How to find an IP camera's RTSP URL with Wireshark!

thanks for posting this, its been over 10 years since since I done anything in wireshark or touched a cisco router, and it shows lol, I got a camera with the exact same web interface but its english, and because I was struggling with an issue I developed my vision over the last few years , I have never got the web ui to display anything but thanks to this little refresh i got the stream running in vlc - thanks again for posting

Still a great video. A lot of the recent cameras use a phone app to set up and view the camera. A trick I found here was to turn on Internet Sharing on the Mac (would work with WIndows too I presume). Then join your phone and the camera to your computer's shared internet connection. Then run wireshark as in the video. Start scanning and then start viewing the video with the app from your phone. The rtsp traffic will be seen on your computer's network interface since it all has to run through it- since you forced all three devices (computer, phone, camera) through the "router software" running on your computer. Then once you get the rtsp url, you can turn off internet sharing and change the camera back to your normal wifi network (and just replace the IP address in the URL you found with the one that it picks up from your normal wifi network).

how do i find the rtsp url of c11 camera? Wireshark did found the ip address but i need port number also to view it. Do u know about this wifi pen camera? My camera works with only one Android app called Finalcam but I want to use on PC also.

Hello , My IP camera is connected wirelessly to my router, my tab is connected to the same router, on the same network, tab has camera application and it can see the camera. My laptop which is also on the same network (wifi connection to router) hs wireshark. when I run capture on wifi I don;t see any streams of camera. What I need to do to get the stream in this capture? Need to get the RTSP url for the camera.

Hi, mi camera dont work with RSTP since the new DVR firmware update, and IE conect trow other protocol. I will try to clone the DVR mac and with a switch capture all the packets from other sources (cell, web interface), would be greate if i cand send you some packets if I cant make it work.

I'm not sure what changed but I had this work for me before and yet right now it's not:S.... I know latest version of wireshark doesn't seem to support win7, tried older version didn't work, tried win10 and still didn't work..... kinda wish I recall which ip camera I managed to get the rtsp stream from to try to reproduce the same result

The wireshark method did not work for me. WEIRD! I have been trying to figure this out for months as the NightOwl X app freezes constantly and have been looking for an alternative viewing method. Using your URL and my IP I finally got RTSP working in VLC and no issues so far! We do have a password so I added the password field to the URL. Thank you!! rtsp://IPADDRESS:554/user=User&password=Pass&channel=1&stream=1./ You can change channel by changing the number after the = and stream 0 for main stream or 1 for sub stream.

I ran my Ozwi Securcam through Wireshark but all I got were "encrypted handshake" messages. Am I out of luck?

can you force the camera to output an RTSP video stream in any way? as this traffic shouldnt be encrypted and should be visible by wireshark. Thanks,

Nah. I ran Wireshark during stream and before it and I get the same result. Nmap shows port 23 is an open telnet. I tried many of the leaked name/pass combos from the hacked Chinese IP cams and none work. Port 81 is the root directory but all it shows are "." and ".." which lead nowhere. And port 554 is the RTSP but trying it in VLC leads to "dead input" and "nothing to play" errors. Looking into the data shows that everything being sent through the "Danale" app is encrypted except for my email address used to login.

Alright I figured out how to get Wireshark to see the RTSP stream. I tried to open the stream with VLC while running Wireshark. WS does see the stream but it says bad request. Here's the message: OPTIONS rtsp://192.168.0.100:554/ RTSP/1.0 CSeq: 2 User-Agent: LibVLC/2.2.6 (LIVE555 Streaming Media v2016.02.22) RTSP/1.0 200 OK CSeq: 2 Server: Rtsp Server Public: DESCRIBE, SETUP, TEARDOWN, PLAY DESCRIBE rtsp://192.168.0.100:554/ RTSP/1.0 CSeq: 3 User-Agent: LibVLC/2.2.6 (LIVE555 Streaming Media v2016.02.22) Accept: application/sdp RTSP/1.0 400 Bad Request CSeq: 3 Server: Rtsp Server I'm just going to assume the only way I'll get anything out of this camera is if I figure out the name/pass. Otherwise I'll have to keep using its app.

You know what is interesting?! Xiaomi camera (MI 360 home security camera) does not show any sign of life. I know the IP, but nothing else. IP scanner does not even show name of the camera, nor wireshark detect any activity of this port. What might be wrong?

yeah same! I couldn't get the video with Raspberry Pi either. The IP Cam can't provide video stream plugins i think. So i am dealing with the RTSP by hoping get the frames.
