Today’s episode is a #masterclass on finding your #purpose, listening to your gut, and never giving up (no matter what other people say).
You’re about to meet a woman who went from serving up stacks of pancakes at Denny’s to creating a billion-dollar product that would help millions of #women around the world feel #confident in their own skin.
It was such a success that L'Oréal recently bought her company for $1.2 billion dollars.
I’m talking about none other than Jamie Kern Lima, the founder of @ITCosmeticsvideo
And if you think that her purpose in life was to create a cosmetics company, you’d be wrong.
The topic of purpose is essential and misunderstood, so today I’ll teach you how to truly find your purpose using Jamie’s inspiring story and tactical tools every step of the way.

I just wanted to reach out to Mel and tell her that she is on the right track. I know your talk show would have been amazing, but this podcast format is reaching an exponentially broader audience therefore touching more lives than any television show ever, and will be available for replay for a much longer time than on any other television streaming service. Plus, the vital benefit of a hungry audience! So I say congratulations! I am so happy for you and your audience that you get this opportunity, its not a 'boobie prize', it is the top prize!

I agree! I loved seeing Mel with Hoda on tv recently, I love seeing Mel anywhere. But there is something about the intimacy of the podcast, and knowing you are in her house, that makes me feel truly a part of her life. I mean, if I ever am lucky enough to meet her, I'll probably way, "Oh lookie there! It's my friend, Mel!" because this little person on my computer screen manages to actually make me like she is truly my friend. It's so weird. But not in a bad way.

True, this feels more authentic to me and less cliche like a talk show feels. Also I never saw a single episode of the talk show because it’s not free.

QUESTION FOR JAMIE: First off, thank you both for the time you spend helping others. If you have no support system/family, completely starting over in your 50s, (Career and financially), and have no clue where to begin but you know inside you have something really powerful to give to the world, how do you begin? How do you find your purpose? At times I feel like a failure at this age not knowing. It is something that I keep to myself and swim in a sea of thoughts daily on what is my purpose? Is my story valid? Do I have a purpose?

@DTD you described “ME.” These are the things I struggle with daily. I DID start a legitimate business in 2018 that I originally operated out of my home kitchen as a “hobby” for about 6 years. The business was slowly building, and so was my confidence and the growing vision for my business. THEN… Covid hit. Business operations have been on pause ever since snd I’m overwhelmed with how to get it going again because norms have changed. Prayer is my only stability… and learning through programs such as this. Let’s stay strong together!

Mel this is by far the best episode of your podcast. I literally just had an ahh ha moment 😃💡 I always had those thoughts of (it's already done before or no one is gonna care about my perspective/idea) But the way Jamie explained purpose and how to make it work on the 22:30 mark of this episode is life changing. I'll be listening to this often whenever I need encouragement. There's a reason why your podcast is #2 and soon to be #1 on Apple podcasts. I wish you a very blessed day 🌟☕️

Hi Mel and Jamie! I’m 25:33 into the podcast and I can’t tell you how much both of you have inspired me. For so long, I struggled with depression, even though I have been in recovery for nearly 7 years. I’ve always wanted to share my struggles with the world via my KZbin channel but was worried about views/subs/money and therefore didn’t go all in. However, I am now 100% COMMITTED to going all in on how I overcame my depression so I can inspire millions of people who are just like me. Thank you so much for this gift!

I'm a 73-year-old guy who most likely won't be buying Jamie's cosmetics. That being said I find myself vividly recalling a moment when I was 15 or so when I announced to my mother that I believed I was special and that I had something special to do in life. Her reply changed my life forever because I accepted it rather than rejecting it - she said I had no business thinking I was any more special than anyone else. Ultimately I suspect I proved her right. Thanks for sharing your story. I wish I would have gone with the knowing rather than the no.

Mel First of all, I want to express my gratitude for your work. Amazing, fantastic work for people who need help. I belong to them. I listen to you every day. I know it's not about listening, it is about doing. And I am doing. And it's hard, really hard. You prepare us and talk openly about the difficulties that await us. And they appear-every day. But, step by step, day by day I continue. And it works. But I also need to hear you, I want to listen to you because you are my STRONG SUPPORT in my new life. It helps a lot. My English is not the best, sorry if something is written incorrectly. Thank you, big THANKS. Lubica (55) from Slovakia.

