For cartridge based consoles, look for no-intro roms, for disc based consoles, look for redump isos/bin and cue/gdi files (like the ps2 one by AlvRo, renowned guy in the community, in the video)

It’s September 2024, and I can confirm that all the steps he outlined in here are the exact way to NOT download these files. I kept running into a weird situation where I was accidentally downloading some files and this helped me figure out exactly what I was doing wrong and the steps to make sure I don’t download the files. As an archivist at heart, or let's be honest, a data pack rat... I love that the community is doing a fantastic job of preserving the history of gaming. I think there should be a gov't bureau of preservation doing this though, with experts actually paid for the work of carefully collecting and curating it all.

In no way am i advocating for anyone to download these files, but if you where perhaps looking for a specific file to absolutely not install, I would suggest copying and pasting the list into a word document and use the search function on word to find a specific title

I have the Raspberry Pi 4B 8GB in the Vilros keyboard/touchpad hub with a 8bitdo N30 wireless mouse. I run Berryboot Lakka and Berryboot Retro Pi mostly with a wired Playstation 4 clone controller. I have found picking and choosing your favorites for each system is way better than having everything on there. It can get to be a mess otherwise and if you're not going to play them it can save memory and memory is everything.

It's easy to find roms, now the harder question is who to contact to translate the J roms, as most foIks say we dont take requests when it comes to translation

All joking aside, in many cases, downloading something online that you didn't pay for isn't a crime, IMO. Piracy was just a made-up way for some greedy people to try and make everyone feel bad for not paying them their extortion fees. Why can't people just be happy to benefit society? They made their killing on these titles many years ago when they came out, no reason there should be an issue with someone enjoying it for free 30 years later. Besides a lot of the games im looking for, I did pay for when i was younger, so in my eyes, I still have rights to them.
