Thanks everyone for all your lovely comments! Genuinely. This video is one of my favourite videos that I've ever made so it means a lot. Here are the main exercises: Direction (for me) can be a byproduct of the following three things: 1. Feeling like your timeline is finite 2. Understanding that compromise is inevitable 3. Cultivating self-belief Exercises for cultivating those three things: FINITE TIMELINE: (Both corny questions, but they work) 1. What would you do if you had X amount of time to live? X Can be 6 months, 5 years, or 20. Whatever time amount gets you excited. 2. What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail? COMPROMISE IS INEVITABLE: What does the __(see list)__ side of you want for your life? • Sensible • Lifestyle-orientated • Relationship-orientated • Ambitious • Altruistic Write down any commonalities. SELF BELIEF: Recognise the unconscious rules you live your life by and question them until you find their root. PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER: 1. Write down everything you wanted 5 years ago. 2. Write down everything you want now. 3. Write down everything you think you'll want in 5 years Now write a small description of your ideal life, covering what you do, who you're with, and where you are - and don't overthink it. You can change it whenever, but for now, it's a pretty good guess at your direction in life. Hope that helps!!

It's hard to find someone who talks about self-improvement without promoting the idea that you just need to force yourself to do things and have more "discipline." These kinds of exercises are so similar to what I already do/what has worked for me, so it's nice to find content that gives me more ideas and expands on what I already know is constructive.

In the "everything that you want now" exercise I just wrote out of the blue: "Learn that self love is something that I should give myself unconditionally and that it's not reward or something that I have to earn" and idk I find it weirdly inspirational. So if you read this, you are worthy of loving yourself❤

Thanks for sharing - it’s dawned on my self that I know only one person that knows my every hardship, every success, and every mundane moment in life - me. My self may try to ignore my love but can never deny of its omnipresence. At some point, hopefully with practice, my self opens up and accepts all of my love. I hadn’t reflected on this deeply enough, but my love is unconditional in those I care about. I’ve always given them my patience and understanding for their failures and successes. I know that they will strive and stumble through moments at various stages in life. My unconditional love is there for others whether they need it or not. Likewise, if my family and friends express their love, I can’t deny it. It’s not mine to deny. And the same goes for my self-love - ignorable, for sure, but never outright deniable.

Hey Campbell, I might be early enough for you to catch this, so I hope you get to read this. I was pretty depressed at the start of this year. Lockdown and the resulting remote work had me down in the dumps and my motivation hit rock bottom. Watching your videos has been the first stepping stone for getting out of that situation. Since then I've binged your content, read the book, did a lot of introspection and made changes in my life. This year I finally made the jump to running my own business part time, I'm currently 4 months sober and I'm in a totally different place mentally then a year ago. This has taken me a lot of work, and there have been rough patches for sure, but I couldn't be happier with how this year turned out and I want to thank you for being a big part of that change. As someone with similar old dreams I have another explanation. At least for myself. Daydreaming is safe. It's a fantasy that is at its most beautiful precisely because it is far away. Really going for it means you have to get closer and face reality, which has a very real chance of disappointing you. Also, if you don't follow your dreams, you can then reason with yourself that you haven't really failed. Since you never actually tried. I still have other dreams. Time for some new years resolutions I guess. Which by the way, would be interesting for me to watch from your perspective. :)

I started an office job doing admin at a law firm less than 2 weeks after my final uni exam in order to avoid bad MH over summer/post-graduation from not having anything to do, but I recently realised I'm wasting the creative talents I cultivated when I was younger. The notes I took from this have helped me see and understand what drives me and what I want to aim for, and I'm feeling so much better about the things that lie before me. The "not choosing a path is choosing a path" part really resonated with me. Retreating into your comfort zone during a difficult few years is only a temporary solution, and I think this video is one of a few new things in my life to help me start to come out of that shell and really go after what I want and live a purposeful life. Thank you.

