My local running shoe store carried both flavors of a particular race day shoe brand, in my size. I tried on the pair of flavor 1 and ran around the block. I tried on the pair of flavor 2 and ran around the block. Then I put one shoe from flavor 1 on the right foot, and one shoe from flavor 2 on the left foot and ran around the block. Then I put one shoe from flavor 1 on the left foot, and one shoe from flavor 2 on the right foot and ran around the block. One flavor clearly worked better for me than the other. That's how I chose my race day shoe.

Excellent video Aubrey. If I have to recommend one shoe it would be the Metaspeed Sky Paris. I will use it for my next marathon in November even if I run it close to 4h😅. I now specialists says this shoe is for people who run between 2h and 2h30. Who cares ! It’s like the Rebellion Pro 2. I will certainly run the half marathon with it one month before.

I would recommend buying the last version or even 2 year old version 🤷🏻♂️. You don’t “need” the latest version. If you’re in a budget, find bargains, clearances or even used shoes. Don’t have to break the piggy bank for race day shoes. I’m still running in my 2019 vaporflys and endo pro 2 🤷🏻♂️ ( i only use them on race day and they still perform well).

Great video ... but Aubrey ... first showing the NB Elite v4 and then not recommending it? 😁 Exactly my marathon race shoe for Berlin :) :) ... honestly ... talking about comfort. When it comes to half marathons and marathons comfort matters ... and as a heel striker I get much more comfort out of a shoe like the Elite v4 or the Saucony Endporphine Pro then some other shoes ... like the Nike Vaporfly, that is narrower and more suited for those who are midfoot strikers to all reading this: if these shoes Aubrey talked about are to expensive a good alternative is the Saucony Endorphine Speed ... it's less agresiv, has a nylon plate, but a good option for us midpack runners ✌

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 loved this format! Ok. Shoes. (Oh my god! Shoes, lol. IYKYK) My favorite pair of race shoes to this day is still the new balance SC Elite 3 (only bc I haven’t gotten the 4s, yet). They’re bouncy yet firm and have a good toe box for my bunions. Were they expensive? YEA. Do I look cool and run faster? HECK YEA! Now for everyday bargain shoe that can do most things? I’m going to say the Asics Novablast 4s. What a shoe. That foam is like nothing else I’ve ever experienced. Looks good on the feet and price is approachable too. Honorable mention for me is the Brooks Ghost Max 2. Also affordable and durable. Brooks is great for us oldies with lax joints 😂. But the shoe is hideous- that’s my only concern on this one. It’s just ugly in all colorways. 🫠🤷🏾♀️

Hi Aubrey, Love your content, saw you at Worthing 10k btw. In terms of durability, as someone who supinates, the Adios Pro 3 get my vote, so much so that I use them for long runs as well as race day shoes for longer distances (marathons). For shorter distances, I use the Vaportfly's. I am a shoe-aholic (my wife calls me Emelda Marcos), and I have a number of supershoes (bought at discount when they turn up - Mizuno Rebellion pro, Puma Deviate Elite, Fast-R, Alphafly's, Streakfly, etc) but they are mainly used for parkruns, tempo and interval sessions. If money was no object, then it would be the Evo's.

1. Saucony Endorphin Pro 3: Super comfortable and stable carbon racer. 2. Saucony Endorphin Speed 3: More flexible, slightly less stable trainer-racer with a nylon plate. 3. Atreyu Race Model (runner up): Affordable carbon racer--comfortable and squishy; may be too unstable for some.

Best race? Nike Vaporfly 1 or 2, way better than V3 in my view. But if money is tight, then a Puma Deviate Nitro 2. It can do it all, long runs, tempo, racing, super versatile, last well and just a great shoe. Also, don't be shy of buying 2nd hand from Vinted or eBay, there are bargains to be had there.

@@MrCarFanaticThere might be some confusion. You ran HM in Puma Deviate Nitro 2.But Aubrey is talking about Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3.This shoe is a proper racing shoe with its predecessor being Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 2. While the shoe you did your HM is Puma Deviate Nitro 2 is a training shoe with the new version called Puma Deviate Nitro 3. They are widely different shoes. The big difference being the weight which is 40 grams less on the elite version.Infact the elite 3 version is even lighter with more stack.Plus the elite version is complete racing foam.Whereas the Puma Deviate Nitro 2 has an upper layer of racing foam and bottom layer of Puma Nitro foam. In my size UK 7 Puma Deviate Nitro 2 weighs in at 242 grams and Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 2 weighs in at 206 grams. But Elite 3 with its more stack is more suited for a HM and may be Marathon also whereas Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 2 with it's lesser stack might be more suitable for upto 10k race imo.

Imo carbon plate shoes until 4:30/km pace or less is a waste. Those shoes need fast pace to use any advantage of it

I hear the same kind of advice too so that’s fair enough. I think another factor to consider is the weight of the runner too because how I impact the carbon is different.
