can make myself a Enigma and other expensive runewords as it has always been. Played the game for about 12 years, with some breaks of a week or a couple weeks in between, back in the day and have seen every single rune drop multiple times (online) while playing solo.

cool little note about the loading screens, especially in act 3, you can start walking, even before you can see your character, so if you're super familiar with the map layout, you can click in the appropriate spot on the screen, and walk your character up toward the waypoint, can save a few seconds per run

When doing lower kurast, remember to pop weapon rack in the hut and armor rack. Doing that over thousand runs will yield some nice rw bases, especially paladin shields.

depends. rack loot is weird. in SP you'll find that the drops are tied to the map seed, but also the direction you approach from and the nearby mobs will influence the drop table. overall, after a dozen or so test runs you can figure out all the possible items a rack is going to drop. if you're after a specific base you'll roll map seeds for a good rack. if you want high runes you roll map seeds for good super chest locations. you don't normally do both.

I kind of like how the loot hierarchy goes. And how it goes hand in hand with your character's power. Like I got my character to be strong enough to solo all of Hell Barely. So i sacrificed a lot of power for MF gear and now i can do nightmare runs quickly with 370% MF. This lets me farm for uniques and stuff that can help my character get to the point where he can Easily kill hell difficulty, so i can wear all of the strong items i find to help me farm later Acts in Hell for high runes, which lets me then make the runeword items that let me do MF runs on hell to find the holy grail items. it's a long journey and it is very rewarding, if a little cryptic in nature, and i much prefer it to diablo 3s Rush to 70 then Spam the fuck out of rifts until you die of dysentery.

Single player: LK on p7, then Trav on p3, then Cows on p5. In this order. Cows are quite far behind, but still way ahead of other areas, because they drop from "Good" category (runes, gems, jewels, amulets, rings, etc.) 50% more often. So not only it's a great density, but also 1.5x the chance per each monster. Chaos is also good due to high density and large number of wraiths, that drop runes 3.0 to 3.7x more frequently than an average monsters (depends on p1/p3/p5/p7 settings - the higher the bigger the difference). Online: Travincal. Trav obviously with a hork barb.

TC Runes 17 have nothing to do with gems, jewels or amulets, as the name says it's runes treasure class. You farm trav/cows/sanctuary just because cows, council and wraiths have less treasure classes that can drop from them, hence higher chance to drop TC Runes 17. P3 for trav is optional (just farm at the level that is fastest and your merc doesn't die to hydras), super uniques have the same no drop chance regardless of players setting, you'll get bonus loot only from white monsters. LK works completely different, there are 65500 different combinations of items in a superchest on p7, you roll 1 of them, in 3 of those 65500 there are bers, in 11 there are surs and in 2 there are los. You'll get a ber from a superchest in LK in roughly 3/65500~=1/21800 tries; assuming you have good LK map and figured out loading screens, you'll open a chest per 10 seconds (6 chests in a minute long run) that is going to take an average of 60 hours of opening chests to get one ber. Average of 300 hours of opening chests for 5 of them. After getting 5 bers from LK the intensity of rune farming goes way down. Assuming you'll get the most common runewords (hoto, grief, cta) while farming those 5 bers, crafting infinity and enigma will suffice for a very long time (you absolutely won't need any more runes for anything but a fun build, or a coh, which can be easily replaced) and you will not want to farm LK/cows for a very long time after that. Maybe after like a year or so you'll get a crazy idea of getting botd or coh.

@@jakubdutkiewicz5816 The first sentence of yours is flat out wrong. No monster in the game (besides Countess) has a different Runes 17 chances, everything in the "Good" category is always the same. Treasure classes have nothing to do with it. It's all about"Good" category and how often can you roll it. For an average TC87, regular monster, it's 2 out of 160. Sum of probabilities for Cows is also 160, but the chance for hitting Good category is 3, so it's 50% more. Council has a totally different distribution, but the chance gets even better. P3 for trav is not optional, it is the best in 99% cases, period. Your calculation for hitting the Ber in LK is also wrong, because you forgot to take Surs into consideration. @@MatiKosa Both act 5 hell good TC and runes 17 TC are treasure classes. I understand that you need to go trough a5hg TC to get Runes 16 or Runes 17 TC, but what we're interested in are the Runes TC. There's absolutely no need to overcomplicate things and think about intermediate TCs. Cows drop 50% more runes, period. As for Trav, why would you ever say that p3 is not optional. If your merc dies on p3 (say you're running as infinity light sorc) and it takes twice as long to do p3 as p1 (on average) is it still better to run p3. Or if you for some reason one shot everything in p7 is it still better to run p3? Do you realize all council members drop from the same loot entry and the only thing you're modyfing is nodrop odds for white council mobs? Arbitrarily saying that p3 is obligatory is wrong. As for the sources, none of them is for d2r, 18 seconds LK with current loading screens is pure abstraction. You don't even go to act 4 when doing LK in d2r.

