My favorite takeaway is to prioritize clothing appropriate for settings I spend a lot of time in. I’ve started making a lot of my own clothing because prices are high and durability low, recently. So I really have to think hard about the usefulness of garments even when I’m choosing the fabric. This is helpful.

I've been really thinking of getting into sewing because I want to tailor a lot of clothing, especially jeans. I always have this problem of my jeans being too loose at the waist but tight at the thighs. Also I'm so obsessed with baggy jeans but most are lose at the waist and if I get a size that actually fits my waist, it doesn't give that extra baggy effect. Do you have any tips on this?? Also any online resources where I can learn basic sewing?
@artisticnotcrazy5 ай бұрын
@@Shion-u8l KZbin is actually a very good place to find sewing guides and tutorials, especially once you get the recommendation algorithm used to them. Denim tends to have its own tricks different from lighter fabrics. For your fit issues, it sounds like you might have to play with darts or alter a basic pattern. Pinterest has a lot of graphics that show finished garments next to their pieces- these might help you find the right shapes for your desired pattern. Dollar store gift wrap or cheap tissue paper can be good for making modified patterns.

As a college student who is getting into lolita j-fashion, the prioritization of time spent in places while building your wardrobe is essential for me as most of the lolita dresses and accessories tend to be expensive and most of the available inspo tend to be over the top.

I think, a lit of indie Lolita brands are cheaper than big brands like ap or btssb I personally prefer buying from small businesses to support small artists (and their clothes are also cheaper and more unique)

As a brown girl, I find that some western clothing just wasn't made for me. For example, I'm fairly skinny but my upper arms look larger in proportion to the rest of my body, this is normal for south asian women. So I find that wearing spaghetti straps looks terrible with my frame. Instead I make sure the tops I buy have a slight flare at the strap, or even a short puff sleeve. Otherwise long sleeves also look amazing on me (I'm a cardigan girly). Another example is that my thighs are, not really big, but they aren't super skinny despite having a thigh gap. So I tend to wear dresses that end just above or below the knee and it looks great. I take inspiration from bollywood actresses like dipika padokun and rani mukarji because they have a similar body shape to mine. I also take note of the colours they wear and how it looks on their skin colour. I then find clothing items similar to the outfits they wear in some of their films. So I say, take note of how your ethnicity may wear western clothing, compared to how white or east asian women wear clothing. This also applies to make-up :)

Perfect timing - and great tips as always! 😃 it is actually genius to cover the models face, and add it to pictures of school/work enovirement - that might end up being a game changer. One thing I have been working on is to visualise myself as a cartoon character. (if I had no fear of how I was perceived😅) What would my core outfits be? What would my personality/vibe be like? Looking at characters from actual cartoons, which style do I tend to be drawn to, and what about them is it I like? And I actually managed to find out quite a bit. I found that this character would go for more basic/simple clothing, and play it up with accessories. Going for lots of texture, instead of heavy prints. Flowy, yet curve defining outfit elements. Opposing elements (for example a feminine dress with chunky ankle boots or sneakers, or a feminine lace top with flared pants). Always 2-3 colors, typically black, blue, green and pink. Muted/pastel tones, never monochromatic. Focus on vertical lines more than horizontal (with a few exceptions). I think in the past, I have tried to add interest by prints, wild colors and elaborate clothing items. Very little accessories. But it never looked felt right. I am hoping this little project will actually help me build a wardrobe I feel good in. I tried wearing an outfit by my 'cartoon formula', and I felt more confident than I had felt in years! 🙌
@YumeraChauque5 ай бұрын
I love that idea of imagine if you were a cartoon character,what woud I be or which types of character I am drown to? For example, I normaly like smart,stylish/cute/glamour and rebelious/deep character That really resonate with me,a good example of that would be Rarity,Twighlight from equestria girls and draculaura from Monster high😂,and my style natural switch form one to another depending on my mood.
@HereIAm2475 ай бұрын
@@YumeraChauque Exactly - it actually helps a lot in defining your true style (regardless of if that is the way you dress daily) 😄 So you seem to like pink and purple, touch of goth/mystic, and a fitted top/puffy skirt look? 😄 You like that - but do you dress with elements of this? If you (as you actually are) were drawn as a cartoon character, what would her hair and outfit/accessories/colors look like? I for example love Ashley from Recess, Megara from Hercules, Chel from El Dorado, Mulans matchmaker outfit, Kida from Atlantis, just to name a few. All very different characters. And it is not nessicarily that I would wear any of their styles. But all of these had accessories, and/or a flowy element to them. The best ones had both. So I drew up a cartoon impression of myself (a VERY rough sketch 😅), and what outfit and what accessories I would wear if I was a cartoon character. It doesn't resemble any of the other characters - they just helped me figure out what it is that I like.

Sometimes online shops use different products in their example pictures (that way you really don't know what you're buying: the pretty garment, usually used for the first photos, or the costumey stuff lol).

I reality is some clothes isnt made for certain body shapes. As someone with a small body but busty af, it is difficult to find cute clothes because the chest area is too tight, doesnt fit causing getting a bigger size baggy, or it doesnt close in the front or get past the bust. So yeah knowing how to sew is the best decision ever.

I always had this problem too!!! For ages I thought I didn’t know what I liked and that I mustn’t have my own sense of style but I’ve realised that I just like novelty 😂 It seems obvious now that I know but realising this has been so helpful!!! It’s more helpful for me to find a base style that makes it easy for me to add new/interesting details rather than to fit my whole style to one aesthetic. And I can prioritise what I want to match, I like my shoes and jacket to coordinate so I keep those basic but it doesn’t make getting ready difficult if I have too many hair accessories. Dresses are also good for novelty because I don’t have to match the top and bottoms! It also helps to try new things in other areas of life 😊

Attitudes towards fat are mainly cultural or personal preferences. Your comment makes it sound like it's easy or an absolute must to lose weight, but sometimes weight loss is unfeasible or unsustainable for others. This is because of a litany of equally valid reasons that differ from person to person. Comfort and health should be people's main priorities. Finding clothing that adapts to these priorities as well as makes one feel confident and cute is a great approach to curating a personal wardrobe. Let's encourage that option.