*QUESTION FOR JAMIE: How to get over the belief that great things can happen to others but not to me? It's like I have this block, I truly believe anyone can do it, achieve their dreams, be successful, find their purpose. But I don't believe it's possible for me... It seems you always believed in yourself, in your gut. But what if you don't have that belief?* Thank you so much!!!💖 What an AMAZING INSPIRING story. Thank you Jamie. It seems like these successful podcasters think everyone wants to be like them, that everyone’s dream is some kind of success and lots of money. That’s not really purpose and it’s misguided. If you're feeling unsure about your life purpose and dreams, remember that clarity comes through action. Start by exploring your passions and values, then set meaningful goals aligned with them. Stay focused on the steps you need to take to achieve those goals, and remember that setbacks and failures are part of the journey. Keep pushing forward, trust the process, and believe in yourself. You have the power to create a life filled with purpose and achievement.

I always say that, and I believe it's true regarding "Man's rejection is God's protection." I also feel that this applies to Jamie also. TRUST. Truly relying upon spiritual timing. I also feel that every rejection led you to QVC. That other company could have signed you that day, but your story isn't that story. QVC and those models, exactly how you did it, IS YOUR STORY. I don't believe it would have been the same story without exactly how it happened with QVC. Spiritual timing. It's not our timing. I have your book, but this was a huge gift. I love both of you fantastic women. Thank you both. 🥰🥰🥰 P.S. I also pray a lot. I listen from the stil small voice. I've found that as long as I keep negative energy, resentments, and other people's dreams out of my mind, body, and soul, I CAN HEAR!! The key for me to "hear" is to take care of myself on the spiritual, physical, and emotional levels EVERY DAY. 🙏🙏🙏

I have to agree with Jamie on her description of Mel. I met Mell in 2020 on her TV show, and when the cameras turned off, she was amazing. She answered everyone's questions, she took selfies, signed books, and let people record whatever they wanted record. She didn't disappoint me.

Another banger episode thank you so much Mel! @Jamie: Hi I'm Elena. I had the pleasure to attend at a video call with Mel by the start of last year. The short story is that Mel gave me the last push to leave my cleaning part-time job and to start traveling. About my backstory: both of my parents passed away (my dad in 2018 my mum in 2019), I left my work field, in which I've a bachelor in and started my own business. I'm basically burning my savings at the moment to create the life I want for myself, which is traveling, illustrating and being a creative free spirited person. Over the last weeks, I was desperately searching for "the problem" I can and want to take care of for others. A few days ago, I finally had the realization that what the people draws to me is (besides my story) "I don't know what I want" BUT "F**k it I'm doing it anyway". I got so concerned about this that I never even thought about my problem, being the problem of others and that I can be some sort of role model. I remember vividly how Mel asked me "What do you want?" and that I need to know my answer that she can help, which of course makes totally sense. Since I started acting on this pull inside myself, I've never felt that alive in a long time, I've made so many experiences already and I'm even making connections with "successful" people. On the other side, my tax consultant tells me that I'm not making enough money and I'm afraid that the tax office shuts down my business. Same as you Jamie I KNOW that I'm made for something bigger. As far as I know I'm going a completely new path by looking at my families history and I also haven't met a person yet, who's doing something like me. My question is: how do you observe the path, decisions and strategies of heroes (not mentors!) but stick with what is meant for you? I tend to get influenced by the input of people, who are successful in their niche but oftentimes end up with a suffering artist heart, because it's simply not the same. @Mel: I'll be traveling to Japan on March 7th for 3 months. Thank you so much for the push! 💛

Jaime’s journey is so incredible and inspiring! Heard her speak live on video at Tony Robbins Unshakeable 5 day workshop. Had watched her on QVC for years and was blown away to see what she’s become and how her faith has been a big part of that journey. 💛

Oh my goodness this was so profound for me and solidified my purpose even more. God truly puts people in our paths for many different reason and seasons and this is my season to go full steam ahead. Thank you both ladies I appreciate you and all the hardships you had to go through to get to this point so I could see this. Love you both so hard 💗

Mel your interview questions seemed to come from my brain to your mouth. You asked her all the things I was always curious about, really dissecting those key moments along her path to success. I use her amazing products and did not know this back story. Three years of rejection and she didn't give up!!! What a soul, what a heart, what a fantastic interview. The "No" to "Knowing" is gold. And as for purpose, I'm beginning to realize that when I have a good idea and think, "Hey, someone should create xyz," well, you have the idea because that "someone" is you. It's the universe saying, "here's the idea, for you, not for someone else, I'm giving it to YOU." I keep thinking someone should create a senior community that includes housing for students. The students would benefit from lower cost and the perspective offered by those older and wiser, and the older folks would have someone around to show them how to send an email or give them a hand with heavy lifting. After hearing this podcast, I want to explore this possibility more. I think the silo-ing of generations is tragic.

