You inspired me to grow better. I have about 100 airlayers on my in-ground figs to grow more in pots. Keep videos coming. Don't take time to edit. They are great either way, so don't burn out with editing. I love following your daily routines.

Thanks so much for this. I’ve been reading and re-reading the JADAM book, taking notes, making my plan for next year. I just received the book on pests and disease control. Appreciate you breaking it down this way. I’m really embracing KNF.

Hey Homer, great video!! Love your set up. Where do you get your 5 gallon white buckets?

They sell them in Menards. They food grade and they also sell the spinning top lids.

Homer. You are absolutely amazing. I can’t wait for every video you make. Curious about how long does it take to break down the crab and mussels shells? What do you put in with them? Has to be something to be able to break down. Also how long does it take for the fish to break down? Do you grind up the fish? I have so many questions. Thank you for sharing I really appreciate your help. You the man ❤

I started the shell mix last year around September I believe. So almost a year to break down. I’m trying to make more videos explaining it.

2 times a week.

Good stuff. I have been blending shrimp heads or and crabshells into a paste and adding to my fish hydrolysate. The bacteria is better able to trasform it into chitosan
@basementfigs6 ай бұрын
I would love to try this! Sadly, I’m Asian and we eat the shrimp heads… LOL

@@basementfigsunderstandable! You can grind the shell waste too to make the chitin more available regardless. You just miss out on the proteins and enzymes in the head

Another great video. Once word gets around you're gonna blow up. How long do you ferment crabs/fish when using sugar and labs?
@basementfigs6 ай бұрын
I never tried ferment crabs with labs… but I would guess 2-3 months… the fish w labs broke down real fast maybe 1.5 months. Thanks for the kind words. And ty for watching.

Sorry one more question. Can I store the mussel and crab shells for later use or should I use them right away? Will they lose whatever it is by sitting out? 😊

When u make JADAM fertilizer… the older the better. But you need to keep feeding the barrel so the anerobic bacteria has something to eat.
@petergraves90066 ай бұрын
ppl have tested thier soil micro biology before and after using chlorinated water and they found even though it did kill some off some biology it wasnt enough to kill them off entirely thus being able to maintain healthy soil i used to get the hose filters for like 50 bucks but didnt notice a differnce once i stopped using it for convenience the water filters are nice i think they sell for 30 bucks now

❤ 2 q’s: have you added something to your phosphorus fert to substitute for the molasses? Our guy uses wood ash for the phosphorus fert when applying, do you believe it is important/necessary? Do you use or sub?
@basementfigs6 ай бұрын

@basementfigs6 ай бұрын
Same school of thought but slightly different approach. KNF will use sugar and molasses. This is a quick way to make fertilizer. Usually with LABs. JADAM is about a slow process of decomposing using local microorganisms to multiple and “dissolve” the plant material. JADAM is better imo but I will make some KNF videos soon. Wood ash is great for adding micro nutrients. What I usually do is when I have a bone fire, I just take the ashes and throw some in those buckets I have. I believe my soil mix could really keep my figs thriving without any fertilizing and I’m just fertilizing to make my soil last longer. Once I start worrying about nutrient deficiency, I definitely just do a compost tea. That is the easiest solution to fix any problems.

Please start using the rice hull I gave you. Potassium sulfate found in the rice hull will increase your plants immunity by strengthening the cell walls. It makes it possible for the plant to handle extreme stress too. Hot weather. Cold weather. I will never grow another plant without rice hull. Aeration is the bonus.
@kevinbisneau37045 ай бұрын
Nice job. Why go through the work of making fertilizer but still using a commercial microbes product? Compost/worm casting tea or IMO indigenous microorganisms will get you results. Thanks for the video!
@basementfigs5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching!! I concur. But there are a billion microorganisms and not all are present. I like making tea from time to time as well. Just something to switch it up. My hobby is buying stuff for my hobby. lol.

How does your fertilizer smell? I have tried jadam and my neighbors stated that they could smell sewerage.
@basementfigs6 ай бұрын
Smells wickedly bad especially the crab leg one… also you can do organic fertilizing with brown sugar and molasses… those general smell sweet like the fish hydrolysate in the video.
@Spencer_Plant_Projects6 ай бұрын
You need to let the fertilizers break down for a year + to solve the smell problem. They say it's good after a few months but the best thing is to do a long fermentation
@basementfigs6 ай бұрын
Yea the older the better. The cheating way is to use LABs with Molasses. Thanks for chiming in Spencer!
@Spencer_Plant_Projects6 ай бұрын
EM-1 or LABs/molasses is not cheating just a different ferment coming from Kyusei nature farming system out of Japan. Really good for alkaline soils or sand, the low pH doesn't help as much in clay loams and potting media.
@basementfigs6 ай бұрын
When I said cheating… I mean time wise. I’ll make some KNF soon.
