How to fill gaps between lining paper?

You should always leave 1mm between lining paper and not butt it as it can create folds in the paper that are noticeable even with paint. When you fill, I'd recommend doing it twice using 180 grit sand paper between each fill to ensure the gap is flush to the paper. 👍

Mix emulsion paint of the colour you are going to use on the wall into the filler and it works even better. Still sands down easily too. Depending on your choice of lining paper it may be better to put the first coat of emulsion on the wall prior to using filler.
