Focusing changed my life in the first session. I had meditated, EMDE, DBT, talk therapy etc and was about to try medication to battle my depression from CPTSD and my general lifelong dislike of our entire insane culture and then… it all shifted in a subtle but enormous way. One day, a few weeks later I felt peace wash over me in a way I never even imagined. I still struggle, have bad days but far far less than before I was introduced to Focusing. Therapists are not interested in it or ever learn about it because it will put them out of work. But I now believe the world would resolve all its complex and deadly problems if we all learned this technique. Nothing sexy or scary about it and requires zero belief and no experts. Try it. There’s a bonus step for those who have trauma. “What would it feel like in my body if I was healed?” The answer will amaze you. Then “Ok, what do I have to do to feel like this all the time?” It works.

Great stuff! Wonderful tools for folks who were sadly not taught to regulate their emotions due to childhood emotional neglect and lack of mirroring as an infant 😊 thank you so much for this!

I wonder if you can recommend a resource or video that might help me … sometimes I’m angry and I can’t figure out why. Really trying to grow as a person and I think this is my next step. Thanks for any pointers

Therapy is what comes to mind first. But a technique like focusing can get you started. Next time you feel angry, try to get some privacy and go through these steps. Often what first appears to be anger is really fear or sadness or some other emotion once we examine it more closely.

it sounds like a hybrid of psychotherapy and a meditation techniqe

I think this will be a great help. One very minor thing: you labeled step 6 (Receiving) as 5.
