If you really want to fill the Sodastream cylinder to full capacity, just do it twice. Freeze the cylinder in the freezer, then follow the instruction here and fill it up as much as you can. Then put it back in the freezer again so the cylinder and the CO2 gas that has fill up the cylinder to 80-90% capacity is at freezing temperature, then follow the refill instruction from here again. And if you weight the cylinder this time, you will see that it is at full capacity. This is the best method to ensure that it is fill to 100% capacity, even if it might be a hassle freezing the cylinder twice. Btw. Do not take too long to close the valve of the refill tank. If you take too long, the Sodastream cylinder will absorb the ambient heat from the room and increase the temperature of the Sodastream cylinder thus increase the pressure inside the cylinder. The higher pressure inside the cylinder will push the CO2 gas inside the cylinder back into the refill tank to equalize the pressure between the two, thus resulting in less CO2 gas inside the cylinder.

I was having a hard time getting the Sodastream canister to fill, even with opening very slowly and releasing pressure. What I found eventually worked with reliability is to loosely screw the Sodastream canister to the adapter so gas can escape when you open the CO2 tank, then slowly tighten the Sodastream canister and it will stay open and fill.
@danagboi3 жыл бұрын
This is the only technique that worked for me as well. It is described by someone else below as well. I tried tightening both fully and using the bleed valve on the adapter open at the beginning to try to gradually introduce CO2 to the Soda Stream cylinder but you are absolutely right - if you tighten it on too much to start you won't get any gas transfer.

I have had a slightly different experience in using my adapter. I follow the steps as per the video however I found that I tighten the adapter all the way to the CO2 bottle which is fine and then I hand tighten the pre frozen sodastream cylinder to the adapter. If I tighten the sodastream cylinder it all the way the gas doesn't flow so I loosen the sodastream cylinder (about an eigth of a turn) with the CO2 turned on and I can hear it start to fill. I only slightly crack the CO2 cylinder to get the gas flowing and I leave it upside down on a bench (I have a six kg CO2 Cylinder) and it takes about ten minutes to fill. Midway through the fill I check to see if the gas is still flowing as obviously there is a bit off back pressure so I increase the CO2 flow slightly so I can hear it running again. After ten or so minutes I check it and if there is no gas running I increase the pressure on the CO2 bottle again and if there is no obvious flow I turn off the CO2 and disconnect the SodaStream bottle. Doing it this way I can get the total weight of the refilled bottle to 1145g. A factory bottle filled is 1180g. One thing to note which I don't think is in the video is that if you partially fill the bottle and the safety valve goes off I don't think you can continue to fill the bottle, you either have to use the gas in it or empty it out. You have to empty it before you start to fill it in the beginning also. Hope this helps.

Lifesaver! Thought I was going crazy as I could not fill my SS bottle from the 6kg bottle. Your trick with the slight loosening worked for me. I tried with and without the RPV in place. Left it in the last time and the bottle took 2 minutes to fill. It's a bit of an art to turn the valve on very slowly.
@danagboi3 жыл бұрын
This is the only technique that worked for me. I spent ages trying to crack the bottle gently etc etc and even loosened off the bleed valve on the adapter so that I could feel when the co2 was 'just' starting to release with no result. This technique was the winner for me and worked straight away. You, Sir, are a legend. I froze my Soda Stream cylinder for 1 hour and used this exact technique, coming back after 3 mins to open the main cylinder valve a touch as the flow had indeed stopped due to back pressure. Got my Soda Stream cylinder 95% full (1100g) and got a smooch from the wife.