You can always go back to school in time, when or if you are ready ( i started uni at 40!). If you need time out then that's what you do, give yourself time to work out where your life goes next - the world is so fast with everyone rushing around trying to get so much done. Slowing on down is ok!. With anxiety I found things helped if I may share. 1 a quote: most of my worries in life were things that never happened. Thinking logically have all of your worries come true? Some may but not all of them. So breathe through it and try not to worry so much. 2 you are clever, you can problem solve - how many problems have you failed to solve? Maybe some because that's life but the majority of them you have dealt with. I dont know what you are anxious about but you are not powerless. Sometimes the solution just takes a little time to come. 3 think of yourself in 3 months time or 6 months time, just laughing at yourself because you were worried about that thing. It might make the thing feel smaller. I remind myself all the time of the science of anxiety - it kicks in fast and overrides the reasoning part of the brain so it's hard to argue with your anxiety. I mentally hit it with a baseball bat and give myself time to take a breath and think it through. I hope you are doing ok.

@@FilipKotula hope you're doing better than when you posted your comment 4 months ago, even a little. I didnt go back to school until i was 21 after I graduated and I find the thing I've observed the most is that a lot of people would really benefit from a year or two away from a more rigid school environment to just let their soul breathe. Even now at 23 I ended up deferring for a year just because it felt like pushing myself to keep doing something, even art focused, wasn't going to be beneficial for being able to absorb whatever it is I wanted to learn because of my state of mind. I'm really glad I listened to that feeling because this year hasnt been amazing for me either, my cat died a few months ago super suddenly and there's been a lot of weird ups and downs of motivational energy and general outlook on things like, "things are fine" and "things suck real hard but what can you do". I guess this is where i've found myself like you and most others in the comments here to see what things i can try to steer myself in a more helpful direction my main point thought with that whole block of text is that, if school is where you really want to go back to and finish and follow through, amazing, but don't rush yourself. if you dont feel ready or in the right state of mind, thats okay. take the time to sort out whats been in the back of the brain archives n just actually live life for a little bit. Like you said, you deserve a break and the time to just gather your thoughts and put the foundations for a healthier and more pleasant state of being. be patient and kind to yourself, theres a lot to learn and relearn when it comes to thought patterns and learned response but you'll get to where you wanna be in time :) School will be there when you're ready, take care of yourself first.

I used to an aspiring software engineer back when I was 20. But I wasn't willing to put aside 60+ hours per week before the computer. Data structures and algorithms all bored me to the bone. Imposter syndrome was all on a rage and many times I questioned my own motives, my own "whys". It wasn't easy to find an answer to such a big question, but now I do. Often times it's because of the lifestyle it promises and the person that job would make me. Plus the insecurities of being an indie developer and the fact that you have to manage everything yourself. Quitting it has been more or less a good decision.

I am the musician who quit her job two years ago to "pursue my passion" and I totally resonated with what you said about it being "much harder than expected and how we thought it would be easy cause we love it." There are parts of the job that are difficult (finding the money + social media for me) and parts of the job that are fulfilling (creating music + connecting with people around the thing you create). And I didn't realize how much work it would take. I put in the work but it's leaving me tired and wondering, can I carry on like this? Is this sustainable in the long run??? Hence, the timing of this video is impeccable. Did the first exercise but the bosses analogy is soo gooood! Calling out inevitable compromise is wise. Reminds me of something Mark Manson said. here's the thing i learned when i were a few years younger than i am now... when someone comes up to you, excited about- y'know... whatever it is, positivity costs nothing. kinds words are free. in regards to the uncle laughing at the kids ambitions, it cost nothing for him to just turn it into encouragement. heck, the kid could have even made it, and made it worthwhile.. that kindness, could have turned into pride, if this kid actually built a rollercoaster to the moon. i know it's kinda cliche by now, but it's still so true. i lived a LONG angry, hateful life and i'm turning 30 in like 3 weeks, and i hate feeling just so emotionally constipated and angry.. so i do my best to go against how i was raised, in hate, spite and etc. it's a slow process, but i'm getting there. thank you for this video, and thank whomever may have taken the time to read this as well!

