Training stress isn't the only stress that can hugely affect you. What about life stress? Work stress? Add them all in to one perfect storm and you get to where i'm at now. BUT... race day is in 2 weeks and i'm tapering to freshen up out of this fog. And there's science behind it!

I follow you two all the time. .You have inspired me to take up challenges. I definitely found the joy today. I did my very first 10k trail run it was hard there was mudded fields lots of them plus about 10 styles to get over. then the hills seem to go on forever then this long country lane which was shaped like a alta skelter and a wood. The winner of the race which I would like to thank from my heart came and help me get around the last lap encouraged me all the way telling me how great I was for taking such a hard trail for my first one . I was last. I didnt come away feeling a failure I came away feeling very proud I finished plus saying I going to do again next year. Good luck with your move and your racing

Good video to watch! Thanks - I have a 200 trail miler in 4 weeks. This week, I can finally ease off the volume though it's hard mentally to do so. The race distance is so long that it feels like you can never get enough training. But, physically, I believe I put in a lot of work, 8 months of solid training - now just hoping the mind is strong enough to get me to the finish. Good luck with your race, and with the move. Big change - prepare to hurt in the humidity - a whole different animal.😂

I keep meaning to say this, but good on you Ben even getting back on the bike after that accident. I, too, was hit by a car while out on my bike. Less injured, but just as traumatized by it, it took me years before I was comfortable on the roads again. I took up running, in fact, because I needed an activity and riding just wasn't as enjoyable as it had been before the accident. Thankfully, now I can ride with enjoyment again, but I've fallen in true love with running, so riding is a rarity. :D

Well done guys, can't wait to see how it goes. Great video and I've taken to heart what you've said. I'm training for a little 10K in two weeks (which is big to me!) I've trained for the last 6 weeks and the training schedule does taper next week which I was worried about, now I know why!

Love this. For those of us working our way up to longer distances, what would be recommended taper for our shorter runs? (Seems like this would be a positive habit to pick up as early as possible)

Do you have any advice for someone like myself who’s currently training for a HM. My race has been postponed till March next year so obviously thrown a spanner in all of the planning and tapering etc

For me I found the recommended taper to long and too extreme. I see my to need to maintain a level of activity. I lose more cardio than I gain adaptation.

Hi Ben, another great video. I was just thinking about tapering. I'm training for my first marathon in October but have a half marathon booked for the end of July. My training plan has a long easy run of 150 minutes due that HM weekend with a number of running sessions during the week prior. In your opinion, should I continue to do the sessions and treat the half marathon as my long run or should I reduce the sessions and run the HM harder and see what i can achieve? Personally, I'm happy to just run easy on the day. Any thoughts appreciated. Good luck with race day.

Hey there! By looking at the dates of your races, it looks like you're from Melbourne. Is that right? Because I too have signed up for my first marathon this October, and I do know for a fact that there's Run Melbourne happening this July! Either ways, good luck for your races!

@@sheshashankar8304 Yep, Run Melbourne in July and Melbourne marathon in October. All the best for your training and your race day. :)

You could treat it as a workout long run. Usually when I've done races during training for another distance, I've just run the smaller race as an easy long run. But in marathon training (at least in my plan) there are marathon pace workouts during long runs. So you could do something like that for your HM. Just a thought. :). Good luck!