Okay so i stumbled upon the following issue: I tried filling a soda stream cylinder which i cooled in the freezer for about an hour or 2. Using a similar setup but i have an adapter with a high pressure hose attached. The cylinder is standing on a scale while i am filling it up so i can exactly see how much it weighs. With the cooled cylinder i manage to almost fully fill it up. (Which you dont want to do completely because the gas will expand a little more when it reaches room temperature). So when i filled it for about 80% i close the big tank, use the bleed valve and take the cylinder off. While doing this i noticed the soda stream valve (newer disk version) keeps leaking gas. I tried to look this up on the internet but could not find a solution for this problem yet. This happened twice already with 2 different cylinders.. both with the new disk valve. I somehow think this is a build in temper-proof valve which soda stream now uses to force customers to swap the empty cylinders for a new one for the ridiculous price they’re asking.. Has anyone else encountered the same problem i just described and maybe found a solution to solve this issue? Excuse me for my spelling mistakes by the way. Please like this comment so more people can see!! Hope to hear back from someone!:) Peace.

When you press 'Fizz'... stop before the overfill squawk. Then Wait at least 30 seconds before doing another Fizz button. Then Wait another 30 seconds for the third Fizz. And finally - Wait 10 to 15 seconds and release the bottle. This gives the CO2 time to dissolve into the water. When press, press, press and Release in a few seconds... there is not sufficient time for the CO2 to dissolve in water. Everyone who does the 'wait' between the three Fizz will use LESS CO2 and have Very Fizzy water, wine, tequila, vodka (anything other than water - only fill bottle to the 25 to 33% amount/volume of the SodaStream Bottle - do not fill to the WATER Line with wine or alcohols). :)

Are you freezing the soda stream cylinder overnight in the freezer before refilling it? Is your soda stream cylinder completely empty before you try to refill? If there is any residual gas within the cylinder, it will prevent any liquid from coming in. What is the weight of the host cylinder? As the host cylinder gets empty, you would not be able to fill the soda stream cylinder completely. If you are using genuine sodastream cylinders, these are a lot more difficult to refill as they have been designed in a way to prevent people from refilling. We would recommend getting one of our Kegland branded sodastream cylinders which are a lot easier to refill. Lastly, make sure you have enough gas to refill with. As you use up liquid CO2 from your host bottle, you will get lesser and lesser refills as the liquid CO2 gets used up.

Kegland, is it really necessary to remove the refilling adapter from the cylinder and replace the RPV each time? Can I just leave the refilling adaptor on the cylinder without using the RPV?
@Resignandreset4 жыл бұрын
If you have a larger bottle, just use it straight to the sodastream. You cannot EVER recharge the sodastream cartridge full, what this system do is only equalize the pressure between cylinders, which means the less gas you have on the bigger cylinders, the less it will transfer. Waste of time.
@KegLand3 жыл бұрын
It is not necessary but removing it will speed it up.

@@KegLand Hi Kegland. I wish to make a complaint here. I have a 6kg cylinder purchased through your reseller Brewmart. If you leave the refilling adapter on and do not replace the RPV each time, then a slow leak occurs and you will eventually lose most of the CO2. I've only done 2 refills of a Sodastream canister. After the second refill I decided to leave the adapter in place for convenience. Imagine my surprise doing the third refill when I found the tank felt much lighter when I turned it upside down and the canister didn't refill. I suggest updating your video description to include the important steps involved in doing this refill method, with final step being "Reinsert RPV valve to prevent gas leakage".
@KegLand2 жыл бұрын
@@JuliusPang Hello Julius. The RPV is only a small residual pressure valve and keeps a small amoutn of pressure in the cylinder and this will make no difference to leaks. The PRV is only in place to prevent contamination getting in the cylinder. If you have had the gas cylinder leak out you almost certainly did not have the black handle on the top of the cylinder valve turned off completely. There is a small chance that the valve is faulty. If you ever want to check the valve just turn off the valve and then immerse the whole cylinder in water and look for bubbles.

I’m using the smaller sodastream cylinders. The ones that make 30L of soda. The cylinder holds 270g of CO2. How many times could a 3kg cylinder fill this? Is it basically 3kg divided by 0.27kg = 11 fills? Or due to residual pressure in the main tank you only get say, 9 fills as an example?
@KegLand3 жыл бұрын
Yes you will end up with a small amount of CO2 in the large tank but it's negligiable. You would end up very clost to 11 fills.

