To get a little better quality, try screen recording your laptop screen to capture your partner talking. And you can try to use the audio sync function in Adobe Premiere Pro. But, I have to admit that doesn't always work well, but it is worth trying it first.

These are great tips, I'm new to editing videos so this was very helpful.

Id recommend using QuickTime to do a screen capture. Make sure the audio is set to capture the laptop audio output. Also mail your interviewee a lav mic so you get higher quality audio

This was really helpful! I'm trying to figure this out myself. Will be keeping a note of this when I film and edit my videos.

Very nice job. i'm starting my own channel and as a part of the content, I'm going to be doing interviews. I have been wondering how shows like The Tonight Show have been using Zoom for interviews... I thought maybe Zoom had a built in feature to handle interviews. I like your approach. And I like the wisdom of "film your own copy on a local camera because your cloud space could delete your interview". Really good tip. One thing I'm going to look into is using OBS Studio to make the local copy. We'll see how that goes.

Yes, I learned that tip the hard way and hope it saves other videographers haha I will have to look into OBS Studio

So can you drop the audio from zoom to GarageBand? I’m tryna have some people on my podcast from different states but don’t know if doing zoom is the way to go.
@SophieMurrayVideos3 жыл бұрын
When you finish with the Zoom call it will download the recording to whatever file you have told it to in Preferences. This includes an audio file of the entire meeting in .m4a format. I am not super familiar with podcasting or GarageBand, but if you can use this format or convert it to a usable one you should be good to go. Also, in preferences, you can tell Zoom to download an audio file that isolates each person's audio. You get a folder (in addition to the main audio file which has the full meeting in one) containing each participant's isolated audio in separate files. I hope this helps and good luck with your podcast!

Hi... I am Henny from Jakarta Indonesia. Thank you for your tutorial. Did we need to download program to edit recording from zoom? If yes, what the name of program. Thank you
@SophieMurrayVideos4 жыл бұрын
Hi Henny! Yes, I am working with the Adobe Suite of programs which has one called Premiere. There is a monthly subscription fee to access these programs. There's also iMovie which I believe comes built in on Macs and there are free software options however I can't personally recommend any. I hope this helps!

I love how you were able to zoom in the video of you and your friend, how would I be able to do that as well, what application would work?
@SophieMurrayVideos4 жыл бұрын
Hi Justin! I use Adobe's Premiere app. This requires subscribing to the Adobe Suite and then downloading Premiere. Once you have done this you can follow the instructions in the video. If you have a Mac, they come standard with iMovie which likely has the same capability, however I am not familiar with that program as I haven't used it. There are some free to download editing softwares which you should explore, however I am not familiar with any of those either. Hope this helps!

Following up on a question: why not have Zoom record the footage of your friend vs. your shooting the screen with your camera? You could have used your camera for an additional angle, right? Also, I had someone tell me that I should ask the person I am interviewing to record their audio on their phone (using an app like Voice Recorder) and then email the audio track. That it may be higher quality than the Zoom audio. Thoughts? (And thanks).

Hi, these are great questions which I have gotten quite a bit. I had an experience early on where I used the internal Zoom screen recording function and, after an hour long interview, the footage didn't save be cause of an issue with my cloud storage. I have since figured out the settings so this doesn't happen but I also film everything I need externally to avoid losing footage. As for asking the interviewee to record their own audio, that is a wonderful idea. My rode mic was picking up good enough quality that I didn't want to make it as easy as possible for the interviewees to participate but you could always try having them send audio recorded on their side.

Did you record the video streams separately like you can the audio in Zoom? If so, how did you go about doing that?
@SophieMurrayVideos4 жыл бұрын
I actually filmed myself with my iphone and then recorded the screen so the footage of me is from my iphone recording and the footage of my friend is from the screen grab or screen recording

Just getting started in this it is something among many things I have wanted to do. My question is what editing software you are using? and what camera? Any insights would be great.
@SophieMurrayVideos4 жыл бұрын
I use Adobe Premiere software and a Cannon 80D camera equipped with an external Rhode mic. I also invested in a new lens that has a lower aperture capability than the kit lens. I think getting any DSLR and an external mic is a great place to start!

I capture zoom right on desktop, auto delete dead air (saves 10-20% of dead air time), and then render a time-optimized output in TimeBolt.io. If I had two seperate camera sources, I'd have to sync the audio in Final Cut first, render, then auto optimize time / cut scenes in TimeBolt. Still much faster than cutting scenes in an NLE.
