How to Figure out Everything You Want Colleges to Know About You

What are some things you want colleges to know about you? Share below! Here are mine: I moved around a lot as a kid and lived in several different countries. I’m a theater nerd and have won some awards for doing theater. Have also won some speech and debate awards. (I basically see speech and debate as a chance to do more theater.) I would love to travel at some point while I’m in college (study abroad, maybe). I’m looking for a school that will allow me to produce my own theatrical works. I’m excited to be in an environment that has other motivated people who love words (I feel like I don’t know too many of those people in my high school-most of my friends who love poetry I’ve met online). I’m excited for changing seasons (in Miami it’s basically just hot and humid). I’m excited to be able to make my own schedule in college. I’m excited to say up late talking with other people about Big Ideas. I’m excited to live in a dorm. I’m not sure what I want to do when I grow up, but I think it has something to do with writing and/or performing. My grades were impacted by my switching schools (didn’t have access to certain Honors and AP courses), so I don’t feel like they are an accurate reflection of my potential. I’ve worked on some student films in college and am currently working on my first feature-length screenplay (to be filmed this summer). I love films and consider myself a (kind of) aficionado on 90s films (mostly because I work at a video store). I love being inspired and inspiring others. I’ve had a few leadership roles in high school, but the most meaningful has been in Theater. I’m a huge chess fan and often will play on my free time (at lunch, after school), and sometimes in class once I’ve finished all my work. I attended a private missionary kid school in 9th grade, a private Christian school in Miami for 10th grade, then moved to public school in 11th grade for more opportunities (gifted program, more opportunities to do theater), but also just to meet more people. I love helping people-usually this means teaching my younger siblings things-but also through community service (Special Olympics, volunteering through church, etc.). I love reading and writing poetry. I also love creative writing and won an award from my English teacher for my essays. I’m excited to go out of state for college. My parents have been cool, but I’m looking forward to the adventure.

this is my list :D -I love to play video games -I have ADHD and I have overcome these challenges by doing harder classes and overcoming these disabilities -I love to collaborate with others and take charge in those situations -I am a hard worker and have been taught to always do my best no matter what challenges I face -I have always been somewhat quiet but I have not let that define who I am as a person -I was adopted when I was 4 years old and have learned a lot from my parents who have been supportive of me all the way through school -I have tried almost every sport and have never enjoyed it as much as other people. I love to be on my computer more than anything.

Being SGA Vice President, 10th Grade President allowed me to learn how to plan events 7. About to make a speech in front of all my county's principals and district leaders (I'll give the name in the official one) 8. I've held various county and school-level student positions 9. Won 2 history awards in the district level 10. I want to teach for secondary and postsecondary levels 11. Constantly trying to better myself for others+ Have been there to help counsel my friends 12. First Generation Student with older brother in college 13. Made my own merged religious belief using Islam, Christianity and Science together 14. Took Dual Enrollment, AP and helped the creation of new school music and arts class pathways 15. Thrilled to live in a dorm 16. Scared because I'm very lazy with work 17. Love writing poetry and scripts introductions but never seem to get to the endings. 18. Second in my entire Ethiopian family to be born in America 19. Not a high SAT score (1160) because didn't have time to prepare

Mine isn't big, but I guess it's still able to depict me as an individual: 1) Positivity, Positive attitude towards the task 2) Kindness, the desire to improve the world as a whole 3) Open to new opportunities 4) Idea creation, try something new every once in a while Also I asked some of my friends about these qualities that they think is worth mentioning, I hope it's not cheating

I have studied French for six years and I am a member of La Société Honoraire de Français 9. I can understand both sides of an issue and want to learn how people I may disagree with think 10. I'm a performer, in theatre and in music 11. I've studied flute for seven years and take on a leadership position in my section 12. I've been in theatre since 4th grade 13. @College Essay Guy, any constructive criticism? 1. I moved around alot (3rd culture kid) 2. Always knew I wanted to go into a STEM field, but didn't know which 3. I discovered my fav science career, bioinformatics, in 9th grade 4. It's important to me to bring my voice into spaces (participate/engage) 5. It's important to me to encourage others to speak 6. I love applying the metaphor of mycorrhizae to the world 7. I once felt like I could taste words on my tongue in colors 8. I love reading; I funnel all my senses into it 9. It is important to me to use powerful language to shape my world 10. I like when people care for me and I care for other people 11. I want to be honest with other people and never stop trying to reach someone else even when we misunderstand each other 12. I like organizing (stats, items, notes) 13. I value critical thinking 14. I really like exploring the nooks and crannies of study spaces on campus (where I can recognize others cared to make a space for students) and then settling into a routine (that one spot you just love sitting at) and then changing it up 16.