@@jakubdutkiewicz5816 You are overcomplicating things by splitting everything into detailed treasure classes, which doesn't matter. When hunting for runes, you only look for one of them: Good. And that's it. The distribution inside "Good" is always the same, sometimes it may be Runes 16 instead of 17 (see Trav), but the ratios are the same. Cows don't only drop 50% more runes, they drop 50% more from Good category and that is the correct interpretation, Runes are only one of the elements inside. You will be also getting 50% rings, amus, jewels, charms, etc. There is no monster in the game besides countess that will specifically drop more from Runes category, period. As for Trav, I am obviously referring to LoD, but even in D2R, same math apply. You clearly know something and have read something, but probably not deeply enough if you are questioning the p3 setting. I am not gonna go into massive details, but just some highlights for you for Trav: - p3 provides 37.5% more drops from Good category (and therefore...Runes 16) - p5 provides only 8.1% more vs p3 - p7 provides only 2.7% more vs p5 The thing is: if you can't beat Trav profitably on p3, then I am not sure if it is even worth your time, usually LK will be better, but yeah, in D2R the loading screen might completely ruin the math. Worth noting is, that when you are using hork with a Barb, it always ignores the no drop, so while you kill with p3 (very small NoDrop), you hork with 0 NoDrop. I have all the number and stats, but it would take 3 times as much text to clarify that. Just wanted you to know that I have already gone through all of the numbers left and right long time ago in Excel :) Anyways, I highly suggest moving to Project Diablo 2 :)

I can't take credit for this but another bonus tip for the chaos seal pop is if you drop a tp near some mobs, it will keep them aggro'd as well so they will also drop loot when you pop the last seal. Good use for this is if there are a lot of mobs in the other two seal locations that you ignore, drop a tp. You most likely won't teleport to the other seal locations on your way back to popping the last seal since they're out of the way but the tp will ensure those mobs drop loot too

You forgot to hork Travincal with the barb. It's recommended to use find item as it has roughly 50% chance of finding items which will increase the efficiency at which you'll find items. Heart Carver and/or Blade of Ali Baba are good weapons to have on swap for horking. Dual Heart Carver is usually enough to have on swap for horking without spending any hard points into Find Item.

Another spot that I've found quite nice is the River of Flame (chests and super chests). I did ~250 runs over the past 2 days on single player, players 8, with an optimal super chest tile location near the waypoint, and I found an Ohm, Cham, some Puls, Ist, Um, Mal, some nice SCs and sklilers, a BK ring, and a fire facet in just that time. I pop the skulls / stashes on the way to the super chests and also kill boss packs I find. Most good drops actually come from the skulls / stashes rather than super chests. Runs take between 25 and 60 seconds depending on mob spawns with no teleport (Hammerdin with vigor). I know it's probably less efficient than doing LK, but I've done enough of those for now... Cheers!

So far the best runes I looted were found while killing Andariel. Andariel itself dropped Mal rune but also some random monster next to her dropped Ohm rune. I also got once a Ber rune from Soul at Throne of Destruction and someone managed to pick there Sur rune recently.

To respond to your comment about hell forge rushing, I'm going to do a bit of math here: - The odds of dropping a Vex off a minion in Trav by yourself is about 1:43469 (it's a little under half has rare to get Gul). - There are about 10 council members (I just did a quick check; not sure if this is random or what the max number would be) - The odds of dropping a Pul or higher off a Hell Forge is 1:2.2 (lets just say you only get puls which is 1:11) - A Trav run with a character that's okay at it is 1 minute (with load times) - A rush through Hell takes an hour (including waiting for a person to join...you can even group rush but we'll just assume you're doing it one at a time) Lets say you did you find a Vex every 2,000 Trav runs which take a minute each. That would take you 33 hours to find a Vex. If you find find 32 PUL runes (only assuming Puls) off of Forge, that would be 32 hours. 64 hours, for an Ohm, etc. And I'm being pretty generous for Travincal here... I still think it's more time-efficient for a good character to rush for forges especially considering you're playing against the odds on EACH Travincal but you're more than 50% to get at least a lem rune for the Hell Forge (unless you're rushing an asshole).

For the CS seal pop you can drop a TP and the game treats it as a player. You can just round up a bunch of mobs on your way to the seals and drop the tp, then no backtracking is required.

I've been playing since release. Highest I've ever looted was a Pul rune (seriously) I've done hellforge on hell on five characters and have never looted any higher. Trade is almost impossible now as everyone seems to have insane luck but me and wants the world for their items. As much as I love the game? Seriously considering quitting. Conclusion: If you want to get high runes, you have to farm the same areas over and over again for hours and hours and it's not guaranteed that you find anything because the drop chances of high runes are ridiculously low.

Mostly I’m just looking for stuff to trade just to get some HR but all he drops for me is low level unique gear that’s good for starting characters.

I just found a Lo in Terrorized Jail 3 and a Vex in Chaos in a private Players 1 game. I'm convinced they increased the drop rates for D2R, having played both LoD and D2R. Makes sense since they cut the Ladder time in half.

Get a trapsin, you don't need goodly gear at all!!! Farm canyon of the magi>chaos sanctuary>eldritch/shenk>pindle. You can reach those spots fast and do it over and over again. You will find high runes and nice stuff. Ds+fb+MB = absolute killer. 0 worries about immunities. Get your merc an elite polearm insight and that's it.

