What did you do to your hand? Again good show and again thank you. Nice samples again. Sure wouldn't mind one. Lol Have a nice piece siting on my shelf. Thought it was your typical pyrite, quartz and galena. Decided to use my garrett pro over it and it went off as gold. Now yeah I may crush it and get a gram of gold if your lucky. But as a sample it's still worth a few $100. Makes a tough choice. Where do you drawl the line on crush or save? Anyway good show

Enjoyed watching this post. I'm currently engaged (for 10+ years now) in researching in preparation for writing a book about the history of gold mining here in North Carolina (Charlotte area). The 1st documented discovery of gold in the U.S. was made in this area in 1799, not in 1849 at Sutter's Mill, Ca., as many think. In fact, in the area where this first discovery took place, the first (or among the first) gold mine opened. The Reed Gold Mine is now a N.C. State Historic site. Includes a visitor center with some interesting displays...not only of gold and gold ore, but samples of the type equipment employed back in the day when the N.C. Piedmont supplied all the country's gold till 1828. Some sections of the underground workings have been restored that are quite interesting. There are also several trails that weave in and around the mine site and other old shafts and placer pits located on the property. Jeez, didn't mean to write a synopsis on N.C. gold mines and mining, but, when it's something your very interested in, and your wife has heard everything you've had to say about gold deposits and now leaves the room when she sees the gleam in your eyes when you've either finally tracked down some info. about a mine you've been looking for for years, or, sees you walking in her direction with another chunk of quartz with gold veins running through it, well..what can I say? In going out to explore what is left of some of the more than 100 mine sites/prospects/placers that were located here in Mecklenburg county/Charlotte, N.C., I've been pleasantly surprised with the amount of gold/gold ore I've found with only a modicum of effort at some of these old, forgotten mine tailings/dumps. Invariably, the host rock in which I find it in is quartz, while in other areas of the Piedmont you primarily find it in slates, hence the name the Carolina Slate Belt. Again, want to say I enjoyed your post in here, and for maybe reading some of my too long post as well. Anyone reading this and wants to talk gold, or maybe has some info. you think would be interesting/helpful in my quest of N.C. gold mining history, please feel free to shoot me an e-mail billcr26@gmail.com Regards, Bill Randolph

I have a question my family has about 100 acres of land in the north Georgia mountains about 6 miles from the town of Dahlonega north of Dahlonega. My question is it's been in our family for decades. We have mountains and then we have a creek. that's a good way away probably a couple acres away from the bottom of the mountain, so there's no old minds or anything like that. I think it's pretty much untouched land if I wanted to look, where would I start? I have some in the creek. I haven't found anything but every rock I have brought back. It's been highly mineralized on the top of the mountain middle of the mountain or the bottom of the mountain if I wanted to try to look on dryland, where would I look?

@911mining
@911mining 6 жыл бұрын
Fools gold is another term for iron pyrite, as it can fool the amateur prospector. However fools gold isn't always just iron and sulfur, we have multiple claims which hold iron pyrites with good grades of gold and other replacement metals. Everyone is always after the big nuggets and free gold, but leaves sulphides untouched, I will say this most minerals we find are from volcanic or hydrothermal activity and more often than not associated with pyrites or some sulphides.

In thinking, weight should be an added bonus to discussions, some rocks are of same volume or size yet the weight of one is not comparable to the other. So much to learn and so little time to delve further into such an interesting subject such as rocks, Mega thanks for the prompt reply

So in those samples the stuff that looks like gold is gold or chalcopyrite? Is there anyway to know just by eye if its gold or pyrite? Thanks. Love the videos. Wish I had as much schooling on geology it would make my gold adventures more profitable no doubt.
@911mining
@911mining 6 жыл бұрын
Yes you can tell gold has a different look than chalcopyrite if you tilt your rock gold will stay the same shine and is a more buttery looking color, chalcopyrite reflects differently. Gold is usually not visible to the naked eye if it's under 30 grams per ton. You would need some magnification to see it.

I have hundreds of theses types of rocks we found in the creeks, rivers of Rockies. Are these worth anything? I think I have a few rocks that might have some diamonds in them? How do I figure that out? Do we try o tie off the eroding to find out or will it ruin the minerals? I’m so lost! Lol

Alright so the area that I’m in is high in limestone . What I think I have is fool’s gold it has a decent iron content and a possible calcite crystal ( sulfide ) that shows off a gold looking color in a possible contact zone. The area is not known for gold content. Some of the samples have rust color were the gold color should be exposed

@DeliciousDeBlair 5 жыл бұрын
@@nagabadavid8028 I aim to rig up a power dredger to lower down my well to remove all of the fine material and once I have it all top side, carefully screen and evaluate it for anything useful and valuable. I am hoping that minerals found are beneath my land, but it is entirely possible that it is flowing down through an aquifer and could be from many miles away. Still, at least if it proves to be something valuable, I can estimate if it is worth while to pursue. I am guessing I might be able to dredge 10 plus tons of silt from the well bore, depending on how many openings are there, so there might be enough there to get a vague idea if 'wet load sluice mining' is an option. If so [HUGE IF], I would reactivate a shallow nearby well, and just use this well purely for wet dredge mining until it stops yielding anything of value.
