I've been really curious about this system. Do you feel like the nozzle gauge is the same as a regular hot glue gun? I was wondering if perhaps the Rangat gun had a larger nozzle allowing the thicker product to flow more efficiently.
@ScottWunderWunderWoods2 жыл бұрын
I really don't think there is anything special about the glue gun. The product doesn't seem any thicker when it is hot, so I don't think there is a need for a different nozzle.

I purchased black glue sticks from Amazon and ran them through my cheap-o glue gun and had amazing results. There were a couple places where I hadn’t trimmed it it very well, I just used a heat gun to re warm the glue and it was smooth again 👍🏻

Also forgot to mention that a piece of ice can help to smooth the glue if you get some weird texture.

how do the various finishes work with the hot glue process
@ScottWunderWunderWoods2 жыл бұрын
We mostly use lacquers and conversion varnish and have had no problems with the finish. I have no reason to believe that it will cause any problems with other finishes. Once it is cooled, the glue behaves like a soft plastic, similar to epoxy.

Thanks for the video! I am very surprised that I cannot find the heat sink / press on Amazon sold singularly. Can anyone help with either a vendor or brand that I could order from?

It is just a block of aluminum with a handle. Not sure you even need the handle.

Would this work with just a normal craft glue gun? I have a small glue gun but not as heavy duty looking as that one
@ScottWunderWunderWoods Жыл бұрын
Not sure. I don't think you can get the correct glue/fill stick for smaller guns. Regular hot glue will fill the holes, but is very difficult to work with after filling.

Where can I get the aluminum piece to push the glue down and the plane iron
@ScottWunderWunderWoods Жыл бұрын
Ours came with the set we purchased from Rangate. There isn't much special about it. Just a block of aluminum with a handle.

what does the finish look like? like a poly or a oil finish
@ScottWunderWunderWoods Жыл бұрын
The hot glue has the same appearance as epoxy in sheen. When freshly applied it looks shiny. After sanding it looks more chalky. We always top coat with conversion varnish, so the end product has the same sheen as the wood - for us, usually dull/matte.

Do they mention what the glue sticks are made of?
@ScottWunderWunderWoods2 жыл бұрын
No. The main difference seems to be a higher melting temperature.

Yes. There seems to be more and more choices for this application.