I should get on that) been lurking in this little corner of youtube for a while, and it's been really helping me this year to keep both hope and focus towards improving my life. I still have far to go, but looking back I've clawed myself out of a deep pit, and I want to keep climbing, gathering more tools (like an ADHD diagnosis, medication, coaching, and support from loved ones) along the way. As an older person, the suggestion to play with the timeline on the question at 4:21 was really helpful. If I only had six months left I don't honestly think I would change very much. If I knew for sure that I'd still be here in 10 years, what would I want to have done with the time? That question totally changes how I think about caring for my body, relationships, and living space. Six months feels like an almost disposable timeline.

I found the part of your book where you asked where the opinions you think are yours have actually come from. Found a few 'well meaning' folks in some of my core beliefs. Slowly directing those beliefs to the door. I think also looking at good friends helps here. Not the friends who you know only from their highlights reel on social media, but people you've shared the ups and downs with. An old school friend of mine has just begun a compromise job in her dream city, and the location makes the job compromise worth it. She's having such a good time. I'm stoked for her and want the same for myself. Kicked me into action I can tell you

Solid advice! I love the one about self-belief. You just have to pick a direction and run with it AND GIVE IT TIME. That’s where the self-belief needs to kick in - in order to keep you going through the initial hurdles you might face. Great video! 🙌

I appreciate and relate to your content so much! I'm 29 and have been paying closer attention to my behavioral patters over the past couple years and damn...there's been lots to unpack lol. One thing I've struggled with over the past few years is laziness and procrastination. I love tricking myself with busyness that doesn't actually move me towards my goals, and then I end up overworking myself and slip into months of feeling unmotivated while doing absolutely nothing. I'm looking forward to practicing starting tasks and staying focused enough to complete tasks and projects I set out to do. Your videos help put words to experiences I didn't understand! Cheers to everyone finding their way in this life, we got this!

Thank you. I stopped as you suggested and answered all the questions (3 pages on word doc) and realised that 1. the important things are the same in all time frames: people, nature, creativity and wonderful life experiences 2. none of the important things has anything to do with success, money or fame 3. I am on the right path to having all the experiences I want to have.

Here's what I wrote down for my 5 bullet points at 4:49. I'll be back here in 6 months on the dot to see how I've done: 1) Lose weight - Im not obese, but definitely got some Pandemic Pounds on me, and I want to be healthier. Goal is to lose 25 pounds. 2) Study and produce art more consistently - this is something I'm already doing, just I wanna ramp it up more. For the first time I've signed up for online art classes through CGMA which I hope will bring my art from intermediate and start putting me on that path towards professional art. 3) Start working on *that* comic - I have had this idea for a self contained comic I've wanted to make for months now, and I've designed a lot of the characters, but just haven't started it yet. Havent pulled the trigger on it. 4) Reconnect with those I have lost, and disconnect from those I know aren't good for me - I've fallen out of touch from certain people in my life who we never really had any ill will towards each other, just, life happens. And on the flipside, there are certain people in my life I want to back off from and get away from their toxic relationships. 5) Land a job that is fulfilling and pays okay enough. Recently been applying like crazy to a bunch of education and nonprofit based positions (the one thing i have them most experience in aside from retail bullshit). I've done 90 applications, only landed 2 interviews, but I gotta keep on trucking along if I wanna move forward professionally.

writing out this whole thing forced me to face the fact that i not only want a new job, i want to completely change the trajectory of my career. i'm not even sure what direction to go in with that though. i have ideas of how i want to feel and vague ideas of how much money i want to make, but i can't really search indeed based on whether they'll appreciate how much i bring to the table. this is my perpetual problem of not knowing whether i'll actually enjoy or succeed at any given job before i'm actually doing the job. genuinely asking, how do i figure out what jobs i want to apply for, when all i know that i want is the right vibe?

Im only 14 and these are lessons I've learned after years of trying to find out who I am. The only one who can define you is well.. you. When you feel pain or sadness or anger and bad emotions don't push them away and forget them let it become part of you these emotions are part of life let your self feel. Do more then you think your are capable of or you will never be more than you are at this moment. There is no secret purpose to life it's just you. You don't get to decide your beginning but you get to decide your fate so who are you meant to be. You can't change who you are for example imagine a tree sure mabey you can change the healthiness of it or choose when the leaves fall or planted the seed but it will always be a tree you can't change who you are. I found my purpose as a leader and to show that people can bring eachother together and that change is possible.

