There is this MMA gym in SF. Most of the guys are cannon fodder for a few underground leagues in the city. These guys fight for a living, basically homeless living in the same boarding house. Technically just enough to get by, you would be fooled by their yelp. Very quick way to get used for target practice or end up fighting for loose change for the seedy underground circuit. Imo telltale sign is “coaches” pushing you to fight ASAP as “training”, especially beginners.

Bought your Philly shell program years ago, and it has saved me many a brain cell in sparring and drills… I hope to one day train with you Coach. You’re giving away gold for free on this channel! Much gratitude.

I trained in tkd, and wrestled as a kid. Kickboxing before the army. Learned some bjj there. I'm not an expert, I'm no badass killer, but I'm also not as easy victim. I have a5 year old and I've decided I'm going to teach him instead of using a dojo or mma class. I just want him to feel safe and confident in himself. I would love to hear your take on that. Thank you sir

Micheal S: I think any father, or uncle or big brother who knows what it takes to defend one's self should start other males (and females) in their family out on the right foot before they go into a commercial establishment. Boxing and wrestling with a few easy to pull off chokes (talk to him about the danger of the chokes though) should set him on the right track. Get on your knees and box with him. Get rid of that early fear of getting hit asap. Let me know how you are doing from time to time. The best, S

10:10 that drill reminds me of Fedor. 13:52 this my 1st experience walking into a Boxing gym. I was fortunate enough to learn pretty early that he got into trouble for setting his fighters up badly and unprepared. Thank you for your knowledge as always!
@TheUmmahFightCamp2 жыл бұрын
Yup! Many gyms are meat wagons! They need to be called that and called out on it. Fedor was no frills mma as was DC. The best fighters keep it simple.

Tony Breez: Hey Tone! The best way is to start the kid off yourself! And if they go to a formal school, you can monitor them.

Do you think that Islam's win over Charles Oliveira is going to bring back wrestling (and also sambo) as the new dominant grappling form over BJJ?
@TheUmmahFightCamp2 жыл бұрын
LOL! Actually, wrestling never stopped being the most dominate grappling system in MMA! It has been that for at least 20 years now and more! Very easy to see! 1) Khabib 2) GSP 3) DC 4) Jon Jones 5) Demetrius Johnson 6) Usman In the top 10 ALL TIME, only Anderson Silva is BJJ and he was a striker until Subbing Sonnen! I have a list of 35 Hall of famers who are wrestlers! BJJ has not really been number one for 2 decades. Only Rogan and the American affluent community keeps the myth going. BJJ has its value, but since only 18% of fights end in submissions in the cage, there is no need for the advanced belts people are paying fortunes for.

Don’t you think the set up of 3 or 5 five minute rounds results in favoring wrestling (takedowns/position grappling) as opposed to BJJ (submission grappling)? Considering the reset of back to standing between rounds? As opposed to if it MMA had been under valeo tudo rules (no time limit or reset)? Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

It's not alot adult wrestling clubs , so would judo be good substitute and would it and boxing /kickboxing mixed together be better for self defense than bjj ?
@TheUmmahFightCamp2 жыл бұрын
icepick_618: BJJ has its value. No doubt about that. The issue is that you nor anyone else needs a black belt to learn what you need to add to your method of defending yourself. If you learn how to get up, transition from bottom to top and the most high percentage chokes, that is good and enough. That with boxing is a good start. Today, a good basic dvd and a training partner is enough to learn what you need of BJJ unless you want to compete.

What's your opinion on hema and buhurt?
@L.C19932 жыл бұрын
I’ve written to you numerous times sensei, how do you feel about Greco Roman wrestlers in mma. Like Alexander Karelin would’ve done if he transitioned to mma.
@TheUmmahFightCamp2 жыл бұрын
Hey dude. Sorry, much on the plate. Greco is BEST for mma IMOP. Why, it transitions well into Muay Thai and the tie ups can be gotten easily from a stand up attack.

@@TheUmmahFightCamp thank you sensei, do you believe what Bruce Lee said was true ? When he said a man who’s been doing boxing and wrestling for a year can be a martial artist who’s been training for 15 years.

@@L.C1993 LOL! It depends on the martial artist! I know a few that no boxer would enjoy going up against.

@@TheUmmahFightCamp 💯 Much of boxing today are just dream fights. Will not happen anytime soon or never ever 😂 Really? Not much black folks taking part or supporting MMA? Even with Kevin Randleman, Jon Jones, Usman Izzy, DJ, DC and Woodley? So many greats

Ummah, what’re your thoughts on if the Thais (Muay Thai/Thai Boxing) were to finally accept MMA in their country? As opposed to a super bias towards their national sport? Would be interesting to see strikers of their caliber pick up grappling/ground game.
