for some reason i dont like freezing or microwaving my iguanas veggies. i always serve it fresh..
@aubreygoebel35137 жыл бұрын
I dont think you should! cooking above 130 degrees or freezing kills the enzymes in the plants( plants are alive, as if youd cook a human theyd die) more natural energy for em!!!

Aubrey Goebel i think when you freeze and cook the veggies it get watery....

I freeze my iguana food but I do not heat it to thaw it. Cooking it kills the nutrients more than anything.

I always fed mine fresh greens, and fresh veggies. I also bought frozen mixed veggies which I steamed and cooled for him.

I never froze my iguanas greens or veggies either, always served it fresh. However, I did buy a bag of frozen peas or green beans and steamed them for him.

anything from the brassica family such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and kale are bad for them as well.

They can't eat anything from the cabbage family either like kale, cauliflower, broccoli, brusselsprouts or bok choy and chinese cabbage. Onions and tomatoes are not good for them either.

This was an excellent video! I'm getting an iguana soon and was hesitant due to their diet (I only ever buy frozen veggies for myself so I'm not at the grocery store every week), I'm happy to see that buying fresh then freezing is an option!
@theyellowtaco4167 жыл бұрын
Lady Jade you shouldn't freeze the veggies and then microwave them it takes away all the enzymes in the veggies and that's not good

I just gave my 10 year old female iggy a bowl of collards, turnip and mustard greens with some green beans chopped up. she'll get a banana or mango treat later in the day. I can't find dandelion greens or cactus leaves at any local grocery stores where I live. I think I'll grow some dandelions this summer in pots.
@rolando20212 жыл бұрын
You can use good quality alfalfa rabbit food either crushed or shredded. I prefer fresh veggies and greens. As far as papaya goes, yes I think that it would be a great treat! Just remember Greens 40-45%, other veggies 40-45%, and fruit 10% or less a week.

I'm going to try freezing some veggies. Cause it goes bad in frig to fast. If they don't like it. Then back to toss salads and fresh veggies.

Did you use this type of feeding system when killer was small like a hatchling or juvenile? And how long should the staple greens and veggies be refrigerated for?
@rolando20211 жыл бұрын
After coming out of the Microwave all the veggies are soft and cooked. You can cut the harder veggies smaller to make it easier for them.

Hey, doesn't freezing the Greens, and Veggies remove all the Vitamins & Minerals, rendering them no good? I wanna try freezing since eveything goes bad in the Fridge.
@rolando2026 жыл бұрын
While the first step of freezing vegetables-blanching them in hot water or steam to kill bacteria and arrest the action of food-degrading enzymes-causes some water-soluble nutrients like vitamin C and the B vitamins to break down or leach out, the subsequent flash-freeze locks the vegetables in a relatively nutrient-rich state.

I just came across this video. I think it would be a lot cheaper to feed the iguanas iguana pellets or rabbit pellets with some greens and bananas. Instead of trying to have people go out and spend 80 dollars on the stuff you buy in this video. I know iguanas eat what you have in this video, but most people that buy green iguanas are young. That said young people want an easier way to take care of their pet iguana. And saying that animal protein will make an iguana aggressive is completely wrong. I have fed green iguanas a diet of mainly canned dog food for years without them being aggressive. That was before most people in the states even knew about pet iguanas and the diet was completely unknown. I don't feed iguanas canned dog food anymore because of the iguana pellets you can buy now. I do know that animal protein can or may be harmful to green iguanas and don't recommend feeding that to them but, starvation is not good either. I have iguanas that I have hatched out from eggs that has a main diet of pellets, rabbit or iguana. My iguanas live into their teens, and although people say their should live into they are twenty is like saying humans should live into their 100's, some do and some don't. Wouldn't it be better to have a green iguana live at least a few years my way then having people give up on them and having unwanted reptiles trying to feed them a diet you describe?

When I bought my Killer 13 years ago he cost 10 dollars. I found out shortly after that he needed $400 dollars worth of cage, lights, ceramic heat emitters, cat box, litter, basking lamp, "branches" cargo net, etc. Male Iguanas will grow to 6 ft. in length, and 18 pounds! Like with any pet, make sure you do the research on the habitat that they need to thrive. They can make great pets but do take lots of love, time, and patience. Good luck!

I only spend about $25 dollars a month for my adult male on this diet. Since the food is frozen you can keep it for as long as it takes him to eat it. Just make sure the food is chopped small enough for your greenie's mouth.

They can eat endive, dandelion greens, escarole, arugula, mustard greens, bell peppers, peas, carrots, cucumbers, green and yellow beans, squash, berries, grapes, bananas and mangoes. You can test his tastebuds with other fruit .. using small amounts to see if he likes it. My iguana didn't like peaches or kiwi.. or pears. He died at the age of 22 and in the end I fed him strained baby food .. he loved it.