Yeah Way ! The principals for all true belief systems ARE essentially the same Good Orderly Directions a.k.a. GOD Wow --- far out ! And down to earth . Now everything makes more perfect sense ! Thanks for thee head's-up yawl ! however Talk about corruption ! The blood of Jesus is not a blank check to do nothing or be like 'whatever'. Don't just sit there neutralized by blissful ignorance ! "Beware of the genetic-molesting 'leaven' (artificial sugar-coated lie bull HOOKS) of the so-called 'authorities' and scribes trying to sell us all out to the highest bidders." Actually jesus flipped out on the diabolical barbaric practice of selling innocent critters to be kosher slaughtered on the altar in the temple --- as a bogus way for schmuck human-cattle to have their 'sins' forgiven. the original sin was being schmuck enough to eat the forbidden fruit eggs and flesh of innocent critters like snakes do . (suffering causes suffering) Eating innocent critters is very bad karma indeed . thank goodness jesus stuck his own neck out to remind us that forgiveness depends on how we treat even the least of our bretheren ... (How would you like it if nobody cared enough to help you get out of the death-trap pits and snares ?) Man wouldn't it be great if someone else would die so that nobody would ever be held accountable for any sins anymore ? --- sure looks like spreading the other cheek further for the pedophile preistclass to rape everything more easily is backfiring big time ... Too bad --- Easy believers make it way too easy for the great deceivers... The last thing jesus wants to see when he returns with a serious vengence is a another death worshipping meat-cult double-cross... B-Less schmuckered yawl ! we best not let anyone try to scare the friggin Be-jesus outta any of us ! even Greater works than these kinda ones like our prince of peace performs super naturally through us faithfull free radical followers --- shall become the new normal ... Become the type of light worker you want to see in this world ... Like the good shepherd likes to say : "my joke is sweet --- and my burden is LIGHT !" for every step in the right direction we take --- the sun of god takes ten more for us ... get ready for G--ZEUS to return outta the clouds with a batta-Lion of starships (and sun dragons) armed to the teeth --- while the vast army of murdalized martyrs and resurrected saints go marching in with a seriously hilarious vengeance ! --- Leaving No ( peace, happiness, and freedom loving ) stoner left unturned into a hero of sorts ... Thank goodness for thee Divine down to earth Principals of : Peace --- kindness Purity --- integrity Ballance --- mindfullness Patience --- trust Strength --- will power Generosity --- forgiveness Encouragement --- joy Wonder --- insight and Enlightenment --- upliftment ... Anyhow --- Less B-Less-ing and More Best-owing to all yawl ! in all ways remember to stay thankfull and Ask thee GREAT spirit And THEE MOST HIGH intelligent designer located in the heart of all creation for guidance on how we can redeem ourselves most effectively --- rather than merely sit around aimlessly waiting for great pumpkin pie lies in the sky to save us ... So take heed --- and hold fast because the cosmic-director don't take too kindly to procrastinating i - do - laters who delay helping themselves realize how to instruct those that oppose themselves from being more brilliantly redeemed and grateful than ever before ... Muchos Grassyass ! And Goddesspeed ! (Schumann resonance has been off the charts lately) Sure Looks to me Like Empirical evidence of the thee Most High --- blasting out brilliant freedom rock riffs on rainbow coloured guitar strings ! (Guess we'll just have to wait until it dawns on ALL of us !) Lighten up ! And stay positive yet vigilant... And again yawl --- thanks for helping to keep the ideal --- real ! Check out this other stellar alternative cosmic solar weather report : this awesome looking nasa footage of what appears to be a giant black space serpent getting blasted by the sun : kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmHNmJ6ldpiMrcU interesting --- how NASA stands for never a solid answer . the spooks are actively blocking huge chunks of their own data and it's making all the independent space watchers wonder what the heck they are trying so hard to hide ... Be aware of the new age pedophile preistclass deceptacon hex-nut Luciferian transhumanist one world religion however. 5D --- or 5G ? if you think the wages for schmucking the whole world into going to war against everything pure and natural and good are astronomically enormous --- yer darn friggin right ! Watch out for them multidimensional illegal-alien shapeshifter demons trying to use celebutard mouthpieces like meat-puppets to sell us all out on the fantasy 5D Deceptacon hex-nut deception --- of trading in our original divine organic living body soul vehicles --- for Crystalline bodies sure sounds more like more transhumanist hogwash motherschmuckery (to this here proud grateful indigenous earthling) Anyhow --- We best not let ANYBODY try to scare or finagle the friggin Be-jesus outta any of US ! So yeah --- ( i know ) good luck with THAT ! Thee Light of god is written in our hearts . . . so Hold FAST and Goddesspeed yawl !

