Answering some questions on how to make solo hiking videos and travel content. In this video I'll cover what it takes to start filming outdoors and what tools you need as a beginner to get started, and I'll break down some tips that will help reduce the friction of filming alone, so you get to enjoy the hike while you document it.
This is an introduction to filmmaking outdoors and documenting your travels. More videos to follow where I deep dive into each topic.

Thank you! Appreciate it. I usually just leave it as People and Blogs, for more specific travel style videos I may put it in travel, but I've not seen any notable effect of doing so. I think YT algorithm is good enough to know what your video is about without needing to specify at that level :)

I always thought that these hiking videos must be no small feat to film. I don't think I'd ever do it myself but great tip on breaking the trail down into sections, it makes a lot of sense this way. Really well broken down for beginners and the curious.

I’ve been hiking the Camino de Santiago every year for the last 8 years. I’ve brought cameras with me in the past, but never even pulled them out of my backpack. Going this summer with my 14 year old daughter. 500 miles along the French Route should be fertile ground for some footage. Planning on bringing an Action 4 or GoPro and the Pocket 3. I know very little about cameras or editing. Hopefully we can make something watchable. Thank you for the video. I appreciate it.

That will be a lovely trip and some good memories I'm sure. My top performing video was filmed on a just a little GoPro 7, it was the best time I had filming outdoors tbh, compact and light. I'm sure you'll have a great time capturing your time together and editing your trip! I'll look forward to seeing it.

@@oliverkillian maybe you can help with a dilemma, i'm torn between the newer zv-e1 body with a cheaper lens, say samyang 18mm f2.8 or a the older a7c with a sony 20mm f1.8, what would you choose for your content?
@oliverkillian
@oliverkillian 8 ай бұрын
Tough one, I've been debating getting a smaller body myelf tbh. I would argue that for the kind of content where it's mostly shot on a tripod, A7C would be plenty and I would focus on getting a decent lens with it. But some of the new features (auto framing/stablisation/cine vlog) that come with Z series might be nice for you if you're planning to be a bit more active/vloggy with it @@RogerByrne

Nothing fancy my friend, I shot everything in manual, at 30fps, white balance around 5400-5600, sharpness low, ISO 100/adjust as required, colour profile to flat so I can grade it later (but this is not really needed) . The rest I just focused on setting up a good composition.@@tutorialbase23

I've only tried the Olympus OM1 for like a day so I couldn't say with authority on micro 4/3 cameras, but for the weight and size factor alone I have definitely considered switching systems, actually thinking about it still, just doing my research 😄
