Seeinga mock-up on a beac bench of this car setup and how the test light works in this situation would be cool like a small mock up of what went wrong so you can track it out of the car

Great run through of using bulbs instead of 1000 fuses, haha. I noticed 2 things only another tech knows the pain of. 1, part way through, I noticed the blood on your knuckle from pulling plastic trims, lol. 2. As soon as you traced it to the A-pillar connector = the old sun visor mount screw through the wiring! Hahaha.

Great work! I appreciate you taking the time to demystify by explaining the diagnostic process. The details you provide to narrow the issue through circuit elimination are awesome . So simple watching you do it. Though more difficult in reality. Thanks for making it look easy and simple to understand.

I'm addicted to your videos since finding your channel..., when you kept one lead of the bulb to the 12v pin on the bcm connector and removed the other lead that was connected to the ground bar in the dashboard and started tapping into other circuits, it took me a while to figure out what you did there and why?? You did that because you were looking for a cirtcuit that is shorted to ground so u kept one lead to 12v pin while the other lead if it finds a ground or a short to ground it would light up... Brilliant video as always....keep it up man

Nice video. I am not against cutting a wire in the harness to break the circuit in half for testing as well if there are no good connectors around to do it. I can always solder it back together. It is always nice when they aren't intermittent as well. Those intermittent shorts can be real fun ones.

I have the same type of issue, an older Infiniti with a short to ground that instantly blows the 10 amp Room Lamp fuse. No ignition required. I can't find the energy to trace it so far, once I realized that circuit is linked to all the overhead interior lights plus the trunk light and elsewhere. Maybe this video will give me an idea and jumpstart the motivation.

@@autodiagyt I will have a look for that video. great answer I found an old relay in the garage that I soldered wires directly to decades ago On the advice of the auto electrician that sold it to me. It was a 1984 GM Vauxhall cavalier diesel and that sucker vibrated like a jack hammer. That's why he suggested soldering the wires direct lol👍👍👍

Great video. Have a question; when you started probing the connector on the dash, you had one wire stationary and another wire which you were moving around the different circuits. Question is was the stationary wire on 12V? I think this could also be done with a multimeter on continuity and beep mode. Based on your experience, are most of these fault ussually a short to ground, faulty module/connector?? Also , how did you make those probs. A video on that would nice. Awsome content.
@autodiagyt
@autodiagyt 4 ай бұрын
Yes wire is 12v, for continuity beep test every device would need to be disconnected to have any accurate test. With a bulb and volt meter I can tell if it's dead short to ground or grounding through a device. My new video about this testing method goes into more detail about this.

How well would an amp clamp work; first around a wire bundle followed by individual wires to find the light bulbs 2 Amps. Also helpful might be a slow pulsing current through the light bulb to assist in locating the short with the amp clamp.

That was more helpful than many vids out there. I was wondering where you get reliable diagrams. Did you have a scanner that can access them? And is it for pros only? My issue with this kind of work is getting past the fundamentals. Knowing what a BCM is or Battery saver relay is, etc. So the test light is connected to reliable ground and acts like a fuse to still protect from further damage? So for me its knowing how to translate a diagram to the actual circuit with certainty. Fixing a known issue is always the "easy" part. But I'll admit to being a "deer in the headlights" when I open a panel or read a fault.

I use non-insulated crimp barrel (butt) connectors when I do solder wires. They work great to secure the wires while soldering and also eliminate the stray wire poke issue. Not all wiring can be fixed by soldering, high vibration areas, on those I use them with heat shrink and sealer only as they are strong enough to hold the wires by themselves. You can get bags of the 3 major sizes of non-insulated crips cheap and they work well