I Purchased a 20 pound CO2 cylinder tank (with dip tube) for refilling my 130 L and 60 L Carbonators. I watched your KZbin video and learned a lot. I have an adapter valve that connects to both my host cylinder and the smaller Sodastream cylinders (I've put my soda stream cylinders in the freezer prior to filling as you suggested.) I’m using a scale and never get more than four or 5 ounces into my 60L cylinders or 9oz in my 130L tanks . I’m wondering why. Any suggestions?
@rosiefeord66004 жыл бұрын
Is it possible you don't open the feeder CO2 cylinder anymore from the point it was opened to when you start filling your smaller cylinder? If that is the case, the back pressure in the smaller cylinder may be preventing more CO2 from the feeder from entering. I get this idea from reading @free4free68 comments. His or her comments were very enlightening.

how many soda stream bottle refills are people getting with a 2.6 kg cylinder
@KegLand Жыл бұрын
You should get about 8 if you have no wastage.
@gdlivo33534 күн бұрын
@@KegLand How do you arrive at that number? A regular 60 L Soda Stream bottle (new) has a net content of 400g of liquid CO2. Assuming no waste and complete fills that means you'll potentially get 6.5 completely refilled bottles from a full 2.6 kg bottle. 8 fills would mean you're only putting 325 g into each refill, and again, assuming zero waste and 100 % empty of the donor bottle, which is not going to happen. I'd count on getting maybe 5.

Is there any chance of the Sodastream bottle exploding? My local gas merchant told me not to risk filling it myself. Said there was very little give in the sodastream bottles and it could be very dangerous.
@KegLand2 жыл бұрын
sodastream bottles are fitted with a burst disk in the valve. This burst disk is a reliable device and quite simple in it's design with no moving parts to go wrong or require maintenance. If the cylinder is overpressurised the burst disk will blow open and release the pressure from the cylinder in a controlled way. This prevents the cylinder from "exploding" The burst disk also protects the cylinder in many other instances. For instance if you leave the sodatream cylinder in your car in the sun. The car can get over 50C and if your cylinder is full it will also blow the burst disk. I am quite confident that sodastream would not sell a cylinder that would simply explode in your car if left in the sun or simply gets too hot for any reason. These failsafe features are already in place.
@jasongreene3032 жыл бұрын
If the pressures are the same, why not connect the big bottle to the sodastream device itself? It may not be as pretty or portable, but it saves a bunch of steps and time in the long run.

Are all RPV removeable? You said some are round, what key to use to remove the round one?. Some adaptor has an additional piece to sit in it and push the RPV back. If all RPV are removeable, then why need that add-on pin to push it?

What about if, it's filled up longer than 3 minutes, won't the small cylinder be exploit?
@KegLand2 жыл бұрын
That would not make any difference. Both cylinders are rated to the same working pressure so there is no reason why it would explode when they are connected. the only issue that you can have is if you overfill the small cylinder. If this is happens and you detach the small cylinder if the smaller cylinder doesnt have enough head space for the liquid CO2 to expand into then you can potentially blow the burst disk. for this reson it's a good idea to weigh the cylinder after the fill to confirm you have got the correct fill volume.

Ralph Marshall One other KZbin guy pointed out that the cylinder holds 430 g. So it’s probably a good idea to weigh the cylinder before and after and if you put more than 430 g in just bleed a little bit off

@@isapsa45 Weight doesn't matter... Only pressure matters... and the pressure of the donor tank does not exceed the ability of the working cylinder... Screw the cylinder onto the donor tank, open the valve slowly, let it equalize... Done...
@cecilbrisley51854 жыл бұрын
Pressure is dependent on how much gas is in the container and the temperature of that gas. Temperature is the same as the environment the bottle is stored in. Thus the amount of gas is the only factor to consider when filling the cylinder.