QUESTION FOR JAMIE… When finances are holding you back from your purpose and you’ve exhausted all avenues of funding through banks and credit cards but know you’re on the brink of achieving your vision… where do you go next? 💖

Yes. She had “no money,” but she had a partner who could keep working and providing for them. Some of us don’t have a husband/wife that financially supports our dream. Where to go next? I have friends who got their PhDs because they have a supportive partner. If you don’t? It’s hard. I can’t figure it out.

Start small if possible. I have sold everything I can that I don’t need. Cut our extra expenses. I drovefor Spark to make extra money. I listened to my gut that put ideas in my head for ways to make things work. Little side hustles. May sound weird but seriously keep open minded. Don’t give up. Speak out loud also that you are so blessed & lucky that everything works out for me. Look up Lucky Girl Syndrome. 💖

I just want to say THANK YOU to both of you for this amazing conversation, it really has encouraged me and taught me so much about listening to and trusting my gut. (As an aside, I would love to hear from someone who suffers/has suffered from cptsd and has difficulties interpreting those responses - you know, besides my regular therapist.) I really wanted to say thank you to Mel for taking the brief moment to state/explain your menopause drawbridge moment, as brain fog/temporary disconnection is a major issue that often makes it difficult for me to feel comfortable enough to make real connections with people. Thank you for your authenticity. Seeing an awesome person (who literally talks to other awesome people for a living) not become derailed by the same issue inspires much confidence.

QUESTION FOR JAIME: I absolutely adore you!!! You inspire me every day!! I’ve started a small company nearly 6 years ago, and I listen to your story frequently so that I can stay inspired. I’d love to know your thoughts on how to take it to the next level. We are doctors of physical therapy and we serve pregnant and postpartum women in the comfort of their own homes. We want women to have PT as a standard part of their obstetric care, yet most still wait until the are hurting or peeing their pants to work with us. Any marketing advice on how to make that change in how we communicate our message to the world??

I stumbled upon Mel’s KZbin videos during a challenging season of my life. Mel, the work you do and the things you talk about matter. And bringing your friend Jamie on this episode and hearing her share her story was beautiful. You are both beautiful for being so open and of service to others. Sometimes we hear things exactly when we need to, and I often feel that way when tuning in. This was a master class for sure and both of you incredible women have a clear purpose. Thank you for lifting up others and for showing many how to show themselves grace. It’s crazy how it’s the hardest thing to do for oneself, but one of the most important and necessary things to do for oneself in order to find our purpose and live authentically. Keep shining ladies 💕

Good Podcast, after the last one that's the next step I was thinking about. We all have to find our purpose! That's what I heard about succeeding in life, a million no's before the Yes, accept your past, learn from it and follow your gut, your instincts, your inner voice (could be God, it's quiet), follow your passion. Take rejection as protection, stick with people who support you. Helping others helps you. Trust your intuition, fulfill yourselves. Take the shot, don't let it slip away. Protect yourself, life's a journey, get good health coverage, believe that you can, keep moving forward, believe in your dreams, life's a purpose, we're all in it together, get out there and do it! Success and happiness is ahead. Be authentic, responsible and advocate, have faith and love yourself! That's my summary of this podcast. Have a great day & be your own best friend and best self. Keep going on and moving forward! Luv ya too...

QUESTION FOR JAMIE: First - thank you so much for this fantastic interview! Applause to you both! Q: How did you manage/get the courage to be so vulnerable on live television - paving the important way of authenticity and inclusive beauty standards? I am also wondering the same q. to Mel! Because you both share your stories so bravely in books/in interviews ect.! I hope I will ready to tell my story or at least more of it someday too. Did you think about how to share it while also doing it in a way where you honor your own boundaries too? I think it is scary to face potential judgement from people who dont understand or just are ..coldhearted. But authenticity is the the most important even if it might be scary. Any reflections or tips on this authenticity topic would be super! Thank you!❤ ✨☀