I have 2 cta. It’s just an ohm. U can trade Keysets for mal. Organs for ist or unid torch for vex. Two vex makes a ohm. There you go. I’d make a hoto first though. Enigma is a waste I’m lvl 94 and have everything in the game. No need for teleport. River chaos is literally the only place you want to farm and teleporting past monsters doesn’t get you the kills

I'm currently doing a lot of Lower Kurast and prefer staying in act 3 over act 4 but it sucks without faster run/walk as Kurast Docks is quite a long walk. So random +run walk speed gear and a Harmony bow weapon swap really speeds things up, it's only a couple of seconds but Kurast runs has a very short cycle between resets so it adds up quickly. The main reason for me though is the psychological experience of it, slowly jogging through Kurast docks 1-2 times per minute feels like torture and you don't want that when grinding for hours.

i learned in one older video from you about the seal trick - and im using it alot now in D2R Just what i learned: Number of Players is VERY important there, you kill all mobs for free, so its not much harder in 8players, but the drops are much better. Also, for me, the other free seal is for me easier to open last, because the pitlords swarm sometimes the seal and you cant open it (i play without telekinesis). Last point, its often not the best thing to teleport to the start of cs if you dont clean the areas around the seals - they also have many monsters and you safe alot of time. For anyone interested, i do CS with a Zerk barb - faster than anyone else :P Good Video! :)

How to get high runes in some steps: 1. Kill as many enemies per second as humanly possible. 2. Do this for as many hours as humanly possible. 3. Don't relieve your bowels, forsake bathing and socializing to do 200 more runs. 4. ???? (Repeat lower kurast until your brain freaking melts and you hate yourself and everyone around you) 5. If you are trying to cube up runes from Countess runs... to get from Ist to Jah requires 2,187 Ist runes. Good luck! If you can get an Ist rune every half hour of farming, that's a little over a thousand hours of farming to get there.

To me it feels like a catch22 problem. I just read an article about why Jah rune gets worth more than Ber later on in the ladder season. The argument was that on starting of a new ladder most people try to get their Enis and Infinity as quick as possible, so later on they don't need Bers that much anymore. What do you mean by "in the beginning"? It is so unlikely to find a Ber or Jah rune EVER. How do you do this "in the beginning getting them quickly"??? Many times I see videos like the above. "Just give your Merc Kira's Guardian and Forti, and he will be good. Then use a sorc for tele, and just give her some basic Tal set and Infinity, and your good to go." Great, so when I start a new character, I get tons of Isenharts set pieces, and that is it. A bit later on I am swamped with Sigons. How do you do this "Just give her full Tal Set and Infinity". It feels like many people are born with end game items. I don't get how. My situation always looks like this: It takes me about a day or 2 to get through Normal and Nightmare, and then on Hell I simply die, because I don't have any good items. Then I use my Sorc, who has nothing at all, pierced full of Topazes to do tons of Nightmare Meph-Runs. Then finally I may find some Oculus or Viper, and am slowly able to survive on Hell. I wonder if there is some shortcut, like "Open the hidden Stash full of rare high level unique items and a handful of HRs for starters that is hidden behind a tree in the Bloodmoor on Normal."

My tip for getting high runes - play fire sorc, get maphack, run key runes, get 3x3 set, do ubers with budged smiter, sell unind charm, get vex for it. Roughly will take 1.5h

I found a vex an um and a Sur within a few hours of eachother while farming keys from the summoner in Arcane Sanctuary. They all dropped from the super chests at the dead ends of AS. I haven't found one off a ghost yet.. Ive seen Ber drop in AS before and from what I've heard up to Zod can drop in AS. Its my favorite spot to farm on my sorc because even if you don't find any runes odds are you'll find a Key of Hate every 10-15 runs.

You still have the same chance for uniques but rune farming will be slower yes. I have dropped a Lo and 2 Sur live on twitch farming p1. Stick with it dont give up

Farming CS yielded in the ~4 weeks of D2R a Zod and a Sur for me and I didn't even ran CS that often. Definitely a good spot even when playing alone in bnet. Also Catacombs in Act1 were good to me. Had quite a few Mal, Gul and Lo dropping from monsters and chests there. I think that it's generally worth clearing the levels in Act1 from Jail onwards if you are specifically looking for runes. There are plenty of ghosts (wraiths) in those levels that have slightly higher odds to drop HRs.

If u have a clan,the best way is Forge,since u can rush easy 7 guys same time with proper build/gear :) if you have friends that support you for this kind of farm and play a day for this purpose u can grab 70 Forge quests in 10 hours. And 70 runes of (um / gul / mal) in a day is JackPot

I think the reason some people do hell forge runs is because it's a guaranteed rune drop, and in D2 there's basically no such thing as a guaranteed rune drop. That's why people do it, even though it doesn't actually make sense as you said, Dbrunski. Most players just aren't willing to grind/farm the runes and so they want an easy way out. There is none.
