Except that all relationships in his ideal society are subordinate to the state. You've missed the fact that the Republic rejects art, including a loathing of poets and how they and theatre challenge assumption and authority. So a larger inclusion of Plato's actual thought in the quote you've chosen is that love to him is ultimately something to be eliminated, and as such is why he's known as a Fascist. Platonic love is nothing but cold indifference for prioritising everything but love. He did not desire a loving society, and if love coukd heal the wound of the human condition, that it had to be kept at bay, so the state could insinuate itself in the place of love. No responsibly ethical approach to life or philosophy would recommend to anyone that they build their personal relationships around plato. You're sabotaging people.

Knowledge is an illness because it gives you ideas and those ideas makes you do bad things, eating or hunger is an illness because it makes you fight for food, being an introvert is an illness because it makes you anti-social and weird (for lack of a better word) and etc. Consequences doesn't make the action good or bad/illness or normal. Like think about it, I am assuming you don't have a partner/girlfriend/boyfriend but if you did would you actually die for them? Well you don't need to consider this scenario for a partner only but apply this to Friends or Family or pets or a job that you love, like you love them but would you seriously die or kill yourself for them? Or do "crazy things" (like you implied) for them? No obviously! Everybody says that but how many actually do it? Not so many actually but we like to think about it because it gives the impression that you care for them and that is why it's so prevalent in media, it is prevalent in movies as acts of honour. But in actuality...those things are pretty rare...

The advice that Plato gives is no doubt very helpful and useful. However, the notion of there being 'the one' seems more like a wishful fantasy than something real. Even the idea is based on mythology. In any case, it is important to ensure that you and your partner are compatible and you should definitely, under no circumstances, settle for a toxic partner. But you should also have realistic expectations of what real people are like and not have astronomically high standards.
@grammaticalrouge293 жыл бұрын
Sadly, there's a point none seems willing to touch about all this: _Not everyone has what it takes to become someone's soulmate._ Genetically, philosophically, abstractally... pick your point of view; it remains a fact not everyone has what it takes. Or even more sadly: If there _is_ someone out there for everyone, there's too the chance that one passed away before meeting with their second.

The whole point is that "the one" becomes "the one" only after you've changed and improved yourself, so that you may earn their love. "The one" is a concept, not a specific individual person. If you want to find love you should first aim to make yourself capable of loving and capable of being loved. It's not about physically finding a single individual person among the whole human population that is "destined" for you. It's about transforming yourself first. When you do that, you will see there is a huge number of potential people who could become your "one".

The idea of a soulmate is fanciful, idealistically romanticized and delusional. You only see what a partnership is made of when life gets very hard. Are you better together or better apart. And, at the end of the day you are responsible for your own happiness. The soulmate idea is a dangerous concept in that it claims you will be fulfilled once your other is found and this diminishes personal responsibility to your happiness.

Thanks for the great video. Just one thing, if we're referring to romantic love, even though at the "bottom of the ladder" physical attraction is necessary. It is not the most important thing, of course, but it is necessary, otherwise that love becomes simply a friendship and nothing more, and two people in a romantic relationship who are "just friends" don't really work well together since we do have basic needs for physical intimacy and connection that can't be glossed over.

And yet there is so much suffering in the world due to society's idea of what love "should" be like and the old destructive ideas most people have of having law get involved with love. Following conditioned beliefs that are not questioned by most and imply 'rules' can be harmful to our well being. Love is subjective and relative to each couple, the younger generations are realizing that and are drawing away from past distorted beliefs of love. One cannot read a book on how to love, for that is like reading a book on how to live (of course there are helpful external reasources such as books but)..your individual consciousness and experience will truly bring that to you as you progress onwards towards the unending journey of life.

