Hi everyone! This is my updated apartment tour of my one room studio here in Seoul. I've been renting it for a little over a year now and it really feels like home! It's a bit complicated to find housing in Korea so I hope this helps you out!
I pay 450,000 a month plus 20,000 service fee. I also got crazy lucky and only paid 4,000,000 for my key money/security deposit!
Here's the link to where I found my house, and where most people find their housing here :)
Good luck apartment hunting in Korea!

And to think that back home (Seattle) a studio of the same size goes for $1,500!! We love your new apartment! And that price seems like a steal. We've spent the last month apartment hunting around Namyangju (east of Seoul) and have had a really hard time finding places under 500 won per month, so I can't believe you found this in Gangnam! We'll have to try out 직방 😄

Thanks for the video, very informative! I don't quite get it, though, at 14:47 the apartment, it says you have to pay 300,000 dollars deposit?? But then the rent is only 300 dollars? Or is that 3000? And how can they expect to pay 300.000 deposit, you could buy an apartment for that money o.o Well, I guess Korea is very expensive, so maybe not, but still, it's a huge amount. I would be thankful for a reply!
@caricakes
@caricakes 5 жыл бұрын
you actually cant really buy apartments in korea (unless you want to buy the entire building) so technically, yes, youre spending 300k to not have to pay rent (or pay veeery little rent) for as long as you stay there :) as close to buying the apartment as you can get here!

cari cakes I may have just watched that 😅 I watch all videos when subscribing to someone’s channel haha. I was just curious in your opinion if you think a work visa or a residency visa would possibly be easier to get. My situation is going to be pretty much having a cosmetology license, I’m going to attempt to learn everything possible in that field so I’m more flexible. But I don’t believe that comes with any specific degree which I’m a bit worried about. I’m 26 almost 27 so if that helps (I think you mentioned age) would be nice haha

I am 3 years too late. But the zigbang tutorial is really helpful. I have two questions. 1. How do the pictures compare to the actual apartment? From your experience, what "percentage" is the accuracy? 2. How would you suggest apartment hunting? You mentioned that we should have a look at the apartment in person. But if you're going to Korea for the first time, should you check in a hotel first while doing the apartment hunt for a week? How would you recommend it? THANKS!! PLEASE NOTICE ME.

Hi! Great video, very helpful :) A little question - Is there a minimum 1 year/6 month stay or something like that? Is there a way to tell from the room description? Are there options for 4-5 months stay on 직방?

most homes have to be 1 year :( for short term you should look at goshitels/goshiwon which area for students and might rent on shorter contracts. i dont know much about that though so sorry i cant be of more help! good luck!

I think we all at some point go to a estate agent site and look at the ridiculously expensive houses, then feel shit afterwards hahaha

Thats such a nice apartment and It's the first apartment tour in Seoul Video I saw where the tenant didn't have to pay this crazy high amount for a deposit. Could you kindly still add the link where you found the apartment? Thank you so much! :)

Very helpful tutorial thx so much. Just curious, can an American traveling to Korea on a regular 90 day tourist visa rent an apartment? I'm looking to move there but would be going with no job. Is this even possible?

QUESTION! What about information about costs like electricity and water ... are they included in the monthly rent or is this extra? How do I know and is it possible to negotiate with the landlord to add it? Your video is sooo helpful! THANK YOU so much

Does the listing say if there's a lock in contract period? For example once you put down a deposit, you are locked into that room contract for 6 months or one year. Or are they monthly rentals?

Its almost always 1 year! I dont think I’ve ever seen monthly unless its one of those goshiwons which are very very small rooms for students

Cari Cakes, I know this is a long shot, since the video is quite old, but how do I find out the minimum lease-time required? For example, what if I want to rent a place for only 6 months but they require that I lease it for a minimum of 2 years? I've tried translating it, but no luck!!! Pleaseeee pretty pleaseee help :)

hmmm you'd probably have to ask the relator unfortunately - most rentals are always 1 year unless you get a goshiwon/goshitel which might be rentable monthly!! wish i could be more help...

cari cakes no no thank you SO much for responding, you rock man!!! If I may ask one more question.... Is it mandatory to have an ARC to rent through zigbang? We are here on tourist visas but HATE the Airbnb listings we have found. Only on Zigbang have we found cute apts but not sure if they would rent to tourists 😔

Your passport should be fine, but they might require a Korean bank account (most places do direct transfers and prefer it to be korean banks) you can also check out the site 'stayes' at is aimed at longer-staying tourists :) www.stayes.com/
