I’m so glad to have found you, I’ve been following you about a year now. You have soooo much knowledge about cactuses and I to live here in Vegas.

Hi, Ana. My name is Pricilla. I'm a Brazilian woman trying to learn to speak English. I also have a small collection of cacti. Your cactus garden is wonderful. It was the first time I heard about tomato fertilizer on cactus plants. I loved the tip

Hi Pricilla! Thank you for watching. Give the fertilizer a try. ☺️ … off topic but I made some Pao de Queijo today! I’m still mastering the recipe though. 👍🏼

Lovely to see things starting to wake up. I've got a flower on my Parodia Chrysacanthion! Also my Mammillaria Haageana has a (partial) ring of flowers on it, only on the side facing the window. These are indoors so presumably responding to the longer daylight.

I like your real world experience. You definitely need to water in the winter in the desert like Las Vegas, or Phoenix. If you're in a dry area, you will need more water than what the experts will tell you.

I too live in the desert, albeit down in Tucson, but I grow a lot of the same stuff you have. Thanks for describing the fertilization and watering process. I just found your channel and already have learned a ton from your videos. Thanks!!! Zk P.S. Just went through a big blooming season (mid June). I mostly have columnar night bloomers (still learning the names...)

Hello Anna, great video again. Gave my cacti last week a little sip as Lynn from Desert plants of Avalon told us, and you now as well. I bought some tomato fertilizer and within two weeks a will give them a good drink with it. I am overwhelmd for the moment, and running behind... Running behind taking care of my cacti and plants. I don't know how your dad is doing in the mean time, but mine is not well. He now has liver faillure and won't get better anymore. His bed is in my room where i work and sleep so i can watch him every single second/minute of the day. Doctors last visit he said, i have to prepare for the worst, but how can i prepare for that, my dad is my foundation, my everything my hero. I have to take care of him because his very limited in what he can do. Few of my cacti and plants died and aren't doing that wel because of me running behind all the time, but in these awefull times they do keep me going a bit because if i don't there wil be nothing left of them and my dad wouldn't want that. He loves my cacti and plants as well, everytime i show him one, or if i show him a propagation that went well he is so proud of me i can do that. I hope everything with your dad and family is great, and every second left i will watch your videos i couldn't see yet because i like them very much!! Take care, love from Belgium🥰

I’m sorry to hear that your dad is ill. But he is fortunate to have a caring daughter like you. Surround yourself and your dad with positive vibes. If plants make you and him happy, celebrate each new growth that you see. It’s a good thing that cacti and succulents can thrive even with some neglect. My dad is well considering his age. He is back home though in the Philippines so I don’t get to spend time with him (physically) right now. Hope spring brings you healthy and flowering plants! 😊🌵🌸🌺☕️

Dàgo té, it's Apache for, I hope you're doing well. I got an aloe 2 years ago. And then last year I was gifted some peyote from a ceremony. 6 months ago I got an Old Lady cactus. Now I've got San Pedro, Nipple Cactus, Spinystar and so on 🤣. Anyway, I'm in PHX Az, and you've said you're in the desert as well. So I was just wondering where? So I can really use your videos to help me take care of my collection and grow my collection 😁. So far it's been going well, did have a thrip invasion but came out victorious 💪🏽. But yeah, thanks for your videos and I am now subscribing.

I always enjoy your videos! Maybe I missed it, but what is the frequency of your watering when you begin in spring? And do you change it during later in the Summer?
@CactusCaffeine7 ай бұрын
In spring, I water once a week if it is warm and dry. But it has been rainy here that it’s been 2 weeks now that I haven’t watered still. In the summer, I water every 3-4 days (usually) as our summer is very dry.

Hey Ana, another informative video. I have a question. Have you ever had a Trichocereus bloom when it is only 5" tall? I bought what I thought was a Trich (Home Depot labeled it as such) about 5 years ago. It's in bud right now for the first time and it's only about 5 " tall. I wonder if it was mislabeled.

Have you tried omitting vinegar, adding whatever chemicals you need, measure the pH with a meter, add pH Down to get to 5.5 or whatever you think you need and water your plants? Nice meter for $75. pH Down for $20. Then your water will be the exact pH that you want, regardless of what chemicals you add or what the city water pH is. Works for me.
@CactusCaffeine7 ай бұрын
Omg! I forgot about the pH Down. Someone recommended that to me before. Was it you Bill who recommended this to me before?… Ok, I just ordered a pH down with the tester, too. I’ll give this a try. Thank you so much for reminding me about this. 👍🏼
@billgolightly72037 ай бұрын
Yes, I did. I do not know how to type, but let me send over a brief go-by for you. Did you get the Apera Instruments SX610?
@CactusCaffeine7 ай бұрын
Just the ph down and the liquid solution tester that came with it. 🙂
@billgolightly72037 ай бұрын
You will need a meter also. I have a meeting this afternoon, but I will pull a go-by together in a day or so. I really believe that you will be pleased when we get you going with this. I will take this to a more direct mail also.
@CactusCaffeine7 ай бұрын
Oh, I already have a digital ph meter tester. I use it to test my water when I add the vinegar and fertilizers
@Nino_G7 ай бұрын
Hello Ana, That acidification process looks quite risky to me. Alkalinity of the tap water can vary significantly over time and it's impossible to give a reliable "recipe" how much acidifier to add in order to reach the aimed acidity. You should always measure pH of the final mixture before using it, either by pH meter or pH test strips (which are less accurate, but good enough for the purpose). Most nutrients are best absorbed by the plants at roughly pH 5,5-6,5 so you should aim to stay within that interval, Overly acidic solution (water+acidifier+fertilizer) can be toxic to the plants. Best regards, Nino

Is seaweed fertilizer good for cactus?
@CactusCaffeine7 ай бұрын
Yes, I’ve used one with a seaweed additive before and it is organic, too. Just make sure the nitrogen component is not too high.
@azwelke26384 ай бұрын
Mesquite trees naturally put nitrogen into the soil, so, if you are growing near a mesquite tree in the ground, you definitely will not need nitrogen.

Not permanently. The ones inside are either seedlings or they are recovering from something. I keep all my cacti outdoors.

If the water in your area is too alkaline, probably it is a hard water (high content in Calcium and Magnesium dissolved in the water), right? Why not buy a small reverse osmosis device to demineralize the water you use for your plants?