I find it extremely amazing how good the bosses part is. Just insane how accurate this is, at least for me! The example about the office life, wow, that's me right now. Graduated 2 years ago (25 now), got a job as an Industrial Engineer at the world leading semi-conductor company. So, title yeah cool, very good income, decent people but I make other people proud, BUT holy Luka the Liver is so angry with me right now! This because I'm such a dreamer and since first year of university I promised myself to go after my dreams and this office life is just not for me at all, and look at me now... And as you said, everyone is calibrated differently and some bosses way heavier than others. I have a huge passion for skiing and surfing, and recently year also in photo and video. I am just imagining a life where I can combine being active and do my passions daily while for example make content for pro athletes and/or companies within this industry. Wauw man, watched this video twice already and saved it to watch it more times. Much much love from the Netherlands man, Subscribed!!

I always like to bring the example of my sister who is a doctor. She went into it to prove herself to everyone. Convinced that the hardest path would give the most rewards. She graduated in the middle of depression and stress that only got worse and worse as time went on. She was helping people, raising her social status, had bragging rights, decent pay, etc... She hated herself cause she never really wanted to do this. She did it because she thought the bragging rights and recognition would fulfill her. Years of working in misery. Now she is a baby sitter and is more stable and content with life than ever. People like to put random values on different careers that won't align with how your brain works.

I feel like most of us watching this or struggling with „finding our path“ are in reality struggling to pinpoint the path we want to pursue, kind of knowing what we want to do and what our path can be, but are too afraid or too cautious. For me it is very helpful to look at me from the outside, asking myself what I would tell a friend struggling with that. Maybe you already believe in yourself and are kind enough to yourself so you don’t need to do that- if not try it out, I hope it helps some of you to answer the questions in this video and find your path- or the belief you need to start pursuing it

Crazy good video. I did the exercises and had a couple of eye-opening moments in there. I am 40 and had a lot of different "paths" in my life but none taken like really, seriously. You made me realise my family made me put all the importance to Aziz and Selma in my early years, which led to compensating with Luka A LOT after graduation, which made me not choose any path just dip my toes everywhere and now I've arrived to a point where I just want Freya (though I kinda start missing Aziz), thinking it will cure me but in reality what I need is All of those Crazy Heads balanced!! Simple, but I needed your video to make sense of my life. Thanks @Struthless, always a fan.

Thank you for helping me listen to and trust in myself when I feel scared shitless because of the limitations I face (literal ones, I have a chronic illness). It helps me keep my feet on the ground, breathe, remember the direction and to not rush and push and stress. But man, THAT is the hardest part for me. To trust in something that might take many, many years to develop because my pace has to be so slow. I'm naturally an energetic and highly driven person, I'm eager So often, but I have to pace myself nowadays, because eagerness burns me out in no time. It's the weirdest paradox of my life - to move forward through stepping back and not in the least controlling the tempo. And _trust_ is truly the hardest part of that. It's stressful, and anxiety-inducing. And I have to keep reminding myself of acceptance and of letting go (of many things, not in the least preconceived notions about how things are "supposed to be"), and keep remembering that also snails have direction. So I guess I'm a pretty determined snail, when it comes down to it. Snail The Stubborn. Yeah. That's who I'm gonna be. Thanks again! You rock!

I’m in a very similar situation and I understand your frustration! You’re not alone. Your self knowledge will keep you on the path, even when the pace gets discouraging. All the best to you!
