Calculating the exact tempo without a metronome would be tricky, I believe that is a skill that you'd have to develop over time. You can tap along to the beat, and there is even a metronome that you tap the beat into and it calculates the BPM. The problem is when I get into daw a 120 bpm at 4/4 is different AF than 6/8 or 3/4 etc wth is this 😂 how do I determine this is what I wanna know

You can select the units of measure (quarter notes, eighth notes, etc.) that you want each metronome click to represent. Some players choose to make their metronome clicks represent eighth notes. This is particularly common when eighth notes are themselves part of the time signature, such as 6/8 time or 9/8 time.
