Hey Matt! Love this video! Do you have or are you planning on making a video about filming a ceremony as a single shooter? Ceremony is my biggest struggle
@tessamitan7 жыл бұрын
Same! I use a 70-300mm lens for the whole ceremony. As the bridal party enters I try to get shots of the groom. For the beginning, I'm up at the front to get the bride walking down the aisle. I try to switch around to the groom, but (depending on the setup) at 70mm focal length I usually get an extreme closeup that isn't super usable. From there I walk around the edges and behind them while being mindful of when the important parts are happening. Then, I'm at the back for the kiss and exit. My deliverable is a 5-6min highlight film, so it works for that. In no way would I be able to deliver a full ceremony cut. Long term I want to buy a B camera and have a stable tripod shot throughout. There's probably a better way to go about it, but that's what I've figured so far. Hopefully that was at least somewhat helpful!

Hey Matt, I found this video very helpful. I wondered, though, how important (or rather, unimportant) it is for you to break that 180 degree rule while filming the ceremony. Some of your Glidecam shots with the Sigma 50mm were taken from behind the bridal line, while Rachel’s and the Sony FS100 static cameras are positioned in front.

I've always been taught to have at least one shot down the middle and the second camera at least on the bride. But I actually really like the look at the footage with two coming in at angles. And this setup you had two Shooters and four cameras, what would you do if you had two cameras for one videographer? Would you still have two at the sides coming in at an angle, or one down the center and one at an angle?

Hey Matt, when you use the battery grip on the camera, did you ever notice an unstable movement with your footage? Because I used a battery grip with the 16-35 and noticed that it was top heavy and I ended up getting a lot of bouncy footage. Come to find out, the battery grip and the camera connected together had a little bit of play but everything was as tight as it could be. The footage is fixable if you slow it down. I'm just wondering because I'm scared to use the battery grip in the future. Just wondering if you had any tips.

Matt, My wife and I are extremely thankful for your wedding filmmaker tutorials. You have truly changed the way we shoot weddings! Now to my question, have you figured out a way to combat the way the Sony A7s II names it's video files? Depending on the number of A7s II's we have, I could have 2-5 clips with the same name of C0001.mp4. It seems counterintuitive to have the camera start back at 1 every time you format a card. I have it set on Series and not Reset, so I am not sure if I may be missing something? It would be extremely helpful if it continued the file numbering system even with a fresh card. Thanks in advance, and keep up the amazing videos!
@whoismatt7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Kyle! I get around this by copying all my video files into separate folders. So I'll have one folder "A7Sii card 1" and another "a7sii card 2". I import everything into Premiere and organize it by who shot it. I don't believe there is an option in camera to make the file numbers sequential otherwise, unfortunately.

So you don't really have a rear safety camera do you? You're kinda covering that with your glidecam camera? Also, around 12:40-12:50, did one of you switch to the 50mm and go behind the bridal party? Also! I noticed a lot of closed off f9 and f14 shots, was that to regulate the light and just not really care about a smaller depth of field? Help with focusing? All of the above!??!
@whoismatt7 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Haha yeah at 12:40-12:50 I was handheld on the 50mm behind the bridal party. Sorry I don't have a BTS shot of me doing this. It works well because then I'm not distracting from the event. I'm hidden behind everyone else. I shot a lot at those higher apertures because I don't like having to deal with focus as much when I'm roaming around.

Absolutely loving your channel, just stumbled on it, while researching/prepping for a few travel videos I'm making in the near future. So cool to see how other videographer's go about their day. I have a couple quick questions, if you don't mind. If you do, then I'll just unsub, cry and then move on, but if you find the time, then awesome! 1. Do you find during the Ceremony (walking down the isle with the bride and her father), that the photographer's typically dislike that? 2. When placing the lav's on the inner coat (I usually leave them on the outer), do you find you have to edit out a lot of rubbing on the mic, or do the cover's counter-act that? 3. How often do bride's and groom's typically order a Ceremony Video down the road? Cheers and thanks for all the great info! You deserve a lot more subs than you have!

What I shot was mostly insurance to make sure we didn’t miss important ceremony moments, like the first kiss or look. Now that we’ve moved away from wedding photography and into videography, he uses the majority of my shots now.
