What kind of receipts are you keeping? Can you use bank statements?
@travelnursecayla3 жыл бұрын
I usually keep receipts for work-related expenses, like scrubs, shoes, stethoscopes, CEU fees, certifications,, licensure, etc...anything needed on the job. I do prefer to keep my receipts for gas, tolls, and hotels/housing while going to/from and while being on an assignment. I only keep those things because I use TravelTax and they have an extensive worksheet that requests these things. Those receipts aren't needed, as they aren't write-off items of as 2018, but I'm old school and if the laws were to change, I'd be covered. I'm not sure if you could use bank statements, but I don't see why you couldn't (surely you can't always keep every single receipt). I think that'd be a great question for an accountant from one of the companies I reviewed. I hope this was helpful. Please let me know if I can help you moving forward.

I got 2 separate w2s from my agency that have taxes from the city I live in and the city I work in

That's interesting. I've never heard of that happening unless you were working in both states. I'd suggest letting a tax expert sort that out.

Can you claim your car payment as an expense ? Since you need it to get to your contract ?
@travelnursecayla2 жыл бұрын
I don't believe so. I never have, nor has my accountant asked for that info to do so. I would suggest this question be answered by a tax pro though!

So I started traveling in 2021, I actually never made it out of TX. Do you think it would still be a good idea to use these companies? Also, I am the worst and did not save any receipts. Do you think I could use bank statements instead?

As long as you're still a traveler, then I'd suggest using these companies. If you became staff, then I'd say use whichever service you'd prefer. You don't HAVE to have receipts, but if you're itemizing it helps. I'd suggest you speak with a tax accountant though to see what you need and what they'll accept. Hope that helps!

What happens if I have a part time job non benefits eligible which is a W2 paid job, but also work for 3 other companies as a 1099 independent contractor?

I don't have an answer on this, nor would I want to steer you wrong, so I'd suggest speaking with a tax accountant to discuss your options.

What if I legit own two homes in the same state (MN) but 100 miles apart? Could I stay at my second home and count that as duplicating expense? I am in fact paying two mortgages in my name

That's an interesting setup...I would think yes, it counts? But, I'd highly suggest directing that question toward a travel accountant to be certain!