"A soulmate should first be a friend, then a lover..." (7:24). Seems logical and that is a philosophy I have always adopted throughout my life. However,... girls, women do not agree with this train of thought. There have been times when I've been told: "I like but only as a friend" or "I don't want to ruin our friendship" and you know what? that's fine. It was not meant to be. I don't think that every time one is wooing a person, one is looking for their soulmate; but you never know when they show up. Your soulmate could be that person you didn't want to ruin your friendship with. I have seen friends of mine end up with persons who don't take them into consideration; they become second thoughts. Their choice. (7:24) has a nice philosophy, but part of 1/2 of humanity "doesn't want to ruin friendship". Never understood that.

I will take this with a grain of salt. How about people that are happy by themselves, alone, and they already feel at home? If you are happy, what more can another person bring to the table, that hapinness cannot grow much more because you are already happy. I am not against this school of thought, but again, realistically speaking, for me at least, a soulmate is not that wow. Or at least is very unlikely to find. I know i am the exception, because i do not seek love as a mandatory thing, where almost everyone else does.

This person although a different nationality but seems to be the most genuine person I ever met in my life. He is in committed relationship with child so I am not trying to form any relationship but wanted to know if there is soul connection with him from my past life? Somehow I am drawn to this person (he is good looking and fit but I have some across many good looking guys and I am not drawn to people who look good but with whom I can connect) I am just super worried that he might be my soul mates but I want him to be happy in his current relationship especially as it’s with a child! But I know there is a reason he came into my life immediately after my divorce!! And also after divorce, I decided I will wait for soulmate and won’t settle for anything else so after watching this video, I realised this person came into my life because I was looking for my soulmate but my soulmate is already committed 😂

Step 4: Understand your value in men's eyes and adjust your expectations accordingly. Be realistic. Men: Step 1: Accept the fact that there's no such thing as a soul mate. Step 2: Accept the fact that the majority of men will die alone. Step 3: Look in the mirror and recognize the person that can and most likely will value you for who you are instead of who you become is staring back at you. Step 4: shoot your shot a thousand times or until rejection becomes a part of your identity. Step 5: When you find a potential partner make sure you have half a dozen others at the same time because if you don't spin plates you won't end up with anyone. Step 6: Never cohabitate with a woman. I did meet my soulmate. and then he betrayed me? what's the point of meeting your soulmate if you're going to lose him - or he never felt what you did? don't get the point at all anymore
@sameena7132 жыл бұрын
Soulmates don’t betray each other. It’s obvious he’s not your soulmate. Sounds like you’re betraying yourself when you call this guy your soulmate. Put the energy back on yourself (forget about this guy) make your own life fulfilling and eventually you’ll meet a real soulmate. But it all starts with how you treat and feel about yourself.

I have a question. How do males and females bond with each other? I don't see how men and women can bond (especially romantically) with each other. Men and women think very differently from each other. Women can build incredible friendships and become very close to each other in a way men can't bond, and science shows that women can bond very well with each other. Generally, women are even more social than men are. After something bad happens, a woman quickly rushes to talk to all of her female friends to get support, whereas a man can isolate himself and grief alone. Women tend to be more emotional, more caring, more empathic, more compassionate, more affectionate, more loyal, more nurturing, more understanding, more sympathetic, more sensitive, more kind-hearted, more peaceful, more calmer, more gentle, more expressive, more intuitive, and more outward than men are, and thus bond more with other women in a special way that they can’t with men. Men, on the other hand, are not that emotional, and thus can’t bond with other men in a special way. Women are more comfortable being around with other women than they are with men. They have a type of bond that usually men with women won’t really have, or with men and men. Women feel a lot safer in general with other women than they do with men if either is alone with each other, and it is easier for women to trust other women more than it is to trust a man.

Although hearing about Plato it’s interesting, most of this is not about how to find your soulmate, but what to do to maintain the relationship. Our preferred a more accurate title.

If you feel you had a soulmate and that soulmate is going to a different soulmate. Would there still be another soulmate for me?

Soulmates don't go to other soulmates. You would meet eventually, no matter how hard you try to avoid it. But at that point, you need to have the eyes to see each other.
